Will probably be harder then you think Thommo, there has only ever been 3 sides that have been relegated from div. 2 & then were premiers the following year in division 3.
They were Bayswater in 2005, Doncaster in 1996 & Upper Ferntree Gully in 1979.

The gap between divisions 2 & 3 is probably the closest of any of the divisions.

Im not doubting that at all. After the last 2 season's, i think just making finals would be seen as a positive. Anything else would be a massive bonus. Definately have the group to acheive this though.

Agreed, Upper Gully will acquit themselves very well in 2nd Div in 2011.

I think Thommo will be suprised at the strength of 3rd Division. The money spent by clubs between the 2 Divisions is very similar, which plays a large part in the closeness of 2nd & 3rd. Better credentialed players continue to head to this Division each season, & given the off-field word of a few clubs this will continue in 2011.

New to the league and starting Vets for Nth Ringwood.
Seen there are 3 Vets teams can someone elaborate???
First of all, welcome to the league.

North Ringwood have juniors, colts (U/18), reserves, seniors & a Vets side (over 32). The colts/Reserves/Senior sides all play in division 3. Guessing that you looked at division 3 & only 3 sides have vets? which is true. The Vets only have one divison, so it has teams that have senior sides from all divisions.

There were 10 vets sides in 2010:
Bayswater
Boronia
Chirnside Park
Forest Hill
Kilsyth
Knox
Mooroolbark
North Ringwood
South Croydon
Wantirna South

Vets play a 9 round fixture. Basically they play every other team once. Games every fortnight.
Players are allowed to play reserves & vets on the same weekend. If you play seniors, your not allowed to play vets that weekend.

Hope that answers your question.

NORTH RINGWOOD FOOTBALL CLUB - 2011 NEW RECRUITS

Finished 3rd in Donvale's B & F after playing only 12 games. 27 year old strong bodied midfield with the ability and size to play key position if required. Will be playing assistant coach in 2011.

Nick Harbeck (Donvale). Finished 7th in Balwyn B & F in 2007 in its first year in the EFL. 4th in Donvale's B & F in 2010. 29 years old -Key positon (CHF/CHB) with a big engine and mobility.

Rory Harbeck (Donvale)- 23 year old with a strong body. Finished Runner Up in Donvale's B & F in 2010 and was named in their best 10 ten times. Midfield or half back with a penetrating kick.

James Candler (Croydon)- strong midfielder/half forward is a past captain of the club who returns after a stint with Croydon where he kicked 35 goals in the year they made the Div 1 Grand Final in 2009. Deadly finisher forward of centre.

Josh Barker (Croydon)- midfielder/ flanker. Has had an impressive pre-season and we would expect him to be a regular senior player in 2011 filling a number of roles.

James Ellison (Pennant Hills-NSW)- James come via the same club that bought us Shaun Jones. Plays in a similar manner to Jones. Strong body, hard at the footy and a nice left foot kick.

Daniel Robinson (Norwood)- moves down the road. Strong bodied, good user of the ball that has played senior footy at Norwood in Div 1.

It's time for Tigers to sharpen claws

MITCHAM has some work to do. The Tigers, for so long one of the EFL's power clubs, find themselves languishing in Division 3 and, on last year's evidence, not moving up in a hurry.

Mitcham was playing Division 1 football as recently as 2006, before it suffered the ignominy of the double-drop, landing in Division 3 for the 2008 season and having little success since.

Fortunately for the Tiger faithful, things are definitely looking up in 2011.

Key players, including Brad Jenkinson, Steve Kenny, Josh Hewitt and Patty Spendlove, have recovered from last year's season-ending injuries, while the club has been active in recruiting new talent to the club, as well as a familiar face in former-AFL player Simon Godfrey.

A wide open field

While Doncaster will start favourites in EFL Division 3 this year, there's no shortage of candidates in an even field. Today CONOR RYAN looks at the 'ins and outs'.

BORONIA
Coach: Peter Bennett
Last year: 8-10 (sixth)
Ins: Michael Boyer, Andrew La Marca, Dale Maxwell (VAFA), Patrick Garrity (The Basin), Rodney Church (Bayswater), Jason Heath (MPNFL), Ben Holland (Balwyn), Benjamin Hore (Ringwood), Terry Rogers (SAAFL), Matthew Smith (Vermont).
Outs: Daniel Bolton (YVMDFL), Shaun Jamieson (Ferntree Gully Eagles), James Jansen, Daniel Jenkin (MPNFL), Brock Kreymborg, Tristan Kreymborg (NFL), James Loonstra (Croydon), Marco Mollica (East Burwood), Lindsay Palmer (VFL & TAC CUP), Nathan Russo (Surrey Park).

Coach's comments: "Our goal doesn't change. We always want to get to Division 2, like anyone. Last year we had some holes in key positions; we think we've filled those. We'd expect a very successful year this year. Getting out of Division 3 is our goal."

