Just to emphasise this point, 5 of Nix' 11 ints have come targeting Sutton. As you mentioned, one was while being triple teamed - and I don't think that's the only time, it's happened on a few.I agree the force feeding of Sutton is too much. On one of the INTs Sutton was surrounded by 3 defenders and shouldn't have attempted to pass the ball in there. Vele only got 1 look... Mims caught all 4 balls passed his way... Sutton, 3 from 9 targets, and many of those were double and triple team. Means there should be other receiver options elsewhere in man on man at the very least.
I hated the play calling in OT and for majority of the game. That game yesterday was nuts - we just didnt want to win it bad enough but then we get the moments where we do and its crazy
Couldn't agree more, Payton completely lost his balls after the Mims TD, should have gone for 2 there to win it and to top that mistake off went super safe in overtime. The coach gagged. Shameful.I hated the play calling in OT and for majority of the game.
In OT each drive was exactly the same and was a reflection on how most of the game was called.
Run up the middle - short gain
Quick screen - blown up for a loss
3rd and long
punt
He was put into 3rd and long situations by bland, predictable play calling. Granted on both 3rd downs Nix had a chance for completions and missed - 1 was poor, a regulation 10 yard crosser he just overthrew. His footwork needs work - basically just needs to stand in the pocket better as for no reason as he was about to throw he just started running to his right when he was throwing to his left - but he was put into a higher difficulty situation thanks to his HC/OC calling horrible plays.
Sometimes it feels like for most of the game Payton plays with the kids playbook filled with basic runs, screens and 2 receiver routes. Then out of nowhere the actual playbook comes out and we go right down field.
I get that he probably wants to be somewhat conservative with a rookie QB, but I feel like he's actually holding Bo back rather than helping him with that.
