Of the years listed in the poll, 2007 was fairly enjoyable but it ended in disappointment. In 2013 we played some of our most attractive football since the 90's but half of our defeats were of the heartbreaking kind, either after the siren or the opponent storming home after we were looking comfortable. Even the years we made the prelims ended disappointingly.

Nice thread. I'm feeling a little depressed now.:(

Overall I'd go 1993, after a diabolical start to the season, we ended up playing some of the most attractive football I've ever seen. It was fast, attacking, low possession football (15.1ppg) that was breathtaking to watch and we had a four-pronged attack (Longmire (75 goals), McAdam (68), Carey (64) & Roberts (47)) that was almost unstoppable. Until injuries stopped them in the finals.:( But it was the first chapter in an exciting decade and the games against Collingwood at Victoria Park, Essendon at the MCG and West Coast at the WACA are still watched regularly.

2009 for mine. I still believe round 14 StK vs Gee is the greatest game of football ever played.

It felt like the game of AFL had reached its pinnacle.

Things have slowly gone downhill with umpteen rule changes/attempts to neuter the sport/compromised drafts/AFLW/X/Y etc.

That saints team has to be one of the best teams not to win a grand final:

Riewoldt
Goddard
Milne
Hayes
Dal Santo
Montana
Fisher
Ball
Etc etc

Even the tail end of Harvey and Gerhig’s careers. And of course the enigmatic Koschitzke.

On the other hand, they had Peake, McQualter, Baker, Gram and Raph Clarke in the same side too. Huge gap in ability.

2016 for obvious reasons, I can’t recall a period over time where positions 1-7 were so closely contested that just 2 wins separated those positions.

2017 was a very interesting season. 6 rounds in the Swans were 0-6 appearing to be in a rut and we (just) were travelling ok. End of season, Swans played finals, we didn’t.

2011....the Collingwood era of dominance was in its second year and everything was on track for back-to-back premierships.

Meanwhile, Geelong had lost its coach and No.1 player at the end of 2010 and came into 2011 with only die hard supporters predicting success .

Geelong was the ONLY team to beat the Pies in 2011, not once, but twice, and the second win was the sweetest...

Even better, you beat them 3 times that year.

2014 was an amazing year to be a Port supporter, especially after all we went through not long before that, but that just made it taste all the more sweeter.

Unfortunately we shot ourselves in the foot with that form slump in the middle of the year which cost us Top 4, and maybe even a premiership.

2009, just ahead of 2017. Both years had some crazy close and memorable games. 2009 also had my top two H/A games in Essendon vs Collingwood and St Kilda vs Geelong

2009-2011 in general were probably the best 3 years of the modern era from a quality perspective. Geelong, Collingwood and St Kilda were really good to watch.

Yeah 2010

Collingwood were clearly better than us throughout the season and the show we put on in the draw still gives me tingles

It wasn't to be, but that's life sometime.
Very true, I didn’t give you a hope in that gf as the pies were dominant through the year however if they had extra time then you win the flag.

For me - 2011 - Eagles going from spoon to Prelim....defeating Chris Judd’s best Carlton team in an epic final at Subi. Never expected them to do anything that year so every twist and turn was highly enjoyable!

2017 home and away season was great. Lots of surprising results, close games and the final 8 wasn't settled until the last round. Unfortunately, the finals, were a bit of a let down, except Port vs. WC. What a ripper that game was! Hope 2018 is similar to last season (with a more clisely contested finals series).
