Not sure a coach who manhandled a player was hard done by.

Bloke was just not a good senior coach.
Do you know the facts about that incident? If you do, it's a lot easier to understand what transpired rather than just hear that Leppa had him up against the wall in the change rooms. Not saying it was acceptable behaviour, but the player involved was way out of line and should have been suspended immediately.

On the contrary I have heard fantastic reports on Dewey's relationships with the players and assitants. Feedback coming from 2 current players, they loved his style and the way he went about planning strategies from game to game. He is missed big time.
Just goes to show that you dont take as gospel what is written or spoken...especially by the media.
Yes have heard the same. Cal Ah Chee played under Dew at the Suns and spoke highly of him previously as well. Although he did also leave the club so who knows.

Are you saying we should have invested more in the water gun department under Leppa’s reign ;)

That would have been a significant upgrade from the resources he had at the time. Leppa was very much on a no frills budget that will never occur again.

Leppa was hard done by in my opinion. If he had 1/2 the resources that our current coach currently has, I'm confident you would have seen significantly improved results. Vossy much the same.

Voss was definitely hard done by. He was put in a crap spot where he decided to try and win now instead of rebuild. The club knew that. Then they didn't give him a chance to actually rebuild.

Leppitsch, not hard done by. He just sucked as a coach sorry to say.

After seeing his Dad abusing people at a neafl game a few years ago, I am not surprised.

The facts are largely irrelevant when there is always a better way to handle a situation than resorting to violence, especially from someone in a senior position such as his.

Despite that one incident, the rest of Leppa's tenure was incredibly underwhelming and I would imagine he'd be the first one to admit it. I thought he struggled to connect with younger players and lacked any semblance of a game plan that could win games of footy or even at worse mitigate the damage of the blowouts.

Leppa obviously lacked resources and was a bit of a fall-guy during some very lean years but he was not hard done by. Voss was incredibly screwed over by a very incompetent board though.

Official.

Interesting quote to hear:

Following post-season discussions, the Lions and Stone have mutually agreed not to extend his contract, allowing the former Lions strategy coach to pursue other opportunities.

Not surprised at this. DD was/is Fages right hand man rather than Stone and I guess he felt a little left out maybe.

Obviously you can’t say who, but have you heard that we are into anyone at this stage ML?

I wonder if Gossage was right the other day. Perhaps we are “downsizing” the coaching department a bit, but spending a little bit more on the next appointment, which if it is Dew would cost more than any of our previous assistants.

I still think sometimes we play our own gameplan to strongly which we only slightly tinker.
After Melb loss I think we learnt to shut down better although the red time goals in GF killed us.
I do not mind if you're loosing throw some magnets around or even look to hard tag players like teams do with Neale.
N Diacos was given way too much room and someone who really hates tags.

Not talking about the media.

What I’m mentioning comes directly from inside the club, and has done so for the past 3 seasons.

It’s completely different without the pressure of being head coach.
Was a highly rated assistant before he got the gig at the GC. And will be again no doubt.
Similar to Leppa

Think I'm just going to copy and paste this into the review thread and that will be my summary of the Grand Final 🤷‍♂️

No way known we should have been made to look old and slow like we were, when we literally brought our home conditions to Melbourne for both the parade and game day.

It’s weird because while I agree you have to wonder whether our injury luck is because we don’t seem to push the players as hard. I forgot who it was but they’re at Adelaide now after having a stint at Melbourne which essentially saw them fall apart with injuries after their premiership year. Now the Crows look like one of the fittest teams in the comp but it might cost them.

5 goals in red time agrees with you but I actually think we tend to go defensive late in quarters which teams take advantage of. If anything we should stick with our system even more during this time

Your last sentence is the key.

We tried our absolute best but some players made mistakes, as you'd expect ,and our tactics misfired a little in the context of how the game played out.

We just didn't have the same energy we've had when we're on song but we toughed it out and almost pinched it.

It’s just shit to point fingers after a grand final loss. Just go on holiday and come back the next season and that’s when your going to have players who are going to in a better position to learn, improve and be motivated to do so. Every player later put 100% out there and I reckon losing looked punishment enough for any players who had a down game.

We went from taking a learning from shutting the game down too early at the end to trying to shut it down near the end of quarters with the same result. Unfortunately on full display in a GF.

The opposition could see this so they went full throttle knowing we weren't planning on doing anything special for 2 or 3 minutes.

I agree it was too predictable and backfired.

Not just GF we only won 11 last quarters for the year 10th in the comp from a team that won 17 games

Won 15 3rd equal first with Port
Won 14 2nd 5th in comp
won 16 first equal first
