Too right, Daleks. I know I'm in the minority, but I always enjoyed Matt Smith's more manic approach to the role than David Tennant's approach. It is a shame, however, that Moffatt allowed the Amy Pond character to dominate.

Tennant (RTD) allowed Rose to dominate, and Smith (Moffatt) allowed Amy to dominate - both companions I now despise, however, both were very good to begin with. I miss the days of companions like Adric, Romana, Sarah Jane, Jo Grant, and even "Professor!" Ace, and who could forget Peri's bikini in Caves of Androzani. Back then, the show was purely aimed at the Doctor, with the added fun of the companions wondering off again, and that's what we need back. I really think Capaldi can restore some of the fun back to the show. I have high hopes!

We still have Moffatt as the show-runner, so I'm not overly optimistic.

I was so optimistic when he took over - some of his stories when RTD was in charge were awesome! Girl in the Fireplace is one of the best episodes in the new series, and same with An Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. We're yet to see him re-produce anything of that calibre.

I quietly hope we never see River Song ever again...

This!!!!

The "hello Sweety" crap was so effing cringe-worthy. Hope we never see her again......

Captain Jack Harkness on the other hand.... Bring him back!

We could have 'River' without it being 'River' as such. She is a Time Lord after all.

I just think..
Lem backwards is Mel
Mel...ody.....Pond?

As was pointed out on the Guardian TV blog review of Dr Who, "Tasha" is short for "Natasha", which apparently means "Born at Christmas" and "Lem" is "Mel" spelt backwards. River's first incarnation was called "Mel", and there were references to River Song in the dialogue about the splinter group of the Church trying to stop the Doctor. So no doubt Moffat is keen to bring River Song back in some form or another in the near future.

If she turns up and Capaldi immediately destroys her, he will instantly challenge Troughton for the title of my favourite Doctor.

Well, one of them at least, but not the first as she was born a white baby, and Mels was black.

Having just watched the replay this morning, I thought the episode was actually quite good right up until the final confrontation with the Daleks and the regeneration scene. But there were some serious flaws all the way through the episode, as a result of trying to jam too much into the episode.

Christmas specials always blow. That one was just way too busy. It tried too much, which is actually what I feared would happen in thr 50th anniversary episode (but the balance was abiut right there).

Smith's final scene was good, the Amelia/Amy touch not overblown, but the story got lost in the story.

I'm looking forward to Malcolm Tucker at the helm.

Who else found the message scene eery?

We all know his name isn't Dr Who even though that's the name of the show.. you never really hear that specific name being referenced outside kitschy in jokes..

it was haunting to hear "Doctor Who" being called out across all time and space o_O

It was "Doctor who?"

I quite like how they made Matt Smith up to look like William Hartnell when he got old. Not sure if it was a deliberate ploy but I liked it.

Liked the show too. Given the length of the shows you have to cut a few corners here and there to fit it all in.

Matt Smith did a great job in his time. He's moved into second place behind Colin Baker on my list, passing Peter Davison.
