Tippet, Gray or Hall... Last Decision!

I'm leaning towards Hall at the moment after having gray since day one. The extra 40k could prove VERY handy :thumbsu:

Tippett is probably your safer option. Gray is injury prone and Bazza has a tendency to render his direct opponent lifeless and prone.

I'm wrestling with Gia and Boomer at the moment. Gia looks set for another good year but Boomer is probably a bit more durable and appears to have a bit more upside. Thoughts?

I can see it right now... Gray will not play round 1 and it will cause uproar on big footy. I've decided to go against Gray who I've had in my team from day one and put in Big Bad Bazza in. This will allow me to upgrade Ball to Watson who I see averaging 8-15ppg more than Luke.

I think that Gray is the most overrated player on Bigfooty. He is injury prone and his scoring potential is still rather unknown. I also don't think it will be too much of a stretch to see him get tagged sometime during the season if Boak and Salopek suffer their customary injuries. I doubt he has the capacity to be a fulltime midfielder at this stage and he probably doesn't have the most effective DT game. Also Rodan is apparantly recovering remarkably well from his knee so when he returns Gray will probably find himself in the forward line more. I do see the upside but way too much risk for me for someone priced at an average of 70. I wouldn't want him in my final team.

Thoughts on Mitch Duncan?? With Varcoe out injured for up to 5-7 weeks could this see Duncan play some matches early?

I hope so!

Can any Cats supporters shed some light on this?

I'd say Mitch Duncan has a good chance of debuting early and stringing a few games together due to injuries/limited pre-seasons to Corey, Rooke, Varcoe, Stokes, Gamble and Hogan.

Can he hold his position on their return? The odds probably aren't in his favour. But you never know, he's a likely type and some hot form could demand selection. The Cats also need to blood a few youngsters.

All of the forward rookie bench options are marginal best 22 this year. There's going to be a large amount of luck in picking the right ones up front. I'm preparing myself for some pre-round 3 alterations on the forward bench. :)

His JS is ordinary as you say. I like him as a player but the problem is you need a solid block of games for good cash generation.

The huge benefit he does bring is a base priced DP link to the mids.

Gray
  • He is injury prone

  • don't think it will be too much of a stretch to see him get tagged
  • doesn't have the most effective DT game.

Agree with all of the above Ball Hog, I'm not really feeling the love for Gray at the moment. There's definite upside, but the question is how much? Indications are that he'll play predominantly in the midfield with Hitchcock, Ebert and Motlop likely to play small forward positions, but that doesn't necessarily assure you of a huge increase in scoring, particularly if he gets tagged (which I think is likely).

I think he has got a good DT game and enormous upside. To me he looks like he has the makings of an elite midfielder. Hype from me here. BUT the injury risk is the concerm. That has me spooked. If not for that I'd have him in a flash as if he is fit I can see him getting to 90+ ppg.

Harvey and Ballantyne

OR

Murphy and Hall

Im struggling to find a 4th forward. already have gia, and want to get rid of harvey.

I dont rate higgins to score over what he avg. now, and fev wont be on his game early. ive got 102K left, should i got bigger (roo) or try and find a similar price to harvey and save the cash??

Get Roo!

He will have a massive year and easily finish in the top 3 forwards at the end of the year (baring injury of course). Could be no.1 even!!

Definatly go for Roo he is well an truly worth every cent you pay for him, plus I don't see the point in having that much cash in the bank. But if you want someone around same price as Harvey then go for Brennan, he has not shown much in the Nab cup but, he will be playing exclusivly in the midfield, so he may have a slow start to year but I would expect him to average 90-95.

Thoughts on Buddy? I know everyone thinks he is underpriced at the moment but it looks like the Hawks will be struggling early so im not so sure if he'll be flying early. The problem is if he does fire, he'll be probably overpriced later in the year.

Disclaimer: I have used the terms: underpriced, struggling and overpriced loosely here :)

I rate Higgines highly. Absolute gun player ready to become the 100 point premium forward. Averaged high 60's in the NAB after only a 55% TOG. And lets not forget a much more dominant WB side as well.

He would've average 95 last year if he wasn't cut down by injuries in two games.

I keep changing my mind re Higgins v Harvey.

Harvey:
- DT gun
- very durable (freak injury last year)
- consistently averaging 90-95 (priced lower)
- age is a negative but I don't see it affecting him much, he is 31 but I see him as a young 31 and never had any soft tissue problems in the past
- role, could he be playing a bit more forward this year? (not sure on this) and will the likes of anthony and ziebell get tagged before or after him?
- playing in a pretty young and inexperienced team that will struggle

Higgins:
- huge potential, could average 95+
- hasn't shown he can string too many games together to warrant the price tag
- pretty good pre season and playing in a very good team that scores highly
- read somewhere that he has had poor TOG in the nab cup, will this carry into the season?

People on here seem to be going cold on Harvey but I see Harvey as the safer bet with his history but on the other hand Higgins could become elite this year if he keeps on the field.

Peoples thoughts?
