Has he re-signed with Wet Toast yet?

A person on a bummer board reckons Wirra for Danny Jacobs is a done diddly done deal if they miss out on Nafan Brown (which looks likely)

Wirra hasn't resigned with the Eagles as yet.

The news in the west is that he'll stay with the Eagles, but with the Eagles delisting Troy Wilson earlier in the week, he could be traded for some tall timber up forward.

Word is that Wirrpunda is staying with us, but we'll never know till he signs on the dotted line.

If he did get traded, than Jacobs could be one fo the targets, but there'd have to be a draft pick sweetener in there for that one to go through....

Wirrpunda would be good for us. Obviously just a matter of whether or not Essendon has anything the weagles would want; I would imagine Jacobs straight up is not enough.

Supported Essendon as a kid, wanted to play for us, and has been reported as saying we are the only club he'll go to Victoria to play for.

Kickout ability a big plus.

Main concern would be proneness to get injured.

Wirrpunda is a required player i would have thought. he hasn't signed yet but has said that he would like to remain in WA

certainly we need him down back because we suffered without him in Adelaide.

Agree totally, Jacobs for him would be a sensational deal for us.
in reality we it would be Jacobs + midrange pick for him though.

The thought of Danny Jacobs down filling in some of our gaping KPP defensive holes did appeal to me for a while.

Then I watched last Saturday nights game and realised he's puss.

No thanks. Especially not for Wirra.

Few interesting points:

*It has been reported that the WCE have offered him substantially less than what he was asking for.
*Has stated that he wants to be a one club player.
*Is not that injury prone. I doubt he would have missed more than half a dozen games in last 3 seasons.
*Had an operation on his legs this season to fix a problem he's been carrying all his life, which greatly contributed to his early career injuries (apparently had to wait till a certain age to get operation done).
*Said earlier in the year that his body feels like that of a 30yr olds.

Dunno what relevance those points have to this thread, just thought I'd throw them in for those who are wondering about his availability and physical condition.

West Coast do need some tall forwards in a hurry i think. You can't have Matera as your vocal point.

We don't need forwards. We have a dearth of forward coming through to compliment our midfield. We need some defenders.

Up forward we have:
Phil Matera (28 years old in 2004)
David Haynes (23)
Ashley Sampi (20)
Brent Staker (20)
Andrew Embley (23)
Andrew McDougall (21)
Rowan Jones (26)
Travis Gaspar (23) - probably going to move into defence

and with the pinch hitting experience of Glen Jakovich (31)

with guys liek Mark Seaby (20), Paul Johnson (19/20), Kane Munro (21), Damien Adkins (23) still developing their games.

But down back we don't quite have near as much talent - particularly tall talent.

llosis

I wouldn't judge to much on Jacobs from just one match - he would definetaly sure up our defence much more as at the moment, we are relying on Glass - who will never be more than solid, Gaspar - who may not ever get to 50 games due to such constant injury problems, Carroll - the less said about him the better, and Lynch - yet to play an AFL game in defence, but has been allright in the WAFL down there.

IMO there's next to no certainty down there. The only certainty being Glass as a solid, but nothing more, at FB.

For those of you who obviously haven't watched enough Essendon games to make a fair assessment I can assure you Jacobs is a quality player.

He is a very good and reliable FB or CHB. He gets lost when not played on a key forward or when in the forward line himself.

Unfortunately for him he is is 3rd in line at Essendon behind Fletcher and Lucas who are both AA quality and you can't keep them all when you are desperate for a runner.

Biggest assets are his safe hands and ability to read the play. Can take a taller opponent no worries (ie murdered Tarrant on Anzac Day) but understandably struggles against the more powerful forwards like Lynch and Tredrea.

I would even say he'd be around the 10th best full back going around (at 23), would be a good get for Melbourne, WB, WC etc.

I'd be pleased if Wirrpunda came to play with Melbourne.

How about Pick #20 and Chris Lamb? I am throwing Lamb at every club atm! :p

How about your concession pick ?

The pick doesn't guarantee Melbourne anything, it merely offers the choice to pick the unproven kid of your choice. Wirrpunda brings guaranteed quality with 8yrs AFL experience at the young age of 24.

Anyone who thinks the potential to draft a star of the future is worth more than an already made star is seriously overrating the value of draft picks.

He also brings a **** load of injuries with him as well. I think the offer I have put up would be relatively fair. Lamb is still very young, former first round pick, would benefit your side, as would the pick.

Chris Lamb since debut in 1999 has played 21 games, I agree he is a talent and would love to have him at Carlton. West Coast have 11 players at 192 and taller that are developing nicely. I beleive Wirrpunda is still worth a first round draft pick ( pick 8 to 12). He Played 18 of 23 games in 2003, 21 of 23 in 2002, together with surgery that will be performed to rectify bone structure in his feet, he will only get better.

if we didnt already have 137 half back flankers to choose from.

I don't think I'd be willing to give up what the Eagles would be asking.

He scored 26 goals last year playing as a part time forward. If it wasn't for the quality of West Coast's midfield, and lack of skill in the backline, I imagine he would spend a fair bit of time on the wing.

If Daniel bloody Chick was worth pick 10, Wirrpunda is at least worth that!!

Big fan of this bloke and i reckon the Eagles would be slightly silly to part with him for anything less than a first round pick.

I agree with Carlos, West Coast departing with Wirrpunda with anything less than pick 10 and below is a travesty. But I hope he stays, he is an icon of the club and will bring in the young indiginous people out West for years to come to support the club. He must not be traded if it can be avoided at any cost!

We would most likely command a player plus a late 2nd rounder though.
