here's my latest squad:

b - Fisher, Scotland, Lockyer, Adcock, Malceski, Smith, Raines, [Petrenko, Suban]
c - Swan, Kornes, Boyd, Hasleby, Coughlan, Rich, [Davenport, Robinson]
r - Cox, McIntosh, [Currie, Pyke]
f - Pavlich, Deledio, Harvey, O'Keefe, Lucas, Higgins, Yarran, [Ballantyne, Gumbleton]

*uses every $ in the salary cap* :)

14 keepers if you include Adcock, Malceski, McIntosh.
with this system, i am questioning the value of owning both the Smith/Raines & Lucas/Higgins combos

Any thoughts appreciated........not sure on Rusling and Hentschel in the forwards?? Definitely not sold on Coughlan and Rich in the mids either...thx in advance

Backs
Goddard, Lockyer, Gram, Malceski, Houlihan, Raines, Hill.......Petrenko, Rance

Mids
Corey, Swan, Gibbs, Knights, Coughlan, Rich.......Robinson, Beams

Rucks
Cox, Fraser.....Currie, Sellar

Forwards
Pav, Deledio, Gia, Brennan, Riewoldt J, Rusling, Hentschel......Gumbleton, Grant

My team... It's obviously got a lot of the popular players, but in saying that, the reason they're popular is they represent ood value. 70% of my team has stayed the same as when I used the fanplanner well over a month ago.

Anyway...

Backs: Goddard, Bock, Cornes, Newman, Houlihan, Raines, Hill (Suban, Petrenko)

Mids: Corey, Swan, Kornes, Gibbs, Hasleby, Rich (Robinson, Swift)

Rucks: Cox, McIntosh (Orreal, Jacobs)

Fwd: Pavlich, Deledio, Richardson, Lucas, Higgins, Skipworth, Gumbleton (Walker, Ballantyne)

Premium
Potential keeper
Cash cow

Really struggling with the rucks... have gone for the standard Cox/HMac, but obviously there are doubts on HMac this year. Have gone with 2 rookies to save money.

Also unsure to have Haselby or not. If I don't, I'd either go to Coughlan (if he plays) or put Ziebell in the forwards and play Robinson in the mids (with Rich). This would free up a lot of cash to upgrade all over the field but would mean playing 4 rookie overall. Also uncertain about Bock... looking at Lockyear and Shaw also.

Thoughts?

(not owning) Nick Stevens hurt me more than any other player ilast year.

you've been warned.
Yeah good point... That's the reason I picked Hase in the first place, to be the Stevens of 09. And adding to that, I picked HMac to do a Simmonds of 09. I might just stick to my instinct and go with that.

Also, it looks like Bock may be a unique pick for 2009. I'm looking at either Bock, Lockyear or Shaw as my 4th premium defender, but can't decide. Anyone know why Bock hasn't got much of a mention this year? I noticed Rutten was out of last nights NAB cup match... this would no doubt affect Bock, but what happened to Rutten??

i'm definately favouring Lockyer because i think he'll play as a midfielder and he hasn't missed a game since his knee reco.
i don't like Bock. CHBs are not supposed to be DTers. durable. but overpriced. the bulk of his scoring comes from backline marks.
Shaw. i'm toying with him. like his durability, but gets tagged. i'm worried about those scores of 24, 36, etc wrecking his average and lowering his price mid-season. perhaps some work in the midfield (when he's not getting a touch) will eradicate these low scores.

Yeah, I am finding it hard to pick one out of Lockyer and Shaw as my fourth premium backman. I just don't see why lockyer will improve much from last year. I am pretty sure Shaw spent the summer working out how to break a tag. You can't forget the big scores that he gets. It is an extremely tough one.

I'm pretty sure everyone is having trouble trying to pick there last backman. I have gone Shaw, because I think he wont get the tag this season and will score alot. Lockyer defiently looks like he's in for his best year, so look out for them next week.

Who does everyone think is the safest back option at the 86k mark.
I want Hill, like desperatly, as I personally think he could be the Rhys Palmer/Garrick Ibbotson of the team.
My backline is safe and the only players that are under 300k are Raines and Houlihan.
If I downgrade Hill to an 86k player, this will give me about 60k more to let Brennan become more like a Deledio player and my team will be very strong.

Any thoughts?

keep hill even if he is on ur bench he will play a lot of games and make a lot of cash thus making him a nice cashcow. other options for backs are Rance who will play a little bit this year- watc his game against the pies this week to see how he goes and suban and broughton the other obvious ones. but yhe keep hill on the pine and leave brennen although persoanlly i would have fevola instead of him anyway as he looks set for another big year, espaccially with Carltons midfield one year older and judd coming back into full fitness. looms as a big year for the blues and fev is such a fwd magnet hes gonna be the go to man 2/3 times

What are peoples thought on Simon Goodwin. He is old but his body is still in good condition only missing a few games over the last 4-5 years.

put him on the list of "players that no one seems to be mentioning" :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

i'm favouring other players atm, but he's got a great classification.

Backs- C.Cornes, Hodge, Adcock, Malceski, Ellis, Nicoski, Hill (Suban, Petrenko)
Mids- Gablett, Kerr, Judd, Masten, Hasleby, Butler (Robinson, Rich)
Rucks- Cox, Leuenberger (Currie, Vickery)
Forwards- Pavlich, Deledio, Giansiracusa, Staker, Higgins, Lucas, Ziebell (Walker, Ballantyne)

Your thoughts?
Expecting big years from ellis, masten and leuenberger. Must keep an eye on the fitness of Hodge and Ellis and make sure they are 100% come round 1.

My 'have to have him' tip is nicoski. Racks up the points, got in to great form at the end of last season and has already starred vs collingwood (DT wise). At only 263k, he will pay handsomely.

Uh, why do I see people putting Ryan Houlihan in their team?

I can guarantee a couple of things if you have that man in your team:

A). You are stupid.
B). The chances of you finishing top 1000 are equal with the chances of the sun imploding in the next 10 minutes.

Actually, no. Disregard this post. The man is a superstar that will tear it up in '09 :thumbsu:

Backs: Fisher, Goddard, Mattner, Gram, Houlihan, Raines, Hill (Suban, Broughton)

Mids: Selwood, Tuck, Gibbs, Knights, Grigg, Rich (Robinson, Beams)

Rucks: Cox, Hille (Pyke, Jacobs)

Forwards: Deledio, Didak, Giansiracusa, Brennan, Higgins, Skipworth, Ziebell (Ballantyne, Grant)

No money left at all. Have gone with two rookie rucks on the bench, shouldnt need to touch that part of my team for the whole year you would think.

14 Keepers
2 Potential Keepers in Houlihan and Higgins
6 Upgrades

Not a whole lot of captain options but i dont think that matters to much

There aren't any. Keep Hill and Brennan. I think Brennan will average 90+ anyway.

beatlesmith, i reckon you need bigger guns than Judd & Kerr. those guys would have to have a Brownlow year just to ave 90+
my advice, downgrade Ablett -> Swan/Thompson/Kornes. upgrade Judd and Kerr.

Petrenko, but you would know more about him than me, so maybe he isn't that good.
I already have him atm, im thinking maybe Rance.

Cheers mate for that, but I really dont think I will be getting Fev. He had one good NAB Cup game and I had him last year and dont want to risk it again.
Thanks for that though :thumbsu:

I think we will play him up forward alot this year, and he wont be as consistant as usual.
I think he comes at a too heavy price.
