Some good changes will be happening re access when the underground rail station is finished with the walkway across Main Street and Stanley Street-

P*ss's me off they show the Heat on their mock ups. How long have the Lions been there as the major winter tenant and how long have the Heat been around (no offence to the Heat)

We got financial screwed over by the addition of the expansion teams when we were at the bottom.

We are now getting financially screwed over by covid. At a time when we should be filling the Gabba every game it’s just us hardcore people who are already financially committed.

Given the covid resurgence in Melbourne and the time it would take to vaccinate our population (IF there ends up being a vaccination) I’m nervous about next year season as well.

It will be a long term disaster if our peak performance period is in line with the covid catastrophe

Just going to have to have a five-peat

Just a quick question,I don't know if this has been discussed before but whats up with the darker maroon panels on the back of the shorts? Is it just a fashion thing or is it a different material, say to better dry hands on before kicking. Just interested.

I think the walkways will be great in getting people in and away quickly and safely. Also gives it a bit of an MCG feel with the big walkways leading people to the ground. The station, despite criticism in some quarters will end up being a great thing for the whole area and the Gabba. Really establishes the Gabba as one of the better stadiums once all the upgrades are done.

Apparently to dry their hands.

Luke Hodge on SEN this morning- Harris Andrews is the best key position defender I have played with, high praise from our boy Hodgey for our boy Harris.
I hope none of his old teammates at the hawks take it personally 😂

As Ceebee mentioned they are there to dry hands on. They're actually panels of chamois that are sewn on. From memory I think they first appeared from canterbury on the wallabies shorts many years ago, but I could be wrong. BLK had them on rugby pants for a number of years as well.

I seem to recall that Carlton were the first AFL side to have them because they were mocked at the time for what looked like back pockets on their shorts.

Seems fairly commonplace nowadays.

Is Zac Bailey really nicknamed "Rat"?

On Saturday night watching him play, you can see why.

Must admit, young Zac has a bit of spunk about him too with the small man syndrome. Had a good chuckle at him pushing around Westoff as a small angry man would.

Interesting, hopefully it's of benefit to Dan and Eric-

The AFL has approved new technology it hopes will improve kicking accuracy across the league.
The product is an adhesive strip that fits snugly over laces on a boot and already five clubs have been sent samples to trial.

Pinpoint Kicking Aid is the brainchild of local footballers Scott Ryan and Will Jesser, who have spent more than three years refining a product that was officially given the green light in June by the league.

“Carlton, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Brisbane, The Adelaide Crows academy have it so they can use it at training now.”

Just finished watching last nights Footy Classified and there was a brief exchange on there between them about the 2001 Grand Final which got my blood boiling. Caroline Wilson asked Matthew Lloyd about strapping the Bombers players wore around their arms on that day and Lloyd said it was a dig at the Lions players who were apparently using IV drips to aid recovery/performance, Ross Lyon then chipped in and said that was the start of pushing the boundaries which eventually led to the Bombers supplement saga.

Talk about drawing a long bloody bow:mad::rolleyes::mad:.

I thought the same.

They were certainly implying that we had gone down the Essendon path and had used something that was giving us an advantage.

Pity none of them actually just came out and said it was saline, which is nothing more than a fluid and electrolyte replenisher used as a source of water and electrolytes. I have no doubt the whole panel knew nothing untoward was going on at the Lions but chose to conveniently ignore the facts as it didn't suit their narrative.

This is a media go to strategy these days, most "journalists" push a narrative or at the very least exaggerate and sensationalise instead of just reporting the facts.

Further to my above post, the only thing the AFL didn't like was the aesthetics of our players having a drip inserted into their forearms at half time to inject the saline.

The FC discussion was so disingenuous it wasn't funny.

I wish Lions heavyweights such as Leigh Matthews and Jono Brown who were present at the time and have platforms in the AFL media these days refute such accusations and call Eddie out who clearly is trying to deflect anything and everything from his own toxic club.

To be fair to Matthew Lloyd, I thought he was genuine when he said he couldn't remember why they taped their forearms or Sheedy's reasoning behind it given Sheedy only announced it the day of the game. Thinking back to 2001, you'd honestly think though that Sheedy's attention would've been solely focussed on actually winning the GF as opposed to amateurish BS such as his players taping its forearms as if that would've shifted the Lions players attention from the job at hand.

Love it!

We're extremely lucky with our colours, they always look beautiful on the indigenous guernseys, and just in general too :D The background while not noticeable from afar is really nice

I said last year the design would look great on a canvas (turns out one of the promo pics was with the design on a canvas beside our players haha), but this one even more so. Great work Christensen!

edit: heres a close up

Any idea when which round clubs will get to wear their Indigenous guernseys?
