According to uncle, If he cant make his way to Port this season he will quit Essendon and go play in the WA country league for 12 months then join Port as a DFA

Using the word compensation instead of grant might be incorrect but it still is an extra pick given to them by the AFL and not their first round pick. Their first round pick exists but Essendon cannot use it.

FA compensation picks are not based around extra picks be they compensation picks, grants, picks that have been traded for or any other picks that may exist not based on finishing positions.
So in my non legal mind I do believe that the AFL could be talked into having a rethink about what pick to give the Bombers if they lose players via FA in 2014.

It is Port Adelaide or nothing for Ryder. He is not interested in playing elsewhere and there is no way he is going back to Essendon.

He will take his case to the grievance tribunal.

If he loses at the tribunal, I have been told that he will sit out the remaining 2 years of his contract. He is not happy with how Essendon are using every stalling tactic in the book to avoid getting this trade done.

Deciding to sit out 2 years is too extreme to believe. Ryder deciding to return to Essendon and see out his contract has a better chance. It may not be palatable and tennable but he'll be playing football at the top level.

The Bombers ****ed this up by publicly claiming they would only do it if they got over in a subsequent trade. This is not allowed by AFL rules.

Now we all know that was the gig and had they not publicly declared it it would have flown under the radar (just) like Deal Santo last year.

The Essendon PR people and their ludicrous public claims (I.e. we haven't spoken to Hartlett but we want him) are ruining any chance of a meaningful deal.

Edit: SANFL changed the rules for next year. No player aged 23+ can play as a non-contracted AFL player....I think...