CHIRNSIDE PARK
Coach: Brett Davidson (new)
Last year: 5-13 (ninth)
Ins: Callum Beattie (YVMDFL), Shaun Creed, Timothy Legg (Templestowe), Aaron Fenton, Sean Gibson, Michael Jones, Bradley Lees, Alan Love, Callen Winterburn (VAFA), Brett Hidgcock (South Belgrave), Mark Macdonald (NFL), Steven Ognjenovic, Adrian Piccioli (SFL), Jamie Sands (Bayswater).
Outs: Justin Hughes, Damian Noorman, Daniel Ryan, Bradley Waters (YVMDFL), Tyler Parker (North Ringwood), Kris Renkema (Norwood), David Tickner (Coldstream), Neil Trigwell (Silvan).

Coach's comments: "We need more wins than last year. We think we're good enough to finish mid-table and, if we win enough home games, that should put us in finals contention. We've kept everybody together and gained a few decent players so we think we might be able to push in to that final spot. It's a tough division."

COLDSTREAM
Coach: Sean Ellis
Last year: 11-7 (fifth)
Ins: Cameron Bell, Joshua Bell (Lilydale), John Bonanno (Silvan), Leigh Earl (Gippsland League), Jack Nathan, Chris Tones-Erickson (YVMDFL), David Tickner (Chirnside Park).
Outs: Tim Bakey, Pierce Carroll, Jamie Cruickshank, Stephen Cruickshank, Adam Mowat (Lilydale), Jordon Bowes (Boronia), Adam Driver, Nathan Sargent (YVMDFL), Daniel Gordon (Doncaster East).

Coach's comments: "Finals is the aim. We think we're in a better position this year than what we were this time last year. Not taking into account any other teams, we're pretty happy with where we're at."

DONCASTER
Coach: Adam Bester
Last year: 12-5-1 (runners-up)
Ins: Nathan Allen (SFL), Joel Carter (Golden Rivers Football League), Adam Coghlan (East Burwood), Dylan Dipierdomenico (Balwyn), Josh Gibbs (Doncaster East), Sam Maguire (Old Scholars Football Association), Owen Mcclean, Adam Watson (Donvale), Casey Ratcliffe (Alberton Football League), Dylan Tempany (Whitehorse Pioneers).
Outs: Ryan Bilalis (Blackburn)

Coach's comments: "First thing we want to do is win enough games to qualify for finals. We're just going about our business, same as last year, and doing the things I believe will make us a good team."

MITCHAM
Coach: Scott Homewood
Last year: 5-11-2 (seventh)
Ins: Steven Bickers (Mininera and District Football League), Michael Brine (Blackburn), David Caione (VFL & TAC CUP), Michael Romas (Vermont), Chris Cooper (YVMDFL), Mark Emmerson (Wantirna South), Anthony Faulkner, James Halstead-Wylde (Scoresby), Simon Godfrey (Norwood), Nick Higginson (Football Geelong), Sam Russell (Glen Waverley Hawks), James Saunders (Tallangatta & District Football League), James Whitchell (VAFA).
Outs: Ben Coutet (MPNFL), Frank Greco, Jonathon Kiklis (VAFA), Paul Nigro (Geelong and District Football League), Matthew Timms (Mininera and District Football League).

Coach's comments: "I expect us to be more consistent than last year. Last year we showed how well and how badly we can play. Our aim is to play football the way we want to play. We believe, if we do that, the results will look after themselves."

NORTH RINGWOOD
Coach: Brett Moyle
Last year: 14-4 (second)
Ins: Joshua Barker, Riley Brumby, James Candler (Croydon), James Ellison (Sydney AFL), Nicholas Harbeck, Rory Harbeck, Stuart Ross (Donvale), Mitchell Heckley, Daniel Robinson (Norwood), Tyler Parker (Chirnside Park), Kieren Rutley (Montrose), Daniel Wood (Scoresby).
Outs: Michael O'Dea (VAFA), Michael Parkes, Ayden Sukkel (Nunawading), Angelo Soldatos (Balwyn), Jake Stevenson (Norwood), Grant Sykes (SFL).

Coach's comments: "I'm pretty confident we'll be stronger than last year. I'd be disappointed if we didn't do better than last year. I don't want to say anything silly. I think we're contenders."

RINGWOOD
Coach: Nick Tennant (new)
Last year: 4-14 (relegated from Division 2)
Ins: Patrick Burmeister (Vermont), Stephen Copeland, Glen Petrie (Eastern Lions), Adam Fabris (VAFA).
Outs: Jorden Chenhall (Kilsyth), Benjamin Hore (Boronia), Nick Macklin (AFL Queensland), Benjamin Power (Lilydale), Alan Stride (Montrose).

