Review Fremantle Contest Another Game In South Australia

If Simpson handnt been so interrupted for a month I’m sure he’d be in and be perfect. Keeps getting hit in games or missing for something minor
Seems to keep happening with our early draft picks in there 1st season. Injuries and niggles at the wrong times just keep delaying there entry.

Serong, Brayshaw and Cerra are probably the 3 that played close to a full season in the debut season since probably 2010.

Might be one or two more I missed but just feels like we can't get these kids up and running straight away.

I missed the game not sure I can watch a replay now knowing the result.

Sounds like another heartbreaker everytime I looked at the score last night we seemed to be 10 points ahead.

I suppose 2 weeks in a row we have scored 63 points it's just not enough as good as our defence is.

That's the never ending problem since 2013 how do we increase our score-power and kick winnable scores more regularly.

We were trying to hang onto a lead less than a godly for over ten mins at the end. I just don't think that's sustainable no matter how well we stifle teams
I disagree that we were only trying to hold on to the lead. We just butchered the scoring opportunities we generated in Q4..

I thought we had an opportunity to win the game. Banfield really has to own those moments; kicking it out of bounds twice is not premiership standard footy.

Matt Taberner is done. With Darcy back, he should only play if a blackhole swallows the entire team.

Otherwise, I thought the team took a step forward. There's a lot more improvement required, but it is starting to click for some players.

Port have had a gifted run of it with the lack of travel, but we shall see how they go when they finally leave home.
Sum up my thoughts exactly. Although I’m not even expecting premiership footy from Banfield. Just commonsense on knowing your limitations.

Drop at the top of the square. First one hold the ball and allow Walters to lead back which he was doing - instead kicks it high over his head and out of bounds. Second one - left foot on the wrong side - pass it off or lay it up.

Johnson’s decision to check side was bemusing. These guys need to be able to use their non- dominant foot more comfortably during game.

I wouldn’t quite call it a choke because we were never that far ahead in the contest or on the scroreboard, but will teams now see us as gettable if they are within 2 or 3 goals late in the match?

That’s the second week in a row we have failed to hold on to a lead with around 5 minutes to go. We retreated too far into our shells, conceded territory and then couldn’t easily get back down the other end of the field. And again we lacked composure in the big moments.

Ironically we now have problems closing a match out, whereas before we had a problem with our first quarters.

There were lots of positives from last night so it’s not all doom and gloom. I guess we’re just struggling with in-game consistency and we’re seeing these costly periods where the game gets away from us.

Bottom 6 played like it. Ground level forwards absolute trash. The Switta miss was the moment I knew we'd lose and then Banners and Johnson absolutely sealed it.

It's fine to have 1 or maybe 2 players in the forwardline who do basically nothing except pressure, but if 3 do that and the other looks cooked and offers absolutely nothing, you've got problems.

We force the oppo to play the game we want but don't have the mid-forward connection or forward class to get the result against the best. At least not reliably.

All of our draft capital must be spent on the forwardline one way or another.

It's obviously not all bad though because we have 3 players in their "prime" (Aish, AP , Ryan) and they're all smashing it. Could easily have been 5-0 which is why I think we're all taking it so hard.

Most players obviously aren't there yet and the handful that are clearly past it aren't going to be hard to replace on current form. Seriously, we need to ask Geelong how to squeeze every drop from the 30+ guys because ours are giving us very little.

The tricky thing if you drop a couple of close ones is the tendency to treat them like wins , then you drop one you are meant to win and suddenly you are back in the shit with everyone wondering what the hell happened

Same kind of mental challenge as when you have a good year and you start making risky assumptions about how well everything is going and then get a rude wake up call at the start of the next year

I am with you. There's far too many bad decisions being made in the forward 50 or skill errors.

Banners should have run a mile away from the footy as soon as Walters picked it up. We need at least a goal each from Switta, Banners and Emmett each game.

I hammer Taberner a bit on here, but he drops far too many marks in the forward line. Up the ground he was okay because his opponent would drop off, but inside 50, he is a liability. I want him ****ing gone and not just off the team, but off the list at the end of the year. I watched him drop a sitter in the PF in 2015 which ruined a fast break opportunity. I am watching the same crap 9 years later. He's probably a nice guy, but **** me enough is enough.

