He’s certainly earned his most recent contract extension, and has brought the club back to the precipice of the title. There’s an understandable question mark over whether that’s as far as he can take Arsenal. It’s now prime time to deliver trophies within this period.

Was with some mates on the weekend (United, Spurs, Everton) and they reckon Arteta is running out of time. Me and the other Arsenal fella just rolled our eyes.

"He's won the same amount of trophies as Ten Hag in the same time" and rubbish like that. I tried to explain clearly we are on a much better trajectory but they weren't interesed in that.
Yeah for sure but I still think the next 2-3 years are key. He needs to break through to win big trophies IMO. Otherwise I guess it's all for nothing. But you've built a great squad so it's definitely possible. You probably need to take advantage of this season with City having a poor year. They never stay down for long and with Rodri back next season and no doubt they go into the transfer market, they will win the league next season you'd expect.

Say the league strips City of their last 5 titles for 130, I would assume they will be seen as null seasons but if they award those leagues to the teams who finished 2nd and that means Arsenal have back to back trophies the last two seasons while I doubt Arsenal will celebrate them as we didn't "win" them, they would be awarded, but would that change the opinion on Arteta?

Honestly didn't really see much to indicate that Lopetegui should continue after that performance.

We were just lucky to be playing Wolves, anyone else and we probably lose that match.

And not really sure what got into Lemina at the final whistle.

Hammers maybe fortunate. It shouldn't have been a corner for the first goal then maybe a foul before the 2nd. Wolves could have had two penalties. I thought Füllkrug might get a run.

Apparently Lemina refused to shake Bowen's hand then something was said that kicked it all off.

If City get stripped of titles, I dont think they will award the teams that finish 2nd the title. I think they just will just make that season null and void maybe.

It doesnt seem very rewarding to be handed a PL title years after the fact. Event though I think Liverpool would end up with two more if that were the case.

I can't think of the last time it happened in a top league except for Marseille in the early 90s, where the league classed no team as champions because 2nd place PSG refused accepting the title.

One thing I can't find is what the NRL did when Storm were stripped of their Premierships.

Would be a fair effort since we've not been charged with any offence since 2018 and we've won 5 titles since then.

There were no premiers in the NRL. Slightly different though as you can’t be sure the team the Storm beat in the GF would have beaten the team the Storm eliminated in the preliminary final etc. I’d still think the PL would strip titles and not declare a winner rather than opening that can of worms.

They still need to be found guilty yet though, and even then I’d think it would come down to which charges those were, with it needing to be the most serious ones.

So just stripped of 4 league titles, 4 league cups and 2 FA cups?
If it makes you happy to believe that's going to happen, then good luck to you.

Pro hint, I think you just awarded us an extra title too, cheers for that. So kind.

If some of the charges are to do with dodgy player movement which landed you players who have playing for you and helped you win titles after 2018 then surely those titles and trophies will be compromised also.

Good luck with your theory.

The sanctions are for 2009-2018.

I was pointing out that City won a few trophies in the timeframe of the alleged offences. Most of the charges relate to 2009-10 to 2017-18. But there are also 35 charges of failure to co-operate with Premier League investigations Dec 2018 and Feb 2023.

I don't think that there will a retrospective punishment to strip titles. Or a relegation applied. I can see a massive fine and an unprecedented points deduction at the start of next season.

Jacob Steinberg just said we're delaying the inevitable with Lopetegui and I have to agree with him.

It's all because Sullivan doesn't want to payout his whole backroom staff ultimately.

Wouldn’t say he’s running out of time but you’d hope he can snag Arsenal a PL trophy soon, feels like the gunners have fallen away a tad this season compared to the last 2.
Manchester Utd had down seasons under Ferguson, Liverpool had them under Klopp. Guardiola has set an impossible bar for consistency. Just cause arsenal may be down slightly this year it means nothing for next year or the future.

If we were to be found guilty and get a points deduction (or any other significant punishment) we would undoubtedly appeal and everyone can play guessing games for another year.

Core of Arsenals squad is quite young, will likely move on from Jesus/Zinchenko/one of Partey or Jorginho, meaning the areas of weakness (striker, LB, L8) might be massively improved upon.

I don't know any Arsenal fans worried about the next few years because we have good players coming through Hale End, and still good at identifying young talent.

We just for some weird reason refuse to buy an effective striker and a L8, and all our LBs end up injured.

Pretty sad Partey hasn't been punted already. Results before morals.

Artetas been obsessed with having the strongest defence in the league, I'm guessing he's done buying in that area of the pitch with big outlays so now you can strengthen forward. Think Arsenal go to Newcastle and offer 80m for Bruno. Someone who can play the 8 but also cover for Odegaard as well and then it's a scary midfield.

A genuine class wide forward I believe Arsenal will pursue ahead of a CF, someone proven and versatile such as Isak would be the game changer for me.

Arsenal need a proper CF, Havertz isn't the answer.
Havertz is great in a lot of games, but we need someone clinical. Jesus had about 4 really good chances today and a more clinical striker puts away 2 of them.

Havertz isn't going to score 20 goals a season but right now he has 3g0a in 6 games in the CL, 5g2a in the league. But he wins duels, and his runs open up channels for other players. If we had a decent L8 and LW his assist numbers would be higher because thats the role he should be working in and his indirect goal contributions would be better too.

I keep seeing us linked to Isak who I do rate as a striker but that injury record is a big concern.
