Dogs Owned By Cats Yet Again - 94-66 Loss

not a good night for Bevo's pets, Hannan and McComb,

Bailey smith abysmal, his disposal is a significant problem, has been his whole career

Apart from the second half last week, Macrae has been pretty ordinary for a while now

And our ruckman doesnt have an ounce of leadership,

im comfortable with us having a down year, and no disgrace in losing to the cats, but the thought of watching intermittent insipid English performances for the next 7 or 8 years makes me sad and angry.

At the risk of saying the same thing Ive said after every loss this season.

This team just cannot handle the pressure when its opposition lifts their rating and doesn't allow them the ball. It also has no idea how to contain dynamic mids who are intent on getting the ball forward at all cost. The reality is our mids lack the brutal dynamism of the likes of Dangerfield when he's intent on imposing himself on a game and they get physically bullied out of games and this glaring issue puts our already shaky defence to the sword.

When this happens our structure all over the ground goes out of the window quicker than a Wall Street broker during the crash of 1929 and the end result is exactly the same. A horrifying, bloody and messy exposure for any passer by to see.

Its a good thing we wont see another decent side for the rest of the season. It'll leave us with a chance of eking our way into the finals and hopefully jettisoning some of the absolute dead wood or those that are completely lacking touch that just shouldn't be in this side. Im not going to bother joining in on the pile on and name them. We all know who they are.

There are some losses that are so bad they are existential crisis worthy.

This is one of them.

We were 19 points up in the 3rd quarter of a Grand Final 10 months ago and we’re looking good for our 3rd premiership.

10 minutes of the opposition waltzing the ball out of the centre cost us that chance. We could not halt the momentum, win a clearance or a second stoppage, and the goals piled on.

We were a few goals up tonight at half time against the best team in the league.

10 minutes of the opposition waltzing the ball out of the middle with ridiculous ease and the game is over.

I‘m genuinely at a loss. How was it allowed to happen in a GF, and 10 months later how was it allowed to happen again?

Is our midfield not as good as we - and the media - think it is?

Is it the coaching? Seriously - how the **** was it allowed to happen?

Geelong are very, very good - I think they’ll win the premiership.

But I just can’t get over how our midfield was brushed aside like that.

____

Only shoutouts tonight:

- Richards, seriously what a legend

- Jamarra

- Gardner, heroic, deserves heaps of kudos

But I’m still having an existential crisis.

I just don’t know how or why that 3rd quarter (tonight and GF) happened.

Someone tell me. Please.

Gardner was very good I thought. Under a massive amount of pressure and played well. I just don't get the hate on here from some. Baffling.
i agree he was good tonight, but the reason he is criticised was still evident, that backwards tap that resulted in a goal and that tap out of bounds that should have been a deliberate free, theres 4-8 of those types of things every week, so its hard to ever be completely sold on him or on his impact on a game.

Need to address English and his directionless tap work especially with our midfield and the 6 6 6 rule and after all these years and games his base performance should be better and stronger but its still borderline amateur and weak.
Since I can remember after a goal ball goes back to the middle and the best way stop momentum is to win the clearances and have it down your end.

All defenders make mistakes. All forwards make mistakes. Only Ryan Garner is never allowed to make one without being crucified. He was one of our best tonight....can't you give him that at least?

Just occasionally it would be nice for him to clog space inside the contest instead of backing out of it looking for a handball recieve. We need the additional defensive pressure badly in there

i agreed with that, he was good tonight and is the least of our problems at the moment, Hannan made him look like Royce Hart

I thought he was good and wouldn’t be close to the top of my list of complaints from this game but at the same time the point about him frequently doing weird or dumb stuff is valid, even if a bit harsh this week. There were others far more glaring tonight.

So sick of playing them down there. If we play them once, it’s almost always down there. And we always play them there if we play them twice. Yet other teams never have to play there. Sucks :(
They get a massive leg over having to mostly play the minnow clubs down in Cow Town.

Don’t really care if he is mobile and can run we have runners we need someone who can create space for Bont, Libba and co and to do that requires physicality.

Opposition put a couple of tags on in the centre and we have no response and the game turns on its head. we rarely have someone on the move like Dangerfield was all night. We arent well coached in there, and our ruckman is soft and passive
Forgive my ignorance, I’ve never played the game. On a centre bounce when it’s effectively 3 on 3, how does a ‘tag’ really work? All 3 players take their man. We have our strategy of who goes to the ball and who breaks, they have theirs.

I could understand a tag being the issue if Bont roves the ball and immediately has a man hanging off him…but how does a tag get you 3 blokes streaming out the centre square with the ball every centre bounce?

Sarcasm Alert 2

Watching the Cats in that third quarter run the ball out of the centre square straight into their forward line time and time again made me wish it had happened to us in the recent past so that our coaches and players could have seen it before and worked out ways to combat it. Just unlucky I guess.

You‘re not helping my existential crisis!

Didn't watch the game but cats are the top team now and to beat them at the cattery is a huge undertaking. They're the team most likely to win the flag this year.
Highly tempted to barrack for Melbourne if Geelong are in it…

We were on a hiding to nothing in this game, but the way we lost was pretty depressing.

Richards the only shining light.

Dangerfield was in vintage form and we had zero answers for him.

Especially Smith and English. Not much resilience in that pair. They are young and hopefully can learn to persevere, but right now they both need to harden the f*** up!
There was a moment in what I think was the 3rd when the game was spinning out of control. Where Smith literally tracked parallel to the ball waiting for Libba to hand it off to him. It didn't seem to matter to him that he was closer to the ball than Libba was. It was equal parts ****ing weird and infuriating.

I dont think its an exaggeration to say that it was probably the worst game we have ever seen from Smith.

Much the same could be said for Caleb Daniel's game. I get the reasoning for wanting his controlled kicking back in the side quickly. Especially given this was the backbone of our win last week. It was apparent from his very first winky kick-in, that his touch tonight was shakier than a 14 year old on his first date. It was a massive selection error to rush him back into the side. Hindsight is fantastic. If only Id had it before the game I would've said as much...

Dear Anthony Albanese

Please pass legislation limiting the ownership of the following:

- Rupert Murdoch media ownership

- Geelong Football Club ownership of Western Bulldogs Football Club

Both have gotten completely out of hand over the years and need urgent attention.
