Review Dees v Lions: Good, Bad and Fugly

Would be interested to know how many corridor kicks we took on compared to say Collingwood or Geelong, not many. Defaulted to safe dump kicking as if it works and Max was still there. Then got beaten up when it became a ground ball contest. Brayshaws was our best of the night that went end to end for an easy goal.
I wouldn't even say it's an effective strat when Max is there, relied on it a lot at the backend of last year

Looked to me like the Lions got us under pressure and we defaulted to bad habbits when challenged, which is not ideal

Also no i was very frustrated watching the game last night, i'm not losing it though. Waking up meh yeah, but it's whatever. Hope we learn something out of it at least, and actually do something with it

I'm actually really glad we have the Swans next week. To see if we have improved our thinking and or gameplan. Because Swans are the side along with Collingwood who will rip us to pieces if we dish up the same c*** we have in the last dozen or more games. I've bet on the Swans tbh at those $2.57 odds, but I really hope we can show something next week that gives us some hope for this year.

We’re a good side with flaws at the end of the day. Those showed big time last night whilst last week we saw what they’ve been trying to do to counter them. Interested to see how we go next week, there will be plenty of internal pressure despite that late comeback which really counts for very little beyond EOY percentage. That was a 40 point Brisbane win by rights.

Going to duck out of the homicidal ravings in here. Many of them by the same posters who would say “yeah they’re just saving it for the pointy end” if this was Geelong, Sydney etc.

Long season, WIP, trust our first flag coach in 60 years - he’s earned some trust :thumbsu:

I wasn't watching closely enough but why did Goodwin persist with Harmes on Harris Andrews for so long? Just continuously set up their attacks with some easy marks.

Yes a good team that's 6-10 in it's last 16 games. Point to the runs of form that Sydney and Geelong had like that in the last 2 years.

We didn't see anything we tried to do to counter them , when the dogs were on top we reverted to type. We beat them cause they sucked, not because of some new game style

7-9 not 6-10. Closest thing Geelong had is going 7-7 end of 2021 into start of 2022.

Fagan's complaining about the unfair advantage we got 😂. Viney doesn't * up and we can win that game yet in Fagan's own words Brisbane had nothing to play for after the break
The lights going out is an advantage to one team but not the other?

Smashed in the clearances all night. So many times we were first to the ball and we’d fumble it between 2 of ourselves strait to a Brisbane player for a clean pickup and clearance.

Apparently game should have been cancelled because Brisbane had already done their hard work
Should call all Brisbane games off with 12 minutes to go and a decent lead to them when Fagan thinks they’ve already done enough hard work.

Would have been nice last year tbh, Dees would be undefeated!!!

Looking at Ports midfield and it's a real reminder how far off we are
Rozee, Butters, Powell Pepper, Boak, Wines, Horne Francis and then Georgiades, Dixon and Marshall forward with Rioli. Allir and Jonas behind the ball. On paper I'm struggling to see how we are clearly better than them for talent anyway.

Not arguing that, just correcting you on our record at the time. Agree Sydney or Geelong haven't really had a period this bad.
Yeah and to show how bad were going, we turned two 50 point pumpings of Brisbane in to two losses pretty quickly. Brisbane are the only top 8 side we beat in the 7-9 run and now we're losing to them as well

Fagan i must say has become more Scott like in post game whinges in recent years. We both had the same problem, it's not one advantage to one side (although i'm aware we've got nothing to lose for trying). If anything you should be grumpy your players came out half assed or you didn't mentally prepare them to get back into the contest. Not an AFL problem my guy

Not throwing the baby out with the bathwater yet. I was a disappointing loss but let's wait and see over the next few weeks whether it was an aberration or something to really be worried about.
One thing is for sure, we need to be prepared to cover Max for a significant period and Grundy clearly can't run out a full game.

Nothing to play for? They nearly lost the unloseable.

Stuff like that, ‘the cue in the rack’, is so silly it should be written on Bigfooty (it is…). Every team and coach is aware that percentage can and often does determine top 2, top 4 and top 8. Teams just don’t get out to a good lead and say you know? Lets just cruise it from now

That type of game makes you genuinely concerned if we can do anything this year. We didn't just get beaten we got absolutely flogged in everything. Under pressure and we reverted back to the worst type of footy possible. Gave up stoppage goals for fun, couldn't move the footy and made both our wingers and key forwards anonymous. Browns looking strangely sharp and yet don't think we kicked a single footy to him on a lead. Horrible that under the first sign of pressure we went to complete water and the new ball movement that we never even saw against the dogs anyway complete evaporated to boring as long down the line s**t. We've how played a half of s**t footy against the dogs and 3.5 of s**t against the lions. Oliver s**t start to the season, Langdon and Hunter been frozen out of games and our back 6 fallen apart without May and Petty deciding to disappear. Our key forwards have no ability to impose themselves in the air and our defence outside Lever can't mark the ball to halt momentum.
I know what you're saying and I felt that was straight after the game. This happened to the Lions last week and port today who both looked like millionaires last night and last week respectively.

I think this is the loss we needed to have and want to see how the team and coaches respond in the coming weeks, especially if Gawn is out for at minimum 5-6 weeks. 10-0 last year was more of a false economy than US housing market in 2007. We now have the rest of the season to work on the issues.
