Had a Whopper the other day for the first time in years. It didn't quite taste the same. Something was different. I think it was the bun.

Had a Grand Big Mac on the weekend, it was good, I suspect it's just the same size as what they used to be though.

In n Out is the most overrated of Americas chains. Couldn't for the life of me understand the hype when I had it

Agree with this, will go a local takeout fnc/charcoal chicken/kebab place over any american fast food chain, the food from those local places are streets ahead

We still get a great burger from our local fish n chips shop.

Had a good steak sandwhich from a fish n chip shop when i was away over summer.

Agreed 100%. KFC costs $15 to fill me up whereas my local chicken shop I can get a schnitzel burger, can of drink and a side for $12ish. Food is much better too. People just love chains but better food and lower cost is at your local

I think the issue sometimes is finding a local, giving it a crack and having a positive experience.

In most cases though I reckon most people would look at a local place they haven't tried and decide it's probably poor quality before they even give it a go.

Probably right, but I can only think of one local shop I wouldn't go back to of the many I've ordered from. Shows how much advertising actually works really

Some places still do this (e.g. Kensington Fish Shop).

The Embassy Taxi Cafe still does great F&C style burgers. Open 24 hours too. And yes, under $10.

Took me awhile to understand having beetroot on a plain hamburger when I arrived in Oz

Even though they claim beetroot as an Australian burger staple
I think it was a NSW thing more than a Victorian thing ???
I remember the plain burgers of my yoof were toasted and buttered bread roll (not sweet), iceberg lettuce, grilled onions and tomato too (you could ask for no tomato it just made it too wet and wrecked the balance and slid out)

My go too was and still is toasted buttered bread roll, iceberg lettuce,meat, grilled onion, grilled pineapple, cheese and tomato sauce....in that order

I did have a Hardees in the early 70s I had an American friend and he had his birthday there. (In Camberwell Shops where the Target is now )
Never went back there either
I cant remember having more than one Burger King either

Prefer the normal burger roll to a brioche bun: Cheese, Meat, Bacon, Egg, Iceberg Lettuce, Tomato, Grilled Onion and bit of chilli sauce

Instead of butter I use a mayo on the top half of the bun and a sauce on the bottom half.

Pineapple in a hamburger is just wrong for me. Never ever.

Macdonalds introduced the sweet rolls that every FnC started using from about the 80s on.
The "normal" burger bun was almost a panini originally,just a basic flat white round roll
