Can’t let them have a 5 goal start next week against a side that’s actually decent. Got to the grand final which was the bare minimum pass mark this year, flags are hard to win so hopefully gets it right from the first moment next week.

Credit where it’s due, big change in attitude and game style in second quarter (to the way we should be playing) with more composure and less panicked hoof kicks

Nathan knows a lot about footy and the majority of his comments are spot on but he can be a bit of a panic merchant.

I don't think he's on his own there. It's an emotional game.
if we lost I don’t think anyone would have quoted their “dummy” comment and said “told you so” and gloated. He’s a poor man’s billy puller.

We all get carried away ,well most of us , in the moment SizeMatters.

It's only a blog where thoughts are put up on the run in the heat of the battle.

I don't take any of it too seriously. Just like standing in the outer in the old days.

The Carlton players. Sometimes you just have to give credit where it's due I think.
The Blues pressure was amazing in that 1st quarter, we were stunned by it in the stands, the way we steadied late in that quarter was a terrific sign of the ability of our group to turn it around on ground without input from coaches.

The defenders ability in that 1st quarter to keep the Blues to only 6 shots at goal while under siege was outstanding as well.

Biggest problem was that 5 of those shots at goal, were goals.😢

But I agree, said to my daughter at quarter time:
I really liked the last 3 minutes of that quarter we started to get on top, I think we’ve got them.

Going to be a lot of second guessing about the call to try grind out the end of the first and second quarters by putting Rayner back as the spare.

Doing it with Gunston didn’t work against the Dees and it was not a good call today.

All in all there were clear improvements in game style and approach this year and we lost by less than a kick. But think the coaching staff would like to have their time again on a few decisions.

Dodongo mentioned it elsewhere but a move that Fages and the coaching group regret will be not bringing in Lyons earlier. There were a couple of players that were clearly were not up to standard and we needed a beast like Lyons in the middle.

Outcoached today. McRae got it spot on, that donut Frampton shutdown Harris completely for 3.5 quarters and allowed them to get the ball to ground level where their otherwise mediocre forwards were able to make sure of their speed advantage over our slow defence.

When Murphy went off expected us to expose their lack of height in defence and force them into throwing Frampton back, but we couldn't take advantage (not entirely on the coaching group here - Hipwood was very ordinary) even with Daniher's dominance which meant they were able to keep the matchups in their favour.

A few of Fagan's favourites were amongst our worst performers as well, Ah Chee off was a strange choice - probably half a dozen I would've taken ahead of him, and the substitute itself was too late we could all see the momentum had shifted too far by the time Lyons came on.

Definitely need some changes in the coaching staff or at least their way of doing things, too many players continuing to make the same type of errors they have made for the past few years (Berry - undiscplined, McInerny - blind handballing to no one) which they have never been made accountable for. It's been time for a few of the players to grow up for a couple of years now and not seeing any signs of it happening

A few weird takes in this post

I saw that duel very close to hand for half the game and Andrews gave him an absolute bath, including freely running off him to spoil out of bounds, getting free kicks (which never go to the defender), and overall keeping up his impact.

The forwards were generally taking shots from the arc or chipping to unmanned players coming forward, not many of the deep entries resulted in goals.

Our 3 talls were I thought very good. (Andrews, Gardiner and Lester)

We were 1 straight kick away from a premiership

Sure there are things to improve but the current group have shown they are capable of making big improvements

I'm not sure how I feel about you being positive Jackess. You're slowly entering favourite poster territory. Please stop.
