I hope the club makes a stand on this,as much as there is players on our list i don't like (Moore,Butcher)i would rather us keep them than send them to a club like Essendon.
A deal with a third club might be on the cards but the bottom line is nobody leaves Port to play for Essendon
heck em!

I don't think this trade is going to happen. Can't say I'm upset though if it doesn't, I'd rather not deal with this mob at the expense of one of our group. None of our guys deserve it and I think focusing our energy on Lowden and Gorrindge should be priority. Any last respect I had for Essendon has completely gone in the way they have handled this.
We just can't give up on Ryder. We desperately need the forward /ruck.
Personally I think we still need another key forward.I hope Shaw and Harvey can come up quickly.
Maybe even Butchy boy to finally hit his straps?

Port has a strong hand - either Essendon take a fair deal or Ryder walks as a de-listed free agent due to Essendon breaching his contract in 2012. Ryder would prefer not to use the clause, but you'd think he will if Essendon continue to behave unreasonably.

In the article (link below), a barrister suggests "Based on its very own admissions towards breaches of governance alone, It would be difficult for the club to argue it did not breach its duty of care to its players in 2012 when the likes of former chief executive Ian Robson resigned, stating the club had “let down our players and their families: how seriously we let them down is still a matter of investigation”.

I nominate this thread for the '2014 bat-shit crazy, mood-swing affected thread of the year'. Until last week I thought it would be a Butcher-related one but unbelievably as I post there's no Butch thread on the first 2 pages of options available to me.

The way he dominates at SANFL level is reproducible at AFL level though. He's not like a Gowans, Schell or Mitchell who uses a physical weapon that provides an advantage over 95% of opponents in the local league that is just dime-a-dozen at AFL level.

The Moore at local level isn't the same Moore at the highest level. He plays with a swaggering arrogance in the prisonbars that translates to gutrunning, a fearless attack on the footy, strong hands, neat skills, dangerous goalsense and a taste for tackling that borders on psychopathic.

In the chevrons he looks like a year 7 teachers' pet on the first day at a new high school. The knowledge and ability is there, but it's stunted by timidity and a general sense of being overwhelmed. That shot from 50 out straight in front in the Freo semi. That would've gone through post-high at Alberton Oval. Instead he never looked likely and predictably hooked it badly as he chose to kick the shit out of the Sherrin for extra distance he didn't actually need. On the flip, we saw a glimpse of what he can do when he accelerated out of the centre, looked up (an underrated commodity in concert with centresquare clearances) and drew his kick to hit Neade perfectly in Q4.

If he can string 20 games together without cracking a shoulder/collarbone and builds some confidence he will be an amazing asset to the team.

I wouldn't consider trading Moore. I have watched him closely for years and think he is underrated. He is a BIG bodied mid who can mark well and I think he subtly changed the momentum in both finals he played. He is due for a break out year and could become our Kennedy type player. How long have we wanted bigger bodies in the mid. But we must get Ryder too. He would be perfect for us and I would expect him to improve his game a lot under hinkley

Trade period hasn't even started and people have already given up the trade? That's funny. :D o_O

Pity we invested all that time in Ryder, made him career promises, secured his agreement to join Port then gave up because Essendon said pick 16 isn't enough before trading even begins.

Get a grip!

Ryder>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>daylight>>>>>>>>>>> Moore and if you seriously "watch" football you would no that . Give up in ryder what you ****ing high you wanna win a premiership so give up on the best ruck/forward swing man available to recruit lowden and be honest you only heard of him because of his debut and gorringe who is more injury prone then grimice. We need ryder we need to make a stand if a player needs to go and they want a return to victoria let that guy go. Or are we gonna give butch to he is 30 to kick a ball 20 meters with out dropping it like its a hot potato to become ryder like ? We need premierships not a crach for the footy impaired

Reading the tea leaves and various sources, it seems that NO player WANTS to leave, and hence are looking at a third club to assist. I like MY club's attitude to this as forcing a player out for Ryder could create player discontent and cause our overall performance to drop, despite having Ryder. Getting the deal done without dis affecting a player and the fact Ryder is coming over for less money he could get elsewhere will be the catalyst for success. Think about it.

We shouldn't give up on Ryder, or affect our culture/playing group in the process. Hinkley's stance is one I trust, and that we're working something out, despite the delusions of Essendon and their rabble. I too can't fathom how any of our boys would want to go there though.

How long do we have to put up with this again? The club has said that this will be drawn out, but I already want it done.

Doesn't matter what you or I or the bloke down the street wants. It will get done when it gets done. But Paddy Ryder will be a Port player.

Trade week doesnt start for another 2 days, give or take a bit. How exactly do you think a trade could be done already?

You wont last the offseason at this rate.
I suppose it is sometimes hard to convey a tone when writing. I know the pragmatics of the trade although I do not remember when trade period ends. Two weeks or so? Last year it was long and this year is shorter, but it seems trades start in round one and go all year. This has already gone for what a week, enjoyed the 126 pages of this thread, trade period had not even started. So I expressed an emotion that I wish it was over already. Yeah, I know, another two weeks, possible arbitration and he is a Power player.

And finally, at this rate, I an not even going to survive to draft day, although we may have picks 120 and 136 and be patient waiting for who we pick;)

I'm sure some will say how we got a steal if we swap 19 plus Wines and Wingard for him.

Well perhaps not quite that extreme. :D

was reading essendon board with previous trades of Jolly and Clark.

Jolly went to Collingwood as a 27 year old for pick 14+45. at that point in time he was a premiership ruckman and had come off a career best season averaging 31 hitouts and nearly a goal a game.

Clark went for pick 12. he was previous AA squad at 21. (could have been best 22) was 23yo at the time of trade and heading for a pay packet far greater than Ryder is coming over for.

pick 16 is enough. if it isn't add in our third rounder.

Haha, exactly.

It's just basic negotiation. The seller starts at their highest asking price (in this case, pick 16 + Wingard) and the buyer starts at their lowest offering price (pick 16) and in the end you meet somewhere in the middle. No need to panic, it'll get done.

Yes it will get done.
Ken said Port Adelaide did not go after Ryder who told Essendon he wanted out and then nominated Port Adelaide as the Club he wanted to go to. Port offered pick 16 which I think is fair and no way should a Port Player be put up as well to get the deal done.
Will be an interesting to see what happens :)

I really don't understand how they think. Chad is already an out and out superstar of the game. How in the hell did they think we would let them get thier filthy hands on him?

Would be the rough equivalent of us asking for Jarryd Roughead for Shaun at the end of '09.

There's the school of thought that says there's no chance of hearing 'yes' if you don't ask, but blimey. Even entertaining the giddy thought of acquiring Wingard in such a deal is beyond the realms of sanity.
