I was going to say the different font sizes really bother me - particularly West Coast Eagles 1994 and 2006 - and then found the 1985 entry strange. Carlton Hawthorn 1985? I checked to see if they were equal top with identical percentage. They finished 3rd and 4th. And Melbourne weren't minor premiers in 1990.

Didn't bother checking any other years, and really doesn't matter... but if that's a photo of the actual McLelland, there are at least two mistakes on it!

Edit: it was awarded to the team that performed the best across seniors, reserves and under 19s until 1990 - which explains the differences. Has been given to the actual minor premier since 1991.

This take might get me banned but something has been itching in the back of my mind for the last month or so. Dangerfield. Is he approaching 'dead weight' status? Honestly - how important is he in our potential premiership success? If we somehow make it and win it, I just don't see Danger being a significant piece of the success story. There are so many players in the team who are now so much more vital than him. Hawk, Cameron, Stengle, Holmes, Atkins, Henry, Blicavs, SDK, Bews, Stewart, Stanley, Guthrie (x2), Close, etc. I'd take every one of those players over Dangerfield in a final. And that's a great thing for our team. My hope is that Danger will go into finals with zero pressure on his shoulders. It might make it more likely for him to tear a game apart.

good call, Danger isn't what he used to be, however he still has his moments of absoloute elite football and you may be 100% spot on with that call, if he doesn't feel the pressure to carry us as much his mind might be a little more free and open to just tearing a game apart.. we can only hope

We will have to be mentally ready for a team to come out against us like a buzz saw. So far we have had the system, skills, cohesion, and desire. But clinical can often be eclipsed by ability and massive desperation. We have to be able to deal with that sort of manic pressure in finals.

Just out of curiosity, what was the most games we won in a row during the 07-11 glory years?

15 in a row in 2007 (round 6 to round 20)
15 in a row in 2008 (round 10 to preliminary final)

current streak started in round 10. Geelong had the bye in round 13.
So Gold Coast in Round 22 is the 12th win in a row.

West Coast could be the 13th in a row.

hope it's not 2008 all over again. we need to go one better

If you want to be really annoyed.... Port in 2002 and 2003 not only have different size lettering but a different font as well...

As someone who does this stuff for a living I absolutely share the being bothered by it being all over the place

He’s not in the team to tear the game apart, he’s there to play his role like every other player. He had 7 clearances last night, 15 contested possessions. Before that he had 7 and 10 against the Dogs. That’s where his value is.

Agreed, if there is 1 area we might get exposed in finals it's center clearances, Danger is still elite in this area. However if he marks the ball 40m out then please pass off to Duncan, 2E or Smith for the running shot as he is a liability kicking for goal atm.

And of course... where the * will they send us now?!?!

MY preference will be the G on Sat arvo - we have earned that right to allow GFC supporters to get there unabated.

But in reality it will be a night game at the G... probably Friday... with the trains not running, double road works and something else to make it harder for supporters to get there.

Saturday night! F* yeah

Melb are in bad form but their midfield can trouble us dont want them. Luckily we wont get them in week 1. Looking like we will get freo or collingwood which im comfortable with.

Getting overrun in the midfield in finals is still the biggest worry for me. Danger/Selwood can still have big games but hard for them to have 3 big games in a row at this point in their careers. It is much harder for an Atkins level player to step up in finals compared to H&A to paper over the cracks. From that perspective Melbourne still scare the beejesus out of me regardless of current form.

They have to be ready for us to come out like a buzz saw.
This year, composure is what we have in spades. We have players that just dig in and perform under pressure. It used to pretty much be only Duncan you could really rely on to play in a composed manner in a final. Now you have Stengle, Close, Miers, Tuohy, Stewart, Smith, Guthrie, Atkins, Blicavs and even Stanley.

And then you add the absolute wildcards of Danger, Cameron and Hawkins that could just catch fire and tear a game apart.

Desperation is what we had in the past when a game was going out of reach. Pressure goes up, desperation goes up, it looks like a great game, but we often make mistakes or give away frees or do dumb things in these games.

We’ll up the pressure to match the opposition. And then we will play composed systematic footy to rend them apart.

Where's this from? Not doubting it, except for the lack of Thursday night final.