Coach's comments: "We've pretty much kept the faith in the group from last year. They're a young group so, if we can build them up, we think that's the right way to go. I'd be confident this side would be a good second division side. For what that means in third division, I don't know. We've just got to wait and see."

TEMPLESTOWE
Coach: John Brown
Last year: 14-2 (Division 4 premiers)
Ins: Aaron Batsanis, Nicholas Batsanis (Warrandyte), Michael Cullum, Paul De Chellis, Scott Morrell (NFL), Rowan Hill (Horsham District Football League), Aaron Jones, Jeremy Millard (Football Geelong), Dane Kennedy (Vermont), Scott Timmins (Maryborough Castlemaine District Football League), Jordan Wise (VAFA).
Outs: Shaun Creed, Timothy Legg (Chirnside Park), Nicholas Wall (SFL).

Coach's comments: "We've had a terrific summer good training numbers and some new recruits. If form and fitness hold up, we'll be striving to play finals football. We're not there to make up the numbers, we're there to have a go at finals football."

WARRANDYTE
Coach: John O'Brien (new)
Last year: 12-6 (fourth)
Ins: Gareth Hitchman (NFL), Gareth Woodcock (Heathmont)
Outs: Ross Ansaldi (Lilydale), Aaron Batsanis, Nicholas Batsanis (Templestowe), Beau Biggs (NFL), Matthew Feben (NFL), Adam Tsapatsaris (NFL), Shane Biggs (VFL & TAC CUP), James Rudolph (VAFA), Hamish Hosking (Kilsyth), Cameron Vanflorestein (Croydon).

Coach's comments: "I think, considering the stuff that's happened over the course of the pre-season, all-in-all, things are okay. The guys have taken up the cause and we're training hard and trying to do the best we can. I think we'll be angling towards trying to play finals this year."

WHITEHORSE PIONEERS
Coach: Tony Vitacca
Last year: 5-12-1 (eighth)
Ins: Remy Barua, Jordan O'Keefe (Hampden Football Netball League), Dominic Finn (Ballarat Football League), Luke Henderson (East Burwood), Drew Howlett (Surrey Park), Kris Johnson (Blackburn), Faraz Khan (Balwyn), Xavier Kitch (VAFA), Christopher Ryan (Heathmont), Aaron Thomas (Heathcote District Football League), Caleb Webb (Glen Waverley Hawks).
Outs: Joshua Buxton (SFL), Jamie Carpenter (VAFA), Tom Gosling (AFL Central Australia), Dylan Tempany (Doncaster).

Coach's comments: "Our focus this year is to, definitely, improve. About seven of our new players will walk in to our seniors, plus we've got plenty of 18s coming through. I'm not saying we'll be top two, but we're definitely looking to push for finals."

Boronia 'full on' in chase for flag
BY ROY WARD
30 Mar, 2011 01:00 AM
IT'S finals or bust for Boronia as it begins its charge for the division 3 premiership against Chirnside Park at Tormore Reserve on Saturday.
The Hawks have recruited former AFL forwards Ben Holland (Melbourne) and Jason Heath (Collingwood) to complement their emerging midfield and defence.

Coach Peter Bennett said it was time for the Eastern Football League club to have a successful season and push deep into the finals.

"One of the things we have said as a club is that we need to play finals this season," he said.

Hawks take flight with Round 1 win

BORONIA'S big-name recruits helped fire the Hawks to a 37-point opening round win over Chirnside Park at home on Saturday as the EFL Divisions 3 and 4 seasons kicked-off this week.

New arrivals Jason Heath and Ben Holland provided big targets up forward for the Hawks, while Pat Garrity snagged three goals in his return to the club.

Boronia went in to half-time with a one-goal lead and blew the game open in the third, kicking 5.6 while keeping Chirnside scoreless.

EFL: Chirnside Park Panthers given plenty of lip in poor effort

CHIRNSIDE Park wants more performers and fewer passengers following its 37-point opening-round loss to Boronia at Tormore Reserve on Saturday.
The Panthers kept pace with the Hawks in the opening half before giving up all ball pressure in the third term as the home side kicked six goal to none taking a stranglehold on the contest. The Hawks won 17.12 (114) to 11.11 (77).

Panthers coach Brett Davidson said he could only count six players who performed throughout the match. "I reckon we had at least eight players who had just one good quarter and that is not good enough."

Warm welcome back

TEMPLESTOWE made a successful return to EFL Division 3 on Saturday when it defeated Warrandyte, by 20 points, at Templestowe Reserve.

The Dockers held a two-point lead at the final break before running over the top of the Bloods in the Round 1 contest.

It was a successful day for Templestowe, with the club unfurling its 2010 senior premiership flag and all three teams recording wins.

Templestowe coach John Brown said it had been an important day for the club.

"We really set ourselves for it. To get up and have a win was terrific for the club," he said.