When Draper has had more disposals than Hughes you know there is problem moving the ball forward.
Sonny probably needs to play more at home than away, Delean should be able to
match his 5 disposals.
Horne Francis gets moved forward, we have nothing like that polish to nail a goal.
What do JOM or Switta offer besides leadership that Brodie is a goner?
We need a match winner on all lines instead of the defensive foot soldiers.
Sure it can be fixed, players added or moved but will they?
First head coach sacked this year should be offered an assistant job.
It’s what is required to look at the playing roster and add a different view or
approach.

We have Freddy coming back in, and for me the priority now is to get Delean and Simpson up to speed and in the team.

Those boys both have goal sense

He's been my favourite Freo player for a while now but Sonny has struggled to even get near it the last couple of weeks. Perhaps he could sub? We just don't have any small forwards crumbing or kicking goals. Switta, even Freddie seem to miss too many sitters.

Yeah I’m really warming to the idea of resting Walters in away games. The only games he’s looked good in this year were at home, and I’m sure the rest will help him.

Don’t see how we lose anything bringing in one of those guys over Sonny atm. Leaning towards delean if it’s true that Simpson has glandular he might take a bit longer to recover.

It would only take one dangerous medium / small forward to transform the list and change that game.

Port’s tall forwards didn’t really get hold of us, Pearce dominated Dixon, but Dixon had some moments. One when Pearce was manning the mark 50m away, and other at a critical point in the game. Which was really Dixon’s only moment in the whole match.

Marshall who I rate was very underwhelming. Georgiades was more of a threat, but not consistent.

Dixon is 33 years old. Marshall 25 years old and Georgiades is 22 years old. They’ve got Ollie Lord in the cupboard who’s 22 years old.

I’d take Jackson 22 (key forward version, we saw glimpses last year), Treacy 21 and Amiss 20 over any 3 of the Port tall forwards.

Our guys are extremely young to be leading a forward line. Taberner at 30 took the place of Jackson up front and was largely ineffective.

We are nearly there. Just hold coarse and use the plethora of draft capital we have this year to fix our small weaknesses via draft or trade.

I’m warming to the idea of Baker as a Walters replacement who works hard up and down the ground. I’d happily spend the worst of our 1st rounders as a trade for Baker.

Brayshaw, Young, Serong are going to have awesome battles with Rozee, Butters, Drew over time. Port always name JHF as part of their trio but it was Drew that stood in the middle when the game was on the line.

We need to add a 4th top line midfielder, Erasmus / Johnson need to step up because right now they are being outperformed by 32 year old Fyfe. Pipe dream of Warner?

No risk no reward, we have seen this style of footy before, and if we are to win a flag we need to be the best team that year. Remove the luck or bounce of the
ball.

He’d be better as an impact player than O’Meara and Erasmus, but I feel he’s still dangerous and respected enough to be closely marked by the opposition. I shudder to think what kind of freewheeling opposition defences would have off half back without us having any dangerous smalls down there.

Would throw the kitchen sink at Warner.

Goal kicking mid.
Feels like we’re missing the Barlow, Fyfe, Mundy goals from our mids.

One of these guys and one of peak Ballantyne or Walters and we’re sitting top of the ladder rather than 3-2
This is where the likes of Johnson are disappointing for me. I don’t expect him to rack up touches, but he needs to be dangerous forward of centre. Seems we have too many one-dimensional midfielders who can only impact if played at clearances.

Def a choke

Switta miss
Banners x 2 misses
Johnson miss
Banners getting tackled running inside 50

No wonder we are always trying to pass off inside 50 (which often backfires) we've got no one who wants the ball in the big moments

Banfield kicking 2 back to back out on the full pings and goal in the last nearly cost me a TV...

Competitive against good teams the last 2 weeks but mannnnnnnn one of those falling our way makes a big difference to the season.
What nearly cost me the TV was the F**G umpire suddenly remembering the rule that it is the player closest to the OOTF who takes the kick. Feels like they were trying to rub Carlton in our faces again after last week.
