Have to feel for Jack Doohan, every week seems like a new article pops up that he is basically out of the team in 6 weeks regardless of how he does.

Fair enough if colapinto showed something substantial last year but for mine he showed himself to be binning it every week trying to push for a race seat he will be a complete flop when the pressure is on of that you can be certain.

Alpine just have NFI.how to run a team it seems.

He was quick out of the box, good results early but yeah he binned it.

I personally think hes got more outright speed than Jack

Quick when he was just driving for fun with 0% chance of a seat full time at Williams, fell apart when the pressure came to back that up when others showed interest.

Not so sure about the more raw speed Doohan's junior career is better

I think its pretty clear the raw speed is there, the advantage is that Jack appears at least, to be a better racing brain.

In comparable machinery jack was quicker which is why it to me is debatable who has more raw.speed only way Doohan isn't quicker is if his style doesn't match the current F1 cars.

We'll see.

I hope Jack does well and keeps his seat for the year and beyond, but they wouldn't have signed Colapinto if they were 100% convinced.

People are all trying to pin this on Briatore, but it's worth noting their CEO ran Hitech in junior formula, he knows the game.

It's all $$$ the payout to get colapinto will be less than the sponsor $$$ but for that they have to get him in a seat.

They are essentially forcing Doohan to fail to save cash, Briatore is 100% to blame he is penny pinching everything,

That's tinfoil hat stuff really.

They don't want him to fail, or they'd never have put him in the car in the first place.

It is all about money. Colapinto brings in more sponsorship money than Jack.
There's absolutely that factor.

If you've got 2 guys with similar talent levels (IMO), you're gonna take the guy with the money.

No one would've batted an eyelid if they went with Colapinto first up, but the way they ended up doing it had made them look stupid.

This is Alpine we're talking about. The team that managed to lose Fernando Alonso and Oscar Piastri in a matter of days, and somehow took their car from fourth best to worst on the grid.

No tinfoil hat involved, colapinto was a random mid table f2 driver when they signed doohan not a realistic option for the seat. Can you imagine the PR disaster if they overlooked their own rookie who has p2/p3 results in f3/f2 for a guy thats been p5-10 in those series especially after the stuff with Piastri.

They are looking at cost cutting so a cheap hire of a rookie is the best bet until we get an essentially paid driver option come into the frame, couple of semi decent results in the fill in role elevated colapinto to that, they clearly don't think doohan is going to be a world beater or they dont pay out williams for colapinto but now they have its a 99.99% certainty they will do all they can to have him replaced.

Colapinto finished 4th in his 2nd season of F3 and was 6th in the F2 standings before he was put in the Williams.

Not Oscar Piastri I grant you, but hardly "mid-table"

If Jack wasn't an Aussie I'm not sure anyone would really give 2 shits

Jack finished p2 in his 2nd season in f3 and 6th/3rd in F2.

Colapinto 58 starts - 0 Wins - 5 Reverse grid wins
Doohan 79 starts - 7 Wins - 3 Reverse grid wins

Doohan is no star but comparing the pair its clear who has been the stronger junior, if colapinto had so much raw speed he wouldn't have a donut next to his name in feature races across 3 seasons in equal machinery

Mate, just stop. Colapinto has won a junior category championship, Jack hasn't.

It's not doing you any favours.

Regardless of that, there isn't a huge difference between the 2.

We only care because he's an Aussie.

Yeah welcome to ignore if you want to act like a flog
I'm just pointing out obvioua flaws in your arguments.

Look, I don't want to see Jack get booted after a few races. He's work hard to get to where he is and deserves a chance to show his potential. All I'm saying is that the gap between Colapinto and Jack isn't very big at all.

And as we've seen in F1 for a very long time, if you've got 2 guys close to equal in talent, youre gonna take the guy with more cash every time.

This just tells me you didn't understand the point I was making, you were trying to tell me colapinto has more speed when their records suggest the opposite but just to be clear im not suggesting doohan is a superstar.

Doohan is mid, actrually laughable you were trying to argue colapinto isn't when his record is worse.

You remain on ignore, got no time for anyone pulling on 10 yr old lines like "mate just stop its not doing you any favours" No time for childish measuring contests.
