China have contained this virus within China extremely well but that doesn't absolve them from blame for allowing the virus to start there in the first place and it has now spread to other countries where they don't have the resources that China has to contain the virus as well as they did.

There is talk that the Tokyo Olympics could be called off due to this virus, I'm wondering if this is China's way of getting revenge on Japan for the atrocities they inflicted on China during the WW2 era and not wanting the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony to outdo the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony which was spectacular but you just know the Japanese will take it to another level just to beat Beijing.

There's no love lost between China and Japan, they are traditional rivals, up there with Carlton v Richmond and St Kilda v Collingwood.

I am referring to the chinese compatriots here, who self quarantined before self quarantining became cool.

Definitely China created the virus in the lab and released it. Though killing many many Chinese is collateral damage, it may result in no tokyo olympics. End game.

South Park was on the money with the Chinese v Japanese rivalry.

There is no rove rost between those two countries.

Looking forward to their new Coronavirus episodes, guarantee it will involve the Orympics.

Wouldn't put it past them, there has been a lot of speculation the virus was started deliberately and it will probably peak worldwide at the same time the Tokyo Olympics are scheduled to be held in July/August.
There is speculation that St. Kilda was involved with the virus being started deliberately in China so it would peak at the same time the Shanghai match was scheduled to be held in held in May.

St kilda defn involved. But to ensure the afl season gets cancelled so the suns can’t rocket up the ladder and leave the saints languishing below them

I'm not blaming the general Chinese population for this virus but the Chinese govt are dodgy as hell so it wouldn't surprise me if they created this virus for whatever reason but then it got out of hand and entered the local population.

Everyone is praising the Chinese govt for their quick response to the virus outbreak but they were probably expecting it or were at least prepared for it.

The problem is no other countries govts were expecting it or are prepared for it, we can't all build specialised hospitals in a few days like China can.

North are well prepared, if we have to play AFL games behind closed doors with no spectators your players will feel right at home.

Where is the outrage at the toorak doctor?
Oh, there's plenty at the bottom of the article!

That's a pretty stupid comment given the Saints haven't been smashing any attendance records.

Just wait until we play finals again, the Saints army will be out in force, we're a sleeping giant like Richmond.

Flabbergasted….Good word that.

If its TLDR

Basically lots of sick people, maybe not enough doctors/nurses or ICU beds.
and young healthy people starting to get it now too.

‘Get ready’: Italian doctors warn Europe of coronavirus impact on hospitals

Italian doctors have warned medics across Europe to “get ready” for coronavirus in a letter revealing up to 10 per cent of all those infected with coronavirus need intensive care, with hospitals becoming overwhelmed.

They said Italian hospitals had seen “a very high” number of intensive care patients who were admitted “almost entirely” for severe lung failure caused by the virus and needing ventilators to help them breathe.

They added: “Increase your total ICU capacity. Identify early hospitals that can manage the initial surge in a safe way.
Get ready to prepare ICU areas where to cohort Covid-19 patients – in every hospital if necessary.”
The NHS will struggle to cope in the event of a sustained coronavirus outbreak where large numbers of patients require intensive care.
The UK’s chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty has said critical care units may struggle.

Latest figures show NHS intensive care units were running at around 80 per cent capacity at the start of March.

I wonder what Australias is ????

“It will be tough.
It’s going to be hard.
My worry is staffing.
If a lot of doctors and nurses become sick that will be the crunch.
If a third of staff are self-isolating that is the time when we stop being able to cope.”

If that happens we won’t have the capacity for patients who need urgent surgery for appendicitis, blood clots etc and that’s when patients will start getting worse care as a result. These are the people who will die unnecessarily.

In an alarming development, Dr Nattino said younger patients were being affected, saying the ages of patients ranged from 46 to 83 with only a small number having important underlying conditions.

He added: “The last days are showing a younger population involved as if the elderly and weaker part of the population crashed early and now younger patients, having exhausted their physiological reserves, come to overcrowded, overwhelmed hospitals with little resources left.”

“The inflammation in their lungs carries on for a long time.
Patients need strong drugs in high doses to maintain their blood pressure.
Kidney failure requiring a kidney machine is common and the patients later in their stay are starting to have blood tests showing liver damage.”
