It shouldn’t be written off as just hindsight the criticism the selectors & hierarchy should receive as it was ridiculous they went into another T20 World Cup with basically one change to the horrible 2022 World Cup team, basically they took the wrong message from the 2023 ODI World Cup win & convinced themselves they didn’t need to change anything. Even though a couple had good performances in the tournament there’s no way Warner, Wade, Stoinis & Agar should’ve made any Aussie squad post-2023. If you fight change eventually it bites you on the arse.

Players also looked like they got sucked into a bit of the England 2007 Caribbean World Cup booze cruise style on tour, also the older bodies struggled to back up game to game & from travel, also standards under Marsh’s captaincy can probably be compared to what happened when Andrew Flintoff took over the leadership for a period around that 2007 time too.

Jake Fraser-McGurk would have been handy...

Very happy to see Rashid having some success! Such genuine passion playing for his country, also didn't cop that bloke faking a hammy and gave him a strong word that isn't how we want to win.

Marsh is our captain and has experience winning these big tournaments, he deserved to play the tournament given his form over the last 2 years.
Smart decision for the selectors to leave our misfiring captain in the crucial #3 spot.

Ruthless as ever...

In hindsight he needed to be in the squad and playing.

Even selecting Steve Smith would be an improvement. I wouldn't have agreed, but there is a logic given the very tough and variable conditions.

Inglish and Green (whose T20 bona fides I still doubt) doing nothing all tournament was a waste of space.

He was an obvious selection. But his form and captaincy were poor. And managing his fitness turned out to be a massive disruption.

In the decisive match last night all bowlers except Hazlewood were getting smashed, but Australia used no other options except the default 5 because they were too scared to use a spin option (maybe correct). And the only other pace option refused to bowl himself.

Picked too old a side trying to give the old guard a send off and paid the price

He played a good knock against India, I really don't get what you're on about.

Poor fielding cost us 10-20 runs against Afghanistan and ultimately that game was decided by a small margin. Our fielding was sub par this tournament and cost us in the end; not our batting our bowling which was generally quite good throughout on some tricky pitches.

Better fielding this tournament and we are playing in the semis, it's that simple.

Community Note: Warner did not have a good tournament.
Clearly someone that did not watch the tournament too closely. Warner and Head generally got us off to good starts in the first 6 overs, the middle order (except for Stoinis early on) is where we faltered a bit.

178 runs (two 50s and important 39 off 16 vs England) at an average of 30 and SR of 139, only 2nd to Head for our team and just behind Salt, Buttler and Sharma.

Sorry. He did well against Oman.

Huh? 39 off 16 against England, 53 against Bangladesh in crap conditions.

Our poor fielding cost us a spot in the semi final, it’s that simple. I also thought Inglis should have played over Wade, but otherwise we went in with our best team.
