currently our best center square setup is darcy, serong, brayshaw and young.
i believe this is an awesome future midfield. one good enough to win a premiership. i think the best comparison in terms of talent is the hawks midfield 2013-2015, west coast 2018 and perhaps dogs 2016 (bont was not yet peak bont)

however, it lacks dynamism. there is a reason, alastair clarkson's break glass in case of needed clearance midfield set up was burgoyne, mitchel and rioli.

the current candidates are switta, jackson, odriscoll, erasmus, henry?, stanley (i like him), frederick, johnson and chapman. out of these players who needs to develop into the needed player/s.

personally jackson stanley, serong and ?

It can't be Jackson if he playes ruck full time.
Played as a mid or the old style ruck rover , yes.
Young to me is the man. He is big and strong. Not afraid to take the game on.
He is still learning to play the mid role.
We certainly don't have the player like JHF from Port. He is dynamic, quick, and skilled in all facets of the game.

I’d say Young best compliments those three as well. Defensive accountability and the ability to work off his man and become a threat with the ball.
Stanley the explosive ball hunter and Serong in and under. Jackson doing Jackson things in the ruck brings a nice offensive/defensive balance 👌

I agree we lack a zip player from the contest.

Jackson's ability to burn off oppositions ruck creates that zip.

Fremantle has Brayshaw, Serong, Young, Johnson, and Erasmus are under 24.

In three years time, that unit will be entering their primes.

The big question is the wings.

Darcy will be playing ruck most of the time . Jackson won't be able to go get it for them unless he is mid.

Wouldnt mind Boak, Wines, Butters, Rozee and Horne Francis to be honest, especially the youngsters. Those three are amazing. anyway......back to reality.

Out of our blokes Johnson and Young should be able to provide the big bodies. What we need is pace and elite disposal from someone new. Wings can be Chapman or Clark or Brayshaw etc.

Id also experiment with Luke Ryan in a different position, I still think he would excel at half forward flank. I want to see some more thinking outside of the box, I dont care if the experiment fails. Just dont do the same thing repeatedly that we know doesnt work. Its time to put our best players on the ball and up forward instead of in the back line. Young to the centre was a good move but so many on here, including myself have been calling for it for a while now and we are always so reluctant to throw the magnets.

Jlo needs a more creative assistant to float some ideas past his conservative mind set.

The more I think of it, Brayshaw should start on a wing.

His best football is around the ground winning the grounded ball, linking up and running 1000km per game.

Fyfe, Brodie and O'Meara forgotten.....

Fyfe, Brodie and O'Meara forgotten.....

Brodie in there is a must, play him and Young and we look like a big midfield again.
Brodie dishing out Young has a very Fyfe to Mundy feel about it, once young is more comfortable and realises he has time to balance himself, his elite kicking will return.

Edit: chuck in Serong and we have our new Fyfe, Mundy, Neale replacement with Brodie, Young and Serong.

There’s a good chance there will never be a Nat Fyfe replacement. Brodie certainty isn’t that guy anyway.
It’s not a criticism because Fyfe is a genuine once in 50 years level player for any club.
Thousands and thousands of professional footballers have been listed on AFL clubs over the last 30 years.
I would confidently say Fyfe is in the top 5 players ever listed during that time. Possible even higher.
It could be 2100 before a Fremantle player reaches that level of individual performance again.

Agree, but in terms of the Fyfe type player, who can take the hit and still deliver to dish out, Brodie and Johnson are our only players with the size to do it, Johnson has pace and a better kick, so I feel is better suited to a mix of inside/outside game. Very happy for him to play the role 40% of the time while Brodie is on the bench. Just don’t think he’s ready to be smashed in the middle for 70% game time yet.
