It's not.

999 times out of 1000 if you hit a bail on the stumps it's going to fall off.

It's very very silly.
Do you understand what's being explained?

The "stumps" have to end at the bails' highest common point.

There's no other way it can possibly be done, unless you're working on fractions of millimetres eg passing over middle stump = not out because the bails are skinny at that point... passing above middle and off = out because the bails are chunkier there

Yep, it's so hard to bat on that our #10 and #11 just put on a 50+ run stand for the last wicket.

Do not mistake Bumrah's brilliance, and multiple batsmen (from both sides) throwing away their wickets, as implying that the pitch is in any way difficult. Any batsman who puts his head down and does the work will still be rewarded, and will be almost impossible to dislodge.

So....what does a deteriorating wicket look like? Asking for a friend.

It shows a whole lot more wear than that pitch did. Go and find some old videos of the days when Warnie was pitching it into the rough - roughs which just didn't exist on today's pitch.

Dude it was a joke. Clearly the pitch gave the bowlers a lot more to work with over the last two days. Which is a sign of a deteriorating wicket. Is it as bad as what it can be? no. It was the perfect 5 day wicket. As the match wore on the bowlers came into the match. Which is what you want. The reality is if the pitch was still resembling a road this would have petered out to a boring draw as Australia probably would have lodged a lead of near 400 and India would just be able to blunt the attack and paddle it around until play was called.

I got the impression it was closer to a "road" in the Pakistani tradition of flat pitches. That is, you can essentially bat slowly, defensively and unambitiously forever. But the moment you try anything attacking, the ball gets scuffed up and reverse swing is introduced to the mix.

There was erratic bounce for the whole match. For example, the ball that got Carey kept low, while the one that got Jadeja jumped alarmingly.

An official picture supplied by Head Curator Matt Page of the MCG pitch preparation.

I know there's been some debate about the fairness and authenticity of the pitch, but to my untrained eye this looks like all the standard preparation protocols have been followed...

He's doubling down on his stupid comments.

Gotta hand it to him, once he forms an opinion he sticks with it.... despite overwhelming evidence.

Got to love how India are playing victim on the third umpires decision to give the batter out despite no snicko evidence.

This to me is classic Indias victim mentality. The same bunch of sooks who give 10x more to opposition teams than they ever recieve, act like complete morons on the field, cry about every umpiring decision and now they are trying to blame a loss on being the victim yet again. Oh lord, its hard to respect India and Indian cricket when they do this.

Both Cummins and Bumrah said the pitch was flat

It clearly was.

The batting on both sides isn't great, and the bounce was actually incredibly consistent - there were barely a handful of balls that did anything unexpected.

In hindsight, it maybe wasn't a bad idea to have a bit of a road, as it's so incredibly rare to see sides take it into the fifth day anymore. You can't argue it wasn't a fantastic test, and being slightly frustrating at times added to that.

Sounds like they're salty. I don't see how snicko is more conclusive than a clear deviation where the ball could have only touched bat or glove as it wasn't near the forearm.

Snicko has caused problems throughout

So much so last Test? Captains were called together to say Snicko wasnt working and its defined as a change in the playing conditions

But that one from Jaiswal had more deviation than Murali

Better go to Specsavers if couldn't see a clear deviation!

Indeed it was, but had some variable bounce, including some deliveries that bounced more than expected.

Wasn't a road though & was a decent pitch that for once enabled us to enjoy a 5th day Test

Whilst it was all action for the Adelaide Test, would have liked it to have gone much longer.

Day 4 and 5 there was a bit of seam and swing, had that not happen then there wouldn't had been a result. Starc and Cummins bowled very well in the first session which caused India to struggle for run so they could only bat for a draw after the first session and usually that's when wickets will fall if the pitch isn't completely dead.

Gather we would need to fallover from here in the 5th Test & against Sri Lanka to fail meeting South Africa in the final...

These two sides have been barely getting out of the third day. India only played four batsmen, and two of them are cooked. And we played Marsh and Khawaja.

Good that it was a flat pitch - it helped it be a much better match.
