Coach Football department changes going forward

Disappointing if these reports are true. If football department is a shambles, buck stops with Chris Grant surely.

Typical of the club historically though - make some significant (and going by BF, well-supported) changes to the playing list, bring in an experienced assistant in Lade (again well-supported on here), but there is still questions over administration.

And the stuff-up documented in the membership thread regarding auto renewing members who did not choose the auto-renew option. Not every part of an organisation runs smoothly all the time, but it's almost whack-a-mole atm.

At least the AFLW team and coaching have achieved a level of stability following the rapacious efforts of the AFLW organisation to re-distribute our elite players across expansion clubs. 🤞

Everyone loves Chris and has always been a great Guy and a gentleman. Always thought this characteristic held him back to achieve his potential as a player. Yes he was a great player but he needed to be more ruthless. This holds him back with Bevo. Unfortunately I cannot see him standing up to Bevo and keeping him in line

I was told that several people we targeted for various departments have gone elsewhere.

A few key personal have quit suddenly (Jayden Shea being a main one) - these people are core to our group dynamic and how our football department runs.

And I do get the feeling after speaking with a current player and a staff member, that the report is digging fairly deep. Most of the players who have stayed in Aus over this off season have been interviewed, believe they're waiting for the rest to get back from overseas before completely wrapping it up.
So you're saying there is in fact a review happening?

That's a promising start but should be the bare minimum we'd expect. Good to hear they may be digging deep.

General reports of the club being a shambles are worrying. It's hard to make the finals, let alone top 4, if the footy department and possibly the players are distracted by internal chaos.

I think I'll have to re-set my expectations for 2023 ... :(

Review is 100% underway. Internal and not external, all players (including some recently retired) and football department staff being interviewed.

I would of preferred an external but here we are.. better than nothing I suppose.

Are they canvassing feedback from all the Dunkkeys and Scott West, for balance?!

Thanks for the info, do we know who internally is heading the review? I guess it would be Bains?

There's plenty of people out there that dogs can target. There were many let go in 2020 because of the cut to the department spending so I don't doubt they will be able to find someone. Might not be high profile though.

As for the shambles stuff might have to wait until to see how bad things are.

The last bit sounds promising. It absolutely needs to be a deep review.

Surely they will post Dunks exit interview

…. Yeah nah unprofessional but wanted to be closer to families

It’s up to Luke Darcy to hold Chris Grant to account. Is he able to do this to his former captain(Grant) about a former teammate and kind of mentor (Bevo)?

Nathan Burke could be a potential replacement for Chris Maple? The replacement for Chris Maple is a critically important choice for the football department/club. Someone with a good temperament, wise and with a lot of experience.

Pretty sure Bucks has his sights on something higher in the AFL landscape

Scott West goes to every past players function and even goes interstate to watch Bulldog games. He doesn't have a rift with the club.
Yeah, I know, was just a throwaway line as a joke. He did have an issue with Beveridge though last year (rightly or wrongly) when Rhylee wasn't getting senior games. I don't doubt his feelings for the club though.

I can see Barnett or Karro's next article:

"Bulldog crisis: Boyd, Murphy, Hansen, King, Dunkley, Hunter, Stringer, Roughead and now Morris all at other clubs is due to the megalomaniac in charge at VUWO."

There are whispers Luke Beveridge recently appointed himself as manager of both the football and membership depts. The president was the sole witness to the documents confirming these appointments, but assumed they were all above board, and Beveridge would inform the incumbents in those roles in due course. Subsequently, members who had not nominated the auto-renewal function were charged the first instalment for 2023 memberships.

Very happy to see Bevo extended. He's a proven performer, with some flaws, but it looks like the club has acknowledged that he needs more support and you'd expect some further changes out of the review that many have been calling for. Not to mention the available alternatives if he did leave at the end of next year.
