Foxtel - how atrocious has it become year after year?

Foxtel Now is only 39 bucks a month if you just want sport (have to buy one of the other packages), and you can cancel anytime, so I only have it during footy season. Easy to cast onto the TV with ChromeCast.
Considering doing this as I CBF going to the RSL every weekend to watch the games I want

When you think of it, a meal and a couple of drinks at the pub or RSL probably costs the same, so $39/month to be able to watch in the comfort and convenience of your own home isn't that much, really.

If it wasn't for the sport I wouldn't bother.
Becoming such a rip off when you consider the significantly cheaper options out there in Stan and Netflix.

What really grinds my gears is that they'll bend over backwards to get new customers, but won't do a damn thing to keep long term customers.

I called them to cancel just before Christmas. Told them I have 4 kids, its just too expensive to keep. I work all day so I dont even watch it etc.

Ended up with 6 months HD full service for $49 a month.

Will call them up in another month or so and ask them to keep up the current offer, having trouble with school fees, need to scrap something together etc...

lol they say satellite is the best way to get a picture on your TV, sure unless it's raining heavily
In my experience, it's just electrical/thunder storms with heavy rain that effect the signal, other times it's OK. Even if the sky is covered with cloud in winter it works.

yeah i used to have it, really depends where you live as the kind of weather that causes issues is more common in some places

Suggesting that the end user experience on Satellite is the best is just typical marketing BS though, I mean IP is only good for mobile? Netflix has proven that's bullshit already but keep selling that line if you want Foxtel

I live in the country so I've only ever had satellite foxtel and have had little problem with it. I agree they're selling it as better, but I think it makes sense for them as a business model to go full satellite. The cost of maintaining hundreds of kilometre's of cable compared broadcasting from a satellite must weigh in to it. I read in that article the the cable is going to be used for internet, which is a better use IMO. I have cable internet and its super fast. I think this decision is all about reducing costs to foxtel.

Telstra sold the network, NBN don't have a stake in Foxtel so they are moving to Satellite as the best choice for Foxtel

everything else is either spin or lies
Suggesting you can't use Internet to stream to a TV is false, suggesting that Satellite is all around better for their customers is false

I agree, but my point is, what else are they going to say. Foxtel is never going to admit it.

It's just the arrogance of their bullshit, I mean I shouldn't be surprised they still seem to believe the best business model is just to lie really confidently to peoples faces while overcharging for a shit product, not alone there obviously

TBH, the main drawback/difference is that you can't watch (or record) FTA channels through the Foxtel set-top box with Satellite, but you can with Cable.

I know it's cool to hate foxtel.
But I'm enjoying it.
Best sports coverage there is in Aus.
Plus I'm finding on demand stuff to watch.
Hbo shows and movies.
Torrents are a virus filled mess thesedays.

Foxtel (Murdoc) is responsible for the crappy internet (aided by the Liberals in destroying fibre speed internet so as to prevent it from competing with Murdoc's cable tv 'service') we have in Australia so I have no intention of encouraging his business models. Foxtel needs to die and the sooner the better. If that means less money for pampered entitled players and footy clubs than so be it, the game was its purest when it was mostly amateur sport anyway. Network lucre has corrupted those in charge of running the game and forgotten who the game really belongs to.
