which would not have helped. But now is the time to listen to the suggestions of his senior players.

He needs to accept suggestions of how best to stop the run-ons that have bedevilled the Lions so far,
with eight unanswered goals ruining opening round and round one, while the Magpies kicked four straight at the end of the first quarter to open up the eventual margin.
If the leaders’ advice also means making hard calls on players, that’s what needs to be done as Fagan’s loyalty to players – ordinarily a great strength of his – is not an asset right now.
Do coaches listen to senior players in such situations as we find ourselves in now?

I would have thought their opinions would be canvassed.

Absolutely.
Some good things there and also some things way off beam.

Ah Chee has just about been in our best players every game this year. Why is Ah Chee always on the chopping block when players on 3 times the money don't perform and he does ?

Bailey was putrid against the Pies with pathetic non tackling attempts and only did something when everyone else was tired . Don't know what this guy was watching. Well I doubt he watched it.

I'm sure Fages has already asked Senior players lots of things , maybe get some help in the coaching outfit and tell the players what they need them to do . We have 8 leaders ,or is it 9 ? , and whatever they're doing on the field re leadership and tactics hasn't been overly flash so get the coaches to devise tactics and coach. I'm sure he's listened to the leaders plenty.

What's this if the 'leaders make hard calls on players' ? Well they're not going to make hard calls on themselves are they.

We're a bit mentally soft. I don't think anyone on here would disagree as it's been raised by nearly everyone over the last 3 or 4 years.

We don't need consensus from every man and his dog . We need someone in charge to tell them what he wants and get a bit ruthless if he doesn't get it.

We should've won 2/3 and there are good teams with 3 games head start on us so the time for hesitation's through.

First Crack must be reading BigFooty as well, as Joey Montagna just covered most of what’s been mentioned on here by our game analysts.

Especially that we haven’t evolved our game plan over the last 5 years, and it’s becoming easier to defend.

Honestly I think the stock is there, I just don't know who is directing them because it makes no sense. Hipwood should be leading to marks around 70m out. Joey should be going one on one for a high mark and not diving for a free. Linc and Cameron should be crumbling the sh*t out of everything, and Rayner should be a lead up Jonathan Brown-type option.

We don't have the muscle up front to be dominating positionally, but players like Hipwood have a decent tank to pull defences in alternative directions.

We simply cannot continue to bomb inside 50 and expect to win games. Almost every defence has the answer to that style now.

If we haven't woken up by now you'd have to wonder.

Too many stars and would be stars in our forward line.

Damning stats that are there for all to see.

We've been good enough to get away with it because of the quality of our stock but when we're off our game or out of form as the coach seems to think we get creamed.

I'm not giving up on this year but it is an opportunity to reset ,toughen up a few guys, and develop a more potent gameplan.

I know we don't have the midfield mix that we would like ,and I doubt that Will will be a significant factor this year , but there are other aspects of our game where we can tighten up and get stronger and better.

Team defence is the first thing I would be working on. Especially the forward and mids need to get to work, Dunkley can’t do it all himself.
Our offence works best off the back of the defence.
We get the D right and the O will flow.

I’m not getting paid to be his sub-editor, but he clearly means Harry Sharp.
Here you go 3KZ is Football as my reward of being our favourite casual sub-editor ;)

Totally agree.

Too many chiefs and not enough indians. Our many stars in the forward half particularly need to go to boot camp on what average players have to do to keep a spot in the side.

Team D was awesome in the second quarter on Thursday night.
Collingwood could barely get the ball out of their back half for the whole quarter.
We seemed to go to a one on one all over the ground which worked for us and it was strange that we switched back to a zone in the second half.

Funny thing when we ran out after half time we just didn't look into it.

Maybe I'm just going senile but I spend a bit of time watching the teams run out at the start and after the break. You can just tell sometimes.

When Voss used to run out when we were at our peak you could see no one was going to get away with anything.
What system were we playing in the second quarter and at the start of the Carlton game?
The system that the opposition allowed us to play.

It's a 4 quarter game. Not much use if it only works or if you only have the energy for one.

So when we play well it's nothing to do with our system, when we play poorly it's because of our system?

That doesn't detract from my point.

None of them could work put how to beat our system last year but now we need to start over?

Interesting aspect of the Collingwood game .

We completely dominated the 2nd quarter. I commented at the time the Pies looked out on their feet. We didn't capitalise on the domination and booted it into a crowded forward line more often than not.

Does anyone think the Pies were foxing ? We came out in the 3rd quarter, all the energy was gone , the game suddenly opened up for them.

It was weird to watch.

Nathan you're one of the best extrapolators I've ever seen.

Where did I ever say we needed to start over ?

Where did I say when we play poorly it's because of our system ?

No system helps when you play poorly.

My comments have been mainly directed at effort and accountability.

You said we’d been figured out and had to develop a new gameplan
