Talk on Sunday was that Adam Contessa (ex. WB) and Simon Phillips (ex. Sydney) have already signed at the Farm

Couple of conceivable recruits there. D.Jacobs played junior footy with J.Lindsay at South Districts. Simon Phillips has his twin and younger brother already at the Farm. However, I was of the belief he was contracted for 2yrs with Norwood in the SANFL - next year being his 2nd? Given he had a solid 1st year (broken wing aside), one would suspect they wouldn't let him go easily....
As for Ezra Poyas, I'd expect him to take his new rug back to Ajax and help them get back out of C Grade in the Amateurs.

Cheltenham, if they want to become more than a joke, need to play blokes like sean rowe and butterfield in the 2's all year, and recruit some players that aren't scared of their own shadow.

Joke of a club hey gang! Ask SFL headquarters which club is the best run....on and iff the field, I wonder who they will say??
At our club (and most others in the SFL) we have a thing called loyalty (This is where people play more than 2 years at the club and do so for the love of the club). We dont exit them out as you do at yours and replace them with blokes that are on $1000, (especially when they still have plenty to give at senior level), just to gain short term success.
For the record, both Rowey (who has retired by the way due to work commitments) and Butts played some games in the twos this year and they were fantatrsic for the devlopment of our young players. When the time comes, we won't need to recruit players to replace them, we will promote kids that have played in our colts this year and give them a chance to play senior football at a good club. Something which you should look at doing if you want your club to be around in 5 years time.
If there was one area in which we were lacking this year it was that we didnt have enough outside runners (or blokes who jump at shadows, as you put it). We had plenty of inside midfielders but only a few blokes who can run and carry the ball, if you know of any can you please send them our wayI seem to recall it wasnt the Chelt blokes thatwere jumping at shadows when we played City both times this year.
Anyway, good luck with the spending spree, and I hope that it makes you feel good that you spent $160,000 this year to win as many trophys as Highett! Enjoy the off season
Thanks Freak, again you have proved your lack of knowledge around football circles. I hope u were one of those juniors who gained alot out of those 2 shadow boxers playing in the 2's next to you, because you really need the experience before you should form an opinion of football.
And if you watched the colts game on the weekend, you would know there was no talent on that ground and the whole colts experiment needs a very big shake up before it could produce a player that would come close to being a serviceable player let alone a good player.
How much $$$$ would you like to bet on the City vs Chelt game next year, or are you too p1ss weak to take the bet because we are too good for you pu$$ie$

Why does everything have to come back to $$$ with you blokes at the Farm. Havent you got the point already??
On the Colts game. One of the blokes playing rucked against Myles Quinn in the last H/A game and did OK and another played on Casset and held his own for big parts of the game. Not bad efforts if you ask me as both are only 17 and play for nothing compared with the $3000 that their opponents are on combined a game. Overall 5 of our Colts played senior football and another seven played in the reserves at time. It will hold our club in good stead and ensure the future stability of the club.
There were plenty of promising players for both sides on the weekend and when u wake up and smell the roses you will be better off. There are some good people at your club that realise this (like cuttingedge for one) but its the likes of you that bring the whole place down.
Finally if you wanna have a crack at someone about lacking footy knowledge make sure you pick the right target.......

Poyas played all his junior footy at East Brighton, so if anywhere, i'd expect him to go back there. Apart from the religion connection, he has no ties to Ajax.

No he isnt mate. He has played at Chelt for all but one year in senior footy (where he went to Noble with a few mates).
Get your fact straight. He played at Glen Eira in the Amateurs and when he asked for money and they wouldnt pay he went to Chelt.

Sorry Phantom you are correct. His first year out of juniors he played at Glen Eira. Leaving had nothing to do with money, he was at Sandy at the time and they wanted him to play in a higher league than C grade ammos so he came to Chelt where most of his school mates play.

Taranto is a friend of Dimackhi and asked for money at City before he went back to Chelt and was knocked back,
Also on StKilda City I saw Salim Hassan at the game he flew over to watch the club, great efort big rumor is he will be back next year after doing a knee this year,he would be a great addition, also Simon Phillips brother of Chris could head back to Melbourne to play with his brother at City he is currently at Norwood SANFL.
I realise the consensus is most people hate City but a better bunch of blokes you wouldnt meet, caught them for a beer last night at the Inkerman probably still 25 on the drink and they were pretty philosophical
about he loss and the feeling I get is they will be determined redeem themselves.

How and why would the league intervene? There's no " salary caps", or bylaws limiting the amount of paid players is there?
I agree that it makes it very hard for clubs with limited funds to compete with a club that "buys" quality players.
Most leagues seem to have one or two financial clubs that dominate only by buying players.
But, the "worm turns". What happens when that club loses its principal benefactors? Unless there is a solid core of strong sponsors, that will surely happen at some point in time. Relying on just a few sponsors/benefactors will ultimately lead to a fall.
I personally prefer what clubs like Chelt have done, with juniors and colts, feeding through to the firsts and seconds. Thats how to build a strong club, that will last and last, will generally be there, or thereabouts, on the ladder, and will provide genuine comradeship etc for its members, supporters and players.
But perhaps I am just old fashioned.

Seriously, you blokes are crazy - Danny Jacobs was at our club on Sunday and more than likely coach Port Colts, Simon Phillips is at Norwood,Salim might be moving back to Melb and had had a knee reco 8 weeks,neevr heard of contessa & we nearly had Poyas last year but stayed at Sandy/Ajax.
$$$ wise no one could afford to pay market value for those blokes, we are meeting next week to discuss our list and make some hard decisions on which way we go with certain players, at this stage about 17 from Sunday are coming back so we wont be looking for 2 many new players.
If this league is to get serious the players mentioned above are players this league needs to increase its profile and grow.

Maybe thats the problem down at Chelt mate coz ya dont get a flag being the SFL'S best behaved club, in fact i'm pretty sure it gets you sweet F$ck all. But keep at it maybe one day they can prove me wrong..

you're knowledge of football is extremely poor, i never said the colts was a bad idea, they are great for the future of clubs, and juniors are even better. what i said was there are no players in the colts grand final on the weekend that are any good, by you saying there was shows your not of a very well educated football background. hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion, its just that your opinions are not very valid.
