May depend on time left & how fresh the bowlers are.I wonder if we can, we will use the follow on
Maybe heal some old wounds
It helps that there are only 2 Tests, so they don't need to worry too much about fatiguing the bowlers ahead of a longer series.May depend on time left & how fresh the bowlers are.
Need to allow to losing some overs for rain.
Interesting comparison... Australia were 3-401 v Sri Lanka 3-30... so likely we are going to have a match winning lead after 1st innings.
And considering we are playing three spinners, the follow on makes sense as the load on a spinner is far less than a quick. It helps that there are only 2 Tests, so they don't need to worry too much about fatiguing the bowlers ahead of a longer series.
For a traditionally spin-heavy deck, Starc has a good record in SL. Made sense to have him as the sole quick.starc looking genuinely dangerous.
Still believe we should have played Boland over Murphy as the quicks are a point of difference... given we have 2 other part time off spinners in addition to Lyon.starc looking genuinely dangerous.
Yes, we can bat them out of the game even with a small stint. If we get them out by tea tonight I have no doubt we will bat. Pitch is going to deteriorate so best to give them the last 4 and a bit sessions
Reckon would he better against us after his double ton last time.Chandimal is a handy player, averages 43 in Tests.
Better average than all our spinners, which is why I wanted us to play 2 quicks. For a traditionally spin-heavy deck, Starc has a good record in SL. Made sense to have him as the sole quick.
Today's only Day 3. At Tea tonight there will still be 7 sessions left in the game.If we get them out by tea tonight I have no doubt we will bat. Pitch is going to deteriorate so best to give them the last 4 and a bit sessions
I don't think you can rely on the pitch in Sri Lanka giving enough help for Boland to be useful.Still believe we should have played Boland over Murphy as the quicks are a point of difference... given we have 2 other part time off spinners in addition to Lyon.
Also, should we have been playing Kuhnemann more to give Lyon a break in 5 test series?
With the return of Green, he should replace Labuschagne... giving us 4 main bowlers & 2 genuine allrounders as well as useful part timers.
Probably the most likely one and I can't see too many other suprises. So what team are we thinking about for the World Test Championship?
Would like to see something like...
1 Khawaja
2 Konstas
3 Smith
4 Green
5 Head
6 Webster
7 Carey
8 Cummins
9 Starc
10 Lyon
11 Boland / Hazelwood
The rain... which we have had every day, but earlier today... is making it more likely we will enforce the follow on.Today's only Day 3. At Tea tonight there will still be 7 sessions left in the game.
For multiple reasons. Firstly, it reduces the amount of playing time available, so we're not going to want to waste any time by batting for a 2nd time. Secondly, it allows our bowlers to rest, decreasing the fatigue factor (which is the main reason for not enforcing a follow-on).The rain... which we have had every day, but earlier today... is making it more likely we will enforce the follow on.
Tomorrow's forecast is for more rain, though Sunday expected to be better. For multiple reasons.
