Heartwarming

It was a great story. Should be more like it.
As some of you long timers may remember, the first 8 years I was on Bigfooty (2001-9) I played (and umpired) for the Singapore Wombats. I loved playing and interacting with the Bali team. They also host a great Masters tournament called the Bali 9s.

i think as its not 1:1 you may not be able to get all 4 of em squished in without letterboxing it? (adding a band on top or bottom) or stretching it, or something completly different I don't know :)

Apparently the cats have made an innocent 'administrative error' regarding player payments, that innocently went on for 8 years before some innocent soul noticed it. Overpayments, surely. Wonder how much?

So a club with an alleged culture of not paying any individual more than a certain limit which is less than the market rate for said talent, then voluntarily reports this error of managing whatever other incentive scheme was after pissing the bed against gold coast and embarking on a rebuild. Sounds like the afl to me, play on

That annoys the crap out of me. Look at us fitting in all these superstars in our salary cap just because they love the club. $40k isn’t a big enough penalty.

Cheats.

And yet what should be a bigger deal than Melbourne tanking gets less play than James hirds kid being a category B rookie for essendon. We fans talk about umps fixing games until the cows come home but this kind of bullshit is where the game is really rigged. But let's be honest, the afl has never given a **** about cheating. They had to be dragged kicking and screaming to do something about essendon peds

Are you serious; Hird's son qualifies as a Category B rookie?

Farcical if so.

Soccer player apparently.
Farcical, particularly given he has played AFL (not literally) in the past.

Next think you know, Victorian clubs will start getting kids to also play basketball, tennis, whatever and they'll now be eligible for Category B.

Not saying I want Hird, but with the joke that the NGA has become, it seems the AFL has created so many loopholes you could drive a road train through in order for Victorian clubs to gain an advantage.

The rule is that they can't be a registered AFL player for three years, IIRC. Pretty much all the alternative sports pathway rookies (Cat B) these days are guys who played junior AFL and then switched back, e.g. Blicavs, Fullarton, Keith.

Either way it is a dumb rule.

Should be reserved for guys that have never played i.e. Irish, US or guys that never actually played junior footy such as basketballballers etc, but the son of James Hird?:drunk:

Hird’s kid was over in Holland trialling for a spot in one of the Dutch teams soccer academies.

You would have to be a pretty high level soccer talent to get that chance.

As others have mentioned, it’s no different to how we picked Fullerton up, and has absolutely nothing to do with NGA’s.

If he had stayed in the AFL pathways he would have been a father son to Essendon anyway. If he was any good, Essendon would have had to match a bid in the National Draft. If he was a ok talent, they would have signed him as a Cat B rookie if he slipped through the draft.

Again, no different to Fullerton.
