I'm looking for players to win Finals ....give me a Jones type player over pretty game Sholl, who will disappoint massively with finals type pressure

I never questioned Dmack for his physicality, it was for not doing enough in his role especially as a senior player.

I’m not choosing a hill over Sholl, another Wayne furphy. I’m saying when it comes down to our available wings I’d have him way ahead of Jones, because Jones struggles to get enough ball for a winger.

You wouldn't call him a contested beast but plays his position well to win a grand final and be BOG

How closely did you watch Sholl in the SANFL finals at that level...pretty average.

I did watch him, and he wasn't great

But I haven't seen anything from Jones to suggest he'd be better, especially at AFL level. Sholl is the more proven player at AFL level on a wing. Jones only spot is back pocket

There's obviously something in Sholls game, the Coach's don't like .....and it would be a collective agreement between Nicks, Van Berlo, and Scott Burns, as Senior Assistant

There's something .....Sholl himself said in early season interviews, he was working on his contested game .....but why was he dropped? ....positioning, effort, it's the finer points of his game, not simply stats

Re sholl debate - do believe he’s been unlucky , he plays the wing pretty well and when he’s fresh and using his endurance running he’s pretty effective

Part of what he talked about this offseason was getting a bit bigger and stronger physically. You don't necessarily need him going into every contest, but want to develop him physically to the point he's confident enough he can throw himself into a contest and come out fine when he needs to.

I don’t have an issue with this, you don’t want him to be soft and shirk a contest. I have an issue with trying to turn the winger into a contested ball winner, their job is to provide an outlet, the run and delivery. When you play Hately and even Crouch on the wing, that gives you an indication where Nicks heads at.

This. Its a bloody lottery mate. The rules are different in underage competitions to the big league. We ALL know this. Some posters are just poisonous. Not a true supporter or they always fill their glass to 'half empty'.

I don’t have an issue with this, you don’t want him to be soft and shirk a contest. I have an issue with trying to turn the winger into a contested ball winner, their job is to provide an outlet, the run and delivery. My guess/hope is he just overcorrected a bit (or a lot) and they did a "let's just try it and see if it works" move. It clearly didn't, so that should be experiment over. We started the year with Sholl/Cook types in there, they got dumped for being a bit soft.

Hinge didn't have that issue, I'm not a huge fan of Jones, but soft he is not. They both got their spells on the wings, as did Soligo and aren't exclusively inside players. I'm hoping if Sholl knows what the expectations are and has a bit more size on him then the coaches will feel more comfortable with someone like him in the side.
