Coach Fages and the coaching group

Against my better judgement I am back coaching senior cricket - on the weekend we suffered a narrow loss - when I went thru my internal measures we should have been nowhere near it - but like last week we were one boundary away from a win but didn’t deserve to win.

So with a mix of old and young faces what do I do this week?

Address the specifics with the individuals - deal with the areas needing improvement and take the positives and move on quickly looking for a response this week

Not on the back of one poor performance - but I’ll be addressing my concerns with the individuals and see if they can make some improvements in the area - however if on the long run they can’t meet their individual or team goals then they will make way

So, you just want the coach to blame 1 player for our 4-point GF loss. As long as it is not Lester of course.

Kiddy was runner up in the Norm Smith. you may as well have a go at him too.
Kiddy only had 1 disposal in the 3rd and that kick was smothered. Then only 3 in the last all kicks.

Every player would have tried to give their all on the day.
After all they just spent 6 months of hard work getting to this position.
Sometimes it just does not work out as planned with us complex humans.

It is a long and draining season to get to the GF and the Pies handled the day better than the Lions.

Nah, that was a “vignette” from a possibly larger piece about the comments that Fagan may have made.

I don’t mind that we are having a bit of a coaching shake up as long as we can land some decent replacements.
Would so love to prize Hodgey away from the media.
He is kind of lost to the game doing that shit, he is soooo much more than that.

I just hope people don't assume an assistant coach isn't good because they don't have a recognisable name.

I think a couple of coaching changes is a good thing. Always good to have a core remain for stability but one or two changes every few years helps keep players on their toes/ freshens things up.

Yeah i guess always depends why they are leaving (you would assume in good faith) and who comes in.

Surely we are not under pressure to spend unders on our soft cap? Record membership and we will be making plenty of money next year off the back of a granny.

It's true big names are not always required but as i keep banging on about we need a bit more outside IP on gameplan to give us some more options / plan b, c etc.

Dew was very much a “my way or the highway” type senior coach.

His (lack of) interpersonal skills was the big criticism of him at GC.

Nor did he get the best out of his players.

I might be in the minority here about not being too enthusiastic about Dew joining us.

This could very much be Justin Leppitsch you describe. Not a good head coach, seems a very good assistant…
