Need to try and hit up targets in the forward line instead of just kicking and hoping which was happening all game.

What an abysmal second half. I'm glad I didn't book that $2000 flight to Melbourne in September I had been looking at. I guess anything can happen in the Finals, but... :(

Hitting targets in general wouldn't go astray.

Geelong just too polished.

However, we're still 2nd, we've still played awesome football this year and finals are a different ball game, so writing us off at this point seems a tad drastic.

True - we've been spanked. But...

- rightly or wrongly, it was over 5mins into the last quarter, and we gave up
- the finals aren't played at Skilled Stadium
- our booys SHOULD be better for the experience (time will tell if this will be negative, but I'm confident it will steal them
- any inflated egos are now in check

I agree with all you said

Where were we? I'm assuming half the side went home early as we aren't putting pressure on or presenting a target.

Pretty poor effort by the boys. First half was great. Pressure was up. Ball use wasn't bad. That second half was pitiful.

First half was pretty good.

Second half was an epic fail.

At least it gives us a first hand look at the benchmark of the competition.

Backline smashed
Forward line smashed
Midfield smashed

Need a power forward to have a realistic chance of a Premiership.

All comments spot on except that last one. We could have SIX power forwards and still not win, if that's the consistency of the pressure we apply to the opposition players around the ground.

If what we saw today is a preview to the Grand Final, I hope we DON'T make it. Committing seppuku like that on the biggest stage does not appeal to me as a spectator or a supporter.

Was very happy with the way we played in the first half. But the 2nd was a disgrace, come one doggies if we want to win the flag we have to do better then that.

I couldnt have been prouder at half time but that second half was a knife in the guts. To many players went missing Aker, Hahn, Johnson, Murphy and Lake all senior players didnt do enough. Everitt, Minson still have a long way to go and didnt handle the pressure today Everitt especially had no answers when his opponent got on top. Today was a real wake up call for the boys.

Tried to hit targets running back towards goal when with the wind, it just didn't work. The second qtr against the wind we kicked to lead up targets which worked much better.

Fact: has been a poor game
Fact: All of our most important players have had bad games - Murphy, Aker, Cooney, Hahn, Morris, Boyd, Johnno - ALL OF THEM.
Fact: We will have a week on Big Footy reminiscent of our loss against North. We will abuse our favourite targets ( Cam must be happy he wasn't playing - can't be blamed!), declare we are no chance in the finals, have lots of posts deleted because of !@#$$#ing angry comments.
Fact: I repeat it has been a VERY poor game. Disappointing we didn't fight it out. Backline was too loose today - we need to address our issue of letting forwards take uncontested chest marks. But lack of forward line pressure didn't help - Scarlett and Milburn over 60 touches between them is not good.

BUT - let's not over react. ( but I know some of us will!)
We'll continue to win most of our games - finish 2nd or 3rd then know what we have to do next time. Whether we can do that only time will tell.

The complete absence of our topline players in the last quarter said it all.

Watching our second-stringers pack their dacks under heavy pressure is of the most unedifying spectacles you can have.

And what exactly are the 'lessons' we've learned? How to withstand attention? That we need on average an extra four kilos per player? That a footy game goes for 100 minutes?

Geelong had 463 possessions to our 336.many uncontested but plenty of them were contested.
You can't win against those stats, a difference of 127. It's like them having 4 or 5 good extra players on the ground.
We did not try hard enough to win the ball and keep possession. You can't kick goals if you haven't got the footy.
Perhaps it's because they are just too good, at the moment.

All I can say is this.

Geelong >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Flemington Strait

Rest of the competition

I hope the Pies knock the Cats out in the finals.

We will take a lot out of the game. It's not all bad!

Yeah, I guess a 10-goal loss is great.

I can't get over how easy the Cats were able to run up the ground in the second half without any pressure whatsoever. It was like a hot knife through butter.

Very, very disappointing.

We were lucky to be close in that 1st qtr, the Cats had about 70 more possies in that qtr alone.

We should learn three things from this game;

1. Pressure Geelong and they become human.
2. Geelong are awesomely fit.
3. Our skills need to be fine tuned.

Also all the people calling for Brad Johnson's head a couple of weeks back where is your comments about how damn selfish Gia and especially Aker were today it was disgraceful.

As previously mentioned we can mention our attack and defense and say we need a big forward but we lost this game in the clinches. We were out muscled and outplayed in contested situations and that really is dissapointing because that has been our major improvement this year.
