Paul Armstrong said that this kid is looking a million dollars after coming back from his break. He is very impressed by him. A big difference from this time last year.
I am stoked and hopefully this kid with hard work can realise his potential.
It was in local paper today as they are promoting Richmonds community camp in Echuca - which Connors is from.
I thought i would pass this info on as i know there are many supporters hoping this kid puts in a very solid preseason. So far he is on the right track.

Yeh i think we can expect to see alot more of Daniel Connors this year!

He is just too good of a talent to leave wallowing at VFL level.

If he plays early on,i'd expect a Rising star nomination for him and if he plays the whole year he could just about take it out.
Wonder what Trent would say to that ;)

Waiting to see the odds for the Rising Star award and will have a little bit on Connors taking out the award. Would like to see him take Raines spot in the backline for 08 and gain experience before a move to the midfield sometime in 09.

I will have a bit of money on the same thing RT but I cannot agree with the idea of playing him back.
He has an uncanny goal sense and has done so since he was playing under 12s in Echuca. It would be a real waste to not try and capitilise on something that is such a strength.
Have been told by a few locals up here that know him quite well that he has really grown up a lot in the last 12 months and that he now realises what is needed to succeed at AFL level.
They say that he has a real hunger that he did not have when he was drafted and his general attitude has improved dramatically.

I would like to see him start in the guts.

Danny Conners is a pure midfielder like Polo, Couglan and Foley. I don't think that he needs to start on the flanks like Raines, Jackson, Tambling, Deledio etc.

A bloke in my office was raving about Connors when we got him this year.
He does look good IMO and could be the real deal:thumbsu:

Lets hope he develops quickly so WE have an awesome midfield

Thats great news! We all saw the talent he has with the limited games he played this season.Hopefully he does the hard work this preseason and plays most of "08"!

The problem with that is fitness... It takes years to get the stamina to run hard enough and long enough to be be a midfielder. Play him on the flank/pocket/bench with the occasional 5 mins in the guts.

Connors is our next Paul Broderick.

Had a lot of time for Paul Broderick when he was at the Club but I doubt anyone really thought of him as an elite mid-fielder or AA. Shouldn't we be aiming much higher????

We desperately need some star quality to come through from all the kids the Club has brought in the last 3 yrs.

If Connors has a career similar to Broderick then fine he will be a fine servant ofthe Club but I hope he becomes a 300+ game superstar - the next Michael Voss, James Hird or heaven forbid Chri$ Crudd - before the groin of course - with a collection of Brownlows to match the Premiership medalions! :thumbsu:

Ok, don't get to ahead of yourself

Broderick not only was a premier midfielder but continues to be unsung by supporters who obviously didn't pay attention to the nuances of his game or didn't see enough of him in action.

He came to Richmond in his prime having, like his previous club Fitzroy, been surrounded by many mediocre players unable to read the play as well as he did.

The other premier midfielders in the AFL rated him. I know Craig Bradley and Anthony Stevens considered him our most damaging player for a while.

If Connors is half as good we'll be in good shape.

I agree!

My all time favorite player. How quickly we forget.

He was definetely Elite.

Yep, I've come crawling back with my tail between my legs (trying to ditch the newbie tag :)).

Paul Broderick was a very very good footballer - great skills, motor and courage. It's just hard to think of any of our players in those ordinary teams of his era as being elite - even Spud's false dawn finals campaign.

The same might be said of Foley or Delidio in 20yrs if the Club doesn't attain some success while they are part of the playing group.

The point I was really trying to make, and failed, was that as good a footballer as Broderick was, his physical attributes are not proto-typical for the modern game and I'm not sure how his skill set would transfer over to today's game. (I have my flame shield ready this time.) It has only been a few years but the game is very noticably different to when Broderick played.

If Connors ends up having as good and as long a career as Paul Broderick he will be a Tigerland star - no doubt. But shouldn't we be hoping for more in this early stage of his career?? We as supporters have no control on how good a player is or can be, but why shouldn't we be aiming higher in our expectations and willing our young talent on in the hope that we finally see the sustained success we have been craving for 25yrs.

We have Richo who is an out and out legend of the club and basically the face of the club to the rest of the league but how long has it been since we had out and out superstars at the club that regularly changed games off their own boot, were so good that they made kids want to barrack for the club....its been awhile...1980 is a long time ago, as if we all need reminding.

If it isn't Connors, I desperately hope it is any number of the kids that emerges to become an absolute, no arguments AFL superstar. And more than one please :)

brodders, now theres a whole thread on its own. a legend in my eyes. best creative handball i've ever seen which is why he was so respected in his day. His disposals were just so damaging!

but we digress...

I think Paul Armstrong would be refering to Connors new found attitude more than his training form cause he really hasnt done much but rehab so far this PS.

All bodes well whatever he meant anyway :thumbsu:

the same paul armstrong who declared browny fit and "cherry ripe" AFTER wallace had already told the media about his hot spot in the pre season

connors has a moon boot on so id hardly beleive he is burning up the track, the kid has more talent in his thumb than what most other have in their entire bodies but his fitness is for shit so dont expect too much imo

when he starts playing a full quarter at the burgers then i might get excited

apparently his fitness was coming along very well before he hurt his foot so hopefully it doesnt set him back too far

Finally a voice of reason in this thread.

Connors may well become a decent even great footballer but he's done absolutely SFA yet.

yes brodders was a champ. but he was slow. would not fit our game plan today. connors has pace which makes him a totally different player.

Got 25 possessions in his 2nd game, that's not SFA! One of Coburg's best players for the season too, so he's showing heaps for a 1st year player at pick 58.

Big deal benny.

Whilst Connor's has shown a little promise, he has played 4 games of AFL football. 4 games.

Remember Justin Plapp, Ben Hollands, Marty McGrath???
All looked like world beaters early.

Connors has a tonne of work ahead of him before he deserves some of the plaudits he's getting on here.
If he proves over a period of time that he's deserving of praise then blow his trumpet but FFS stop pulling his chain already.

Why is it that you continually laud some of our players before they have proven themselves consistently adept at anything????

It's embarrassing.

In saying that good luck to him. I hope he becomes a champ.

There is physical quickness and mental quickness, Brodders wasn't slow, quick hands and evasive, he didn't run sub 3 seconds, had the skill so he didn't need to. If connors can be Half the player brodders was in and under than I'll be happy.

Connors seems to be getting pumped up alot, maybe too much.... can he ever live up to some of our expectations?????

we have a lot of young players, lets let them develope with out too much expectation and pressure.
