Carlton peeps, come on, no one on here wants your advice, stay out

Edit: holy **** Carlton people, how can you think anyone here wants your input on umpires or anything to do with the game. Stay out or get pointed

I can't stand people focusing on the dissent as the thing that cost us the game and debating the legitimacy around it. It was clearly the kick before that, you know, the one that generated the dissent.
I think it's more that, at least with the replays that were shown on TV, it just looks like a bad call that was reasonable to make in the circumstances. Looking at the crowd view though, it was egregiously bad, but even still egregiously bad calls happen.

The reason people are focusing on the dissent is that, after the whole team remonstrates and with the game being in the position it was, umps should have the logic/decency to go "we probably stuffed that one up and the anger is understandable, let's let it slide and move onto the next play." Instead the umpires doubled down on their shit call and made themselves the superstars of the game.

The comp is evenly poised. Collingwood, even after losing, are still going to make top 4.
Sydney loss to Richmond.
Finals is obtainable. Has to be
We're definitely good enough to play finals.

I reckon, at most, 12/18 clubs could sustain what Carlton did and be close enough to steal it late. A good number of them drop the bundle and get smashed.

We do that for 90% of the season and we'll win at least 14.

Not sure if this has been posted or not but it came up on my feed.

Undeniable.

This is the Zapruder film equivalent - the Carlton robbery forensics.

They won't show this in the AFL media, it would cause dissent and they won't stand for that.

I really wanna know what was said that was so bad to warrant a dissent call at that stage. Whatever was said, they deserved it.

Like.. you cost us the game. Which is reasonable giving the circumstances.
If it’s dissent, do it in the middle. But the show to make it 30m out in front. **** them

And they were going at him before the kick was taken. Why not call 50m there then?
Aish remonstrated a bit.
Who knows. Umpires made themselves look like power trips. Couldn’t believe he actually did that. Then dissent goes every single time an appeal against holding the ball etc is said then

Carlton rolled the dice in the last few minutes and came up trumps.

Happy with the effort from Freo. Lacked some composure at the finish.

As much as it’s nice to have someone else to blame, I think it’s more on us than the umps.
Have to do something about that last 2.34.
10 points up, to losing by 10. Regardless of the circumstances , that means Carlton were enabled to get possession and dominate inside 50s- get open.

This is true. Killing the game should’ve been a priority…

Our mids played well, but there last 6 minutes was very dissapointing. We desperately needed a clearance and Carlton were winning them with ease.

I cannot stress this enough, Jackson was absolutely shocking today

Until you lose two of your starting small pressure forwards
Yes well... it'd be good if they were a little cleaner with their ground ball too.

I reckon Amiss is close to a big haul. Playing the close to goal role makes it tough. He's just degrees off at the moment.

It's true, but it doesn't help that the two times we actually marked it the ball goes straight back to Carlton. Really frustrating all round.

The AWFL site posted by an article by Nathan Schmook with the headline "Undisciplined Fremantle..." In an attempt to deflect the deplorable umpiring in the dying minute of the game... Gaslight 🔥

I had a look at the Carlton thread, most are w#%kers but I thought this was a balanced view.

Okay.

There's a tendancy within AFL circles to have a bit of a giggle in Fremantle's direction. Their trading foibles are fairly well known, as is the strange way they seem to leak their best players. Had they retained Neale, Lobb, Acres, Henry, Cerra, McCarthy, Hogan, Weller, their side'd look very, very different this year. They've not won a flag; they're the little brother over in Perth; they make some silly mistake when trading or drafting.

And yet, the thing that people don't seem to notice under Longmuir is that they also don't seem to be getting worse despite the players they lose. They are easily the best drilled side in the comp, bar none. They have a set gameplan that can flip from total defense to blitzkrig attack, and can put teams away in a single term. They have a thoroughly understated and effective on ball brigade, and their tall defenders are so well organised that with the midfield's support they're almost impenetrable.

They went in today knowing what they had to do to win: beat us around the ball by exploiting our lack of pace; hold Charlie and Harry as best they can; press up and guarantee repeat front fifty pressure efforts to see what turnovers they could create. They did these things, pretty consistently all match, with only a single part of it (Charlie) not working as planned. This was almost the perfect ambush.

But what needs to be understood is that today - even before the shambolic final minute of footy - we had our own plans. The game was ugly because we refused to play into their hands, dominating possession when they tried to flick the switch. See, around halfway through the third term, they suddenly began handball receiving their way through the corridor and they were beating us back to their half; that the best they could do from it was three goals is a testament to how hard we now are to score against.

Deprived of our clearance dominance, our front and midfield pressure, of one of our two pronged talls ahead of the ball, our team defense and back half made one hell of a case for being the best in the comp.

We refused them the ball in back half for the last 10 minutes of the game.

Now, the mark and dissent free. There would be easily 20+ marks a game that go touched and unnoted. That one's a bit hard in the final minutes, but that one you can wear. But the dissent free came a full minute after the mark call had been made; your blood might be up, but if you can't control your mouth after a minute you are not an adult.

Freo are cursed when it comes to us. I'm not relishing when the footy gods choose their favour to flip, but 4-0 is a strong start to the year.

Onto Adelaide at Marvel.

Carlton went in and got the ball. That’s really what it was.
Just feel that Jl or this midfield group aren’t grinders enough- as in they’d rather quick possession out and fast movement. Issue with that is late in games it’s better to try and force stoppages, slow the game down and just get it out of the zone.

MJ needs a stint at Peel. I might be wrong here but he seems disinterested at times. Versatility is unlikely to be one of his strengths so the club might have to make a decision at some point. He’s still young and Im not writing him off, I just don’t see the hunger in him. But like I said, I could be wrong

We should just save time and cut and paste the first 10th of the David Mundy thread into his. The lad is big but he still needs to fill out more and develop the maturity. I think he's three years away from being able to win it consistently. Same as Ras.

Then half back role? Feel like wing is too difficult for him. His disposal or rather his decision making was really poor today.
