Carlton peeps, come on, no one on here wants your advice, stay out

Edit: holy **** Carlton people, how can you think anyone here wants your input on umpires or anything to do with the game. Stay out or get pointed

I would not feel as pissed off if they had run us down legitimately in the last quarter and won it off us, even if we had control of the game for the most part. What really sticks in my craw is how the umpires literally gifted them a goal at the death off a call that was wrong. Then there’s the gall of the AFL to back the dissent call when it wouldn’t have happened in the first place if THEY DIDN’T * UP.

The fact it keeps happening and always with Carlton - this ******* league, man. It’s so amateur, with its biased medial bubble, uneven “fixtures” and its treatment of traditional AFL non-Vic teams as an afterthought to bring broadcasting dollars.

Sometimes, I really want to give this sport up - it’s frustrating barracking for a team that plays against a stacked deck every ******* season. Sadly, I have never followed a sport where I have felt like that before.
I know what you mean man, but hang in there. There's always blips in the road; obstacles along the way.

We're coming.

That game plan was a good fit against Carlton, but boring as bat poo.

Really?
I felt like I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. Was captivating. Possessions actually meant something.

Sure, we’d all love a free flowing high scoring exotic brand but this was far from boring. I can understand if it’s not your team involved but when it’s your team it’s far from boring.

Actually felt like finals footy in April to be honest.

Yeah 100% agree. Was absolutely riveting and the pressure was finals-like from the first bounce to the siren.

Captivating to watch, was pulling my hair out most of the game and for us to be in a match like that with a proper contender was a pleasing return to credibility for us.

As infuriating as it is the umpires made a mistake, people need to move on.

Team is looking pretty good as is the season, it's just one game.
The same situation occurred last time this happened v Carlton. Put simply, didn’t kick enough goals just like that time to put this result beyond doubt.
So many variables in the team’s control that weren’t executed.
Amiss missing his shot to be 15 points up.
Treacy dropped the mark.
Midfield not winning clutch clearances.

Shhhh. Don't you know you can't blame the umpires around here? Even though they literally decided the game against Carlton again, it is all on us for not putting away our chances.
Not arguing that that’s not the case, as I said, if we had kicked it out of reach it wouldn’t matter. But in what league does a team have to perform streets better than their opponents to be guaranteed a win. If you’re playing the best, there will always be arm wrestles and the sad thing is I have so little faith that we’ll get the rub of the green when we’re up again the usual VFL love children.

Can you imagine if this had happened to us in a grand final?

I agree with you but there were one or two posters yesterday getting a tad bit aggressive with the whole don't blame the umps schtick.

The umpiring was weird on both sides - we got some dubious ones too.
The main thing is we absolutely pantsed their midfield. If we get back a key defender (cox or McDonald) we win that game.
Let carlton have their win yesterday but their midfield is overrated and they are not going far with the team they’ve got.

Have there ever been studies regarding umpiring and bias within the AFL? Certainly seems like an area the AFL should be able to point to and confidently endorse the umpires work.

Do they have any publicly available reviews, or does the media, including non-mainstream) have any statistical based observations?

Seems a lively area for someone in social media to explore.

In 2015 I studied hard the umpiring statistics relating to Fremantle games.
The correlation between certain umpires and Fremantle games showed most probably umpiring bias against Fremantle.

The data was so strong that when Dalgleish, Stevic and Rosebury were announced as the official field umpires, for the 2015 Freo vs Hawks Prelim I was very vocal that the outcome of the game was predetermined by the AFL.

My beliefs (and I emphasise my beliefs) based on the numbers I had in front of me at the time, led to me understanding that the AFL gives preference to umpires who have biases that align with the desires of the AFL.
Furthermore, the umpiring bias against Fremantle in 2015 was not as obvious in the first half of the season. It was when Fremantle found themselves on top of the ladder winning their first 9 games of the season, that the pro-VFL agenda with the umpiring and Free Kicks against Fremantle became most obvious.

Below is what I posted prior to that 2015 PF vs Hawthorn;

I truly believe if this game was played on neutral ground with neutral umpiring, Fremantle would win.
But the desired result of this game has already been determined with the appointment of those three umpires.

In the last 2 years, Fremantle have lost 13 games. One or more of those three umpires have been involved in 12 of those losses.
The only loss where they were not involved, was the recent Port Adelaide loss where over half the Fremantle team was rested.
In contrast, for the same period there has been 20 games where none of those three umpires were involved, and Fremantle won all 20 games.

The statistics for Dalgleish show even at Subi home games, he strongly favours West Coast yet is strongly against Fremantle.

Stevic, well in the last three years (12 games) I can only find one game when Fremantle won the Free Kicks in a game with him and that was vs Adelaide (12-11). His Free Kick avgs in the last two years when Fremantle plays a VIC team is 15 Frees For vs 24 Against.

Rosebury, unfortunately in my opinion is the worst out of the three. He paid the 50m penalty against Luke McPharlin in the 2013 GF that wrongly gifted Buddy Franklin a goal (that was one of many of his poor decisions in that game). Fremantle have lost 8 of the 12 games in which he has umpired in the last 2 years.

Statistically speaking, coincidentally or not, I can not find any umpires that have been more related to recent Fremantle losses than these three.

Still shattered and the AFL and Carlton can still * off
I've long thought the AFL needs it's moment of rebel code threatening it, to reform itself. But.... the league already has money, a Kerry Packer, World Series equivalent can't happen the same way (entice players away with better salaries).

What can you do if you still live your own team other than suffer the accompanying nonsense (being polite, stronger language is in mind).

He is a Libran like me (firey and hate injustice). I feel like he is being hung by the media, our coach, probably his team mates and some of our supporters.
He’s not very old!
He is built for this mate. Bit of Jeff Farmer temperament. Every time Farmer’s back was against the wall getting it from the media he’d come out and play beautifully. He has a bit of Swagger and cockiness which will hold him in good stead. The club will be around him supporting him no doubt.

I’m really worried about Clarke’s mental health after this
Doubt it. He may feel bit regret how he maybe should have handled it, but won't lose too much sleep over it. Although, there was a chance we could kick another fin a min, chances was slim and game was pretty much done.

Also think when they review game there were other more costly errors or breakdown that cost us

HAHAHA what a pisstake from Clark lol.

"Fremantle defender Jordan Clark was penalised for dissent against Carlton after using the expression “f***ing idiot” but has told the club he was berating himself for allowing opponent Matthew Cottrell to mark.

This masthead understands Dockers players had been irate that key forward Jy Amiss had not received free kicks across the game while Carlton forwards had been rewarded in marking contests.

Clark allowed Cottrell to mark after George Hewett’s kick was sent forward, with the AFL on Sunday admitting their umpires missed the ball hitting James Aish’s forearm.

It was after that goal that Clark has told friends he uttered the expression “You f***ing idiot, Jordan”."

afl should release the audio
Should be very easy to disprove if he's claiming he said "You ****ing idiot, Jordan." If he said "You ****ing idiot" then its his word against the umpires regardless of if he was directing it at himself or not.

I'll never forget how they manipulated the audio after the North game to absolve the umps of any responsibility lol
