I don't have an issue with Sunday games (except for the twilight ones). Not enough Saturday games though and two interstate trips to Subiaco late in the season.

Overall not as good as the 2008 fixture but it isn't too bad.

Again we play Sydney once and its at the SCG, long time since we have played them here, prob RD1 2006 was the last time, bit unfair really !! Overall not a bad draft, too many sun games, something were not use to as Essendon supporters !!

Essendon managing director Peter Jackson has described the 2009 fixture as “fine from a football point of view and fantastic from a supporters’ point of view.” The AFL today released the 2009 fixture with Essendon’s season kicking off with an away clash against Port Adelaide at AAMI stadium on Sunday, March 29 at 2:40pm.
The Bombers play their first home game on Sunday, April 5 against Fremantle at the Dome at 1:10pm.
The Round 5, ANZAC Day clash with Collingwood will be played on Saturday, April 25 at 2:10pm and the Round 9, Dreamtime at the G clash with Richmond is on Saturday, May 23 at 7:40pm.

Mr Jackson, said the draw was exciting for Bomber fans.
“We play the top four sides from this year at the Dome and we’ve got Carlton, Collingwood and Richmond twice at the MCG,” he said.
“Victorian teams are rebounding, they finished in the top four sides last year and Carlton is on the way up, Richmond is on the way up, Collingwood is up there and we like to think we are improving so Victorian football is back.
“We play Hawthorn twice which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the 1984 Premiership and then back-to-back with 1985 so we are going to build up that rivalry and it will be a great test for us to play Hawthorn twice.
“I think it’s fantastic for Essendon supporters and opposition supporters to have those sorts of games.”
Mr Jackson welcomed the interstate clash with Brisbane at the Gabba in Round 6 on Saturday, May 2 at 7:10pm saying it is the first time the Bombers have played in Brisbane since Round 2, 2006.
“The Brisbane Bombers are one of our biggest supporter groups so to be back there is fantastic as well,” he said.
Don't forget, you can join Essendon now by calling the club membership line (9230 0390) or by coming in to Windy Hill.
Website applications will be available at the end of the month.

Key 2009 fixture points:

  • Essendon play three of the 2008 top eight sides twice (Hawthorn, Collingwood, St Kilda).
  • There are no five day breaks.
  • The Bombers play interstate five times.
  • Essendon has three homes games in the first nine rounds.
  • There are five Friday night games and seven Saturday games (this includes four Saturday night games and three Saturday afternoon games finishing with Hawthorn in Round 22 at the MCG).
The 2009 fixture has many blockbuster games against old rivals

I just highlighted the teams we had beaten in 2008. We look set for an up and down year.

I honestly dont care who we play and where we play them.
We get 11 home games 6 away and 5 interstate,
If were good enough to win enough games then we deserve to play finals.

Best I could do lol. I put in the station that was airing the games. Big stretch of FOX at the end of the season

Not a great draw, you could probably only rate that a 5 out of 10.

VERY predictable that we'd cop late season trips to Subiaco and as usual the last part of the season barely sees us on FTA.

Hate how we've got 10 sunday games and although I'm happy with 5 friday night games, three in a row isn't so good.

With 2 trips to Subiaco within a month our last 5 matches may only yield 1 win.

Barely ever get to play Sydney here...what's the deal?

On the plus side, I think we've got a reasonable chance of being 4-2 after 6 rounds.
We get to play Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond twice which will be a good indicator of where we're at.

Would have liked 2 games against Melbourne though!

Overall, it's a tough draw and we've been done no favours. If we make the finals, it means we're doing very well and haven't made it by default.

The fact that there are no 5 day breaks is a big win for us; we need all the recovery time available with our young blokes.

18 games in Melbourne would've been nice, and it would've been preferable not to have to go to Subiaco twice in August, but that's what happens sometimes.

Why Brisbane at the MCG??

Good to see we have to Friday night games against carl and coll. Should be good.

Going to be seriously thinking about foxtel very soon.

I'll have to go to a pub to watch the away games against Sydney, West Coast and Fremantle but apart from that I don't really have any negatives to say. I've never been a match day member so I can't really comment on which timeslots I like and dislike :p

Anyone notice both of our Victorian twilight games are against St Kilda :p

3 in a row, and 4 in 5 weeks.

On a positive note we can really only get better draws then this and in a couple of seasons when **touch wood** we are contenders again the draw will be a help.
