Hi Hawkers,

The 2015 AFL Prospectus is great reading this year, I've pulled out a few gems to share and added a couple of other stats that might be of interest to fans of the back to back Premiership team.

1 - In 2014, Hawthorn had 34 games from debutants, ranked 7th in the competition (above GWS & WB).
2 - Will Langford rates as the No 1 tagger in the competition - kept his opponents 39% below their average output last season.
3 - In the lowest scoring year since 1969, Hawks averaged 112 pts per game - no other team was in triple figures.
4 - Brian Lake had 28 defensive 1 on 1 contests in the season, losing only 4.
5 - Hawks had 8 players with 30 or more shots at goal - 7 of these recorded above average goal kicking accuracy.
6 - Hawks are number 1 team for inside 50 retention (both short and long kicks).
7 - Hawks defence and forward lines are rated No 1 in the competition
8 - Cyril Rioli is rated as the No 1 general forward in the AFL
9 - Jordan Lewis was 1st in the AFL for total disposals as well as total effective disposals in 2014.
10 - In the 10 years since the line in the sand match (2005 - 2014), the Bombers have not won a finals match! Hawks have snagged 3 flags - thanks Vanders, Browny and Derm!

In the last 10 years the Hawks have traded in 9 players - 7 of these remain on the list (Gibson, Burgoyne, Hale, Gunston, Lake, Spangher, McEvoy). Cheney and Boumann are the only traded in players that are no longer on the list, with expectations O'Rourke is also a long term recruit.

In the last 10 years the Hawks have traded out 11 players (incl 3 Premiership players) with only 2 playing over 40 games for their new sides - McGlynn & Kennedy. None of Hay, Lonie, Everitt, Williams, Sierakowski, Renouf, Lisle, Gilham or Savage have made significant contributions after leaving the Hawks. The challenge is set for Cheney, Lowden, Hallahan and Savage.

Great work, especially the Line in the Sand stuff, but two issues I have:

1. There's a Essendon supporter on the main board who says with conviction that we are the 6th best defence in the competition. I'm sure he knows better than the AFL Prospectus.

2. Isn't there a "c" in Schwab?

;)

Hi Hawkers,

4 - Brian Lake had 28 defensive 1 on 1 contests in the season, losing only 4.

8 - Cyril Rioli is rated as the No 1 general forward in the AFL

.

As Crawf would say: 'That's what I'm talking about"

Curious to know more about how number 8 works?

Disposal efficiency....The Squirrel doesn't waste the pill!

Would be great to know the 5 teams he has in front of us! Gibson, Lake, Frawley, Birchall, Stratton & Suckling seems OK as a back 6 - perhaps having Burgoyne, Hodge & Mitchell playing as defensive midfielders hurts the rating! Maybe he was comparing our Box Hill backline - Spangher, Litherland, Schoenmakers, Duryea, Whitecross & Miles... still a touch unfair!

Great stuff Shwab! I love these type of stats, it just shows how an awesome of a season we actually had. And about Cizzle and the Bear? Awesome and no matter what others say, ELITE!

I guess if you take all the offensive stats (goals, avg. goals per match, pressure acts, assists, clearances inside 50, etc.) and average them all out, Cyril must come out on top.

If true, it is crazy thinking that he has not been at his best for a while now

From memory, Cyril comes in at approx. 67% for ball usage going inside the forward 50, where the pressure to deliver is at it's hottest....Only Brent Harvey comes close at around 65%, with the next best player in the league under 60%.

These 2 blokes are the elite of the elite when it comes to delivery inside the forward 50.....As Bruce would say...."That's Special"!;)

Reading the list when I got to point 7, I giggled and said to myself "gotta post that on the main board thread" in response to same efc fan.

These certainly are elite figures and shows how dominant the Hawks are, hope everyone jumps on board and buys a membership and enjoys the ride for a few more years. :thumbsu::thumbsu:
