Port lose: Pick 17.
Port gain: Pick 53, Ryder.

Essendon lose: Pick 53, Ryder.
Essendon gain: Pick 17, Pick 21.

Then trade Pick 53 to Hawthorn for Lowden? Surely he is not worth much more than that.
afl wont let you trade pick 17 for 53 as the 21 is a compo for ryder

The article said Essendon went to speak to the AFL on Monday and we went on Tuesday, it doesn't say who proposed it.

It's whoever the AFL says proposed it. It's their deal, they want this done before it bites them on the bum.

Obi Wan Cripps and HypnoRohde work their magic.

To use a Neil Craigism - what a great learning experience for new footy ops manager Chris Davies.

This is dodgy, but geez has their been a club that hasn't been the beneficiary of some bullshit afl endorsed draft concession over the years?

And these Essendon clowns, wanting to cut off their nose to spite their face. Take the deal campaigner's, it's as good as it gets!

Megadeal time!

Port gain: Daniel Gorringe, (Paddy Ryder)
Port lose: Pick 17, Ben Newton

GC gain: Allen Christensen, Essendon third rounder
GC lose: Pick 15, Daniel Gorringe

Geelong gain: Pick 15, Ben Newton, <club X second rounder>
Geelong lose: Allen Christensen, Geelong third rounder

Essendon gain: Pick 17, (pick 21)
Essendon lose: Elliot Kavanagh/Ben Howlett, Essendon third rounder, (Paddy Ryder)

<Club X> gain: Elliot Kavanagh/Ben Howlett, Geelong third rounder

I think the AFL have gotten involved because it's clear that Essendon aren't being reasonable, and the AFL doesn't need the publicity of Essendon dragging on another court case, especially considering that the AFL pushed for Essendon to wrap the ASADA stuff up (think it was Fitzpatrick who mentioned it a month or so ago).

The AFL has given Essendon a smack bang brilliant deal. In comparison to the Jolly trade (14 and 46), Essendon come out better than that! But Essendon, being Essendon (of course), think he's worth more than that. The way they speak about Ryder you'd think he'd just won the Brownlow.

Yeah and as soon as he's a Port player, they'll then be banging on about how shit he is.

Could offer Kavanagh?

Port don't want someone who will just clog up their list. We would rather give you 17 for nothing. It will have to involve a 3rd club, either Gold Coast or Hawthorn. I can actually see a few trades being win/win/win. Schoenmakers is on the outer at Hawthorn now that Frawley has gone there so we could work out a deal where we pay way overs with our 17 for Lowden, and Schoenmakers goes to Essendon for a 2nd or 3rd rounder. That way essentially everyone loses on that trade, but benefits from the other trade.

E.g Port get Lowden + Ryder for 17 = big win
Hawthorn get 17 and say 35ish for Schoenmakers and Lowden = big win
Essendon get 21 + Schoenmakers for Ryder and 35ish = okay

But then trades 21 for Giles (who is just about the only quality player that would go to Essendon I suspect) so effectively:

Essendon: In Schoenmakers + Giles
Out: Ryder + 35

That looks like a very good deal where everyone is ahead and Essendon gets 2 players who they know will not get suspended.

Port get: Ryder, Kavanagh
Port lose: Pick 17, (Could cost Stevenson his spot)

Essendon get: Pick 17, Pick 21
Essendon lose: Ryder, Kavanagh

AFL get: Shit swept under the carpet.
AFL lose: Pick 21 from out of their backside to Essendon.

Then trade our 2nd rounder for Gorringe.

/end Port trade period

Wait so we could get Ryder for free but only if we trade pick 17 to them for another player?
Kavanagh + Ryder for 17? Am I understanding this?

Or 17 plus at least one other club gets involved and player(s) and pick(s) are involded in a package deal.

Ummm... call me greedy, but I like option b better. You know, the one where Ryder severs his own contract because his previous employer used him as a lab rat, and we get Ryder, keep pick 17 and the SS Essendon gets the iceberg.

Why would we take one of their players, like Kavanagh, when it leaves three of our players at the mercy of ASADA sanctions and potentially unavailable for a large portion of the season? We would want to know what bans they are facing before swimming in that pond.

GC won't take our second rounder for Gorringe. That's why we'll probably have to be creative and help them get Christensen. Luckily Geelong have shown interest in a Port Adelaide fringe player.

Kavanagh is another Ben Jacobs. Not sure I want.
I'd rather factor in Gorringe in the deal or at worst Lowden.

If it lands us Ryder, I'm happy to take it and then delist him after a year if it doesn't work out. Bottom line is that this is all about getting Ryder to port. Even if it didn't work out with Kavanagh, we wouldn't have broken the bank for him or given up any other picks to get 17 through to the Bombers. It works out well for both parties.

Newton to Geelong, Christensen to Gold Coast, Gorringe to Port?
What picks would be thrown in and where?

Dont want Kavanagh anywhere near Port Adelaide to be honest. Im sure theres another player we could trade for.

It might come down to that if they don't take the deal. But the main prize is Ryder, and 17 for him even with a SC is fair enough. Tippett missed six months of footy in 2013 - if we get Monfries and Ryder to start their suspensions in the off-season, they'll only miss the first month of footy. Write them out a program to follow and things will be ok.

Getting juicier every day. We have everything happening from drug sagas to chest beating hysteria. The soap opera effect is at hand :) Should be interesting the outcome! The AFL stepping in is no real surprise.
