I haven’t read too many reviews so not sure what a common criticism is. It’s largely okay. Not as good as the first for me. If a common complaint is along the lines of “did we really need a sequel?” then that’s something I’d agree with, had that feeling throughout.
First half was a bit laborious for me. Significantly improved from there. Joaquin Phoenix is a powerhouse and knew he’d deliver again, that was never in doubt.
The leaked ending on the previous page is largely true aside from some minor details. So avoid that if you don’t want it spoiled.
One standout for me was that, whilst I don’t mind it being a musical (some great Joker moments have always been synonymous with music) the frequent nature of the musical numbers took me out of it for a while. Because it came at the expense of one of the great elements of the first film - the score of Hildur Guðnadóttir. That was a choice that didn’t land for me. And the best parts of this film were accompanied by the original score, and I wish there was more of that.
Hard to give it a rating, will need to ponder it a bit more.

I may watch it out of morbid interest. I like to see filmmakers take chances, swing for the fences, be interesting, so it may still hold my interest even if the film isn't great. Even better if it's an FU to people that misunderstood the point of the first film.

This turned into purely a money making exercise trying to live off the first ones success. It should never have been made once it was determined to play no part in any of the Batman movies or future DC. I think what has also hurt it was the stories that this isnt the real joker but the story of the person who inspired the real joker thats why Batman isnt involved etc. And then the musical aspect turned many fans off again.
Also I felt the marketing as well was quite misleading. The scenes of Joaquin Phoenix and Gaga dancing down the steps, that was heavily featured in trailers, posters and promotional material, isn’t actually in the film. I walked out thinking perhaps did I miss it, was it me, did I make a mistake etc. However, nope.

I havent seen the film yet but have read the spoilers. Not saying the trailer was misleading as it was my assumption but when I saw the trailer and combined with the title meaning shared delusion I though joker and harley where going to cause mass chaos but for them they would be dancing and singing there way through it but apparently that is not the case at all.
Yes I thought similar. One of their hallucinations perhaps. I am guessing here and won’t speculate too much as it will get into spoilers, however there’s quite likely an alternative ending that was written and filmed with respect to the culmination of the court case. Perhaps it’s a case of that footage was used in the trailers whilst the film was in post.
However it’s odd to see it displayed son prominently on the main movie posters at the cinema, as I left Village Cinemas last week I saw it and did a double take. I thought it was just me, however when I looked it up I wasn’t the only one puzzled by it.

Havent seen it and dont have much interest (i didnt rate the first one).
The only way i ever saw this working was for the musical numbers to be in their head while they either ****ed around in Arkham or were doing murderous and wild shit in the real world.
As it stands from what ive read neither of those things is true and i return to my "i cant see how this works" opinion.

Have refrained from posting another negative superhero/comic book post, nice to see someone else not rate the first one. lmao
The only reason the first one made a billion at the box office is that people thought they were watching the origin story of the Joker - the guy who fights Batman.
At the end, he was a fair way short of anything that would trouble any version of Batman (he was basically a mental defective who was obsessed with what everyone thought of him until the end) so it made some sense to take it further.
The second word caught on that it was a musical featuring Lady Gaga there were red flags. A straight sequel which took the story further made some sense but it sounded like a vanity project.
It’ll turn up on Netflix eventually so I’ll give it a go then. Hard to comprehend this big a fumble.

Yep Gunn is cooking. It’s very good so far. I like Frank Grillo in almost everything I’ve seen him in, good choice to get him into this one as Flagg Snr. He’ll also feature in Superman and Peacemaker as well.
