Jabba73
Hall of Famer
Baghdad has long been a cultural icon, steeped in history and at the forefront of innovation.
The city was founded in 762 as the capital of the Abbasid dynasty of caliphs, and for the next 500 years it was the most significant cultural centre of Arab and Islamic civilization and one of the greatest cities of the world. Situated between two rivers, it was also at the centre of the world's great trade routes and the caliph was therefore extremely wealthy.
Unfortunately many who were extremely jealous of all that Baghdad was, conspired to bring it down through raids on its wealth of knowledge and resources, a trend which sadly continues through to the present day SFA.
Fear not good people of the SFA, a new dawn has risen at Abdu and with it a renaissance of sorts. Far from wallowing in our bad fortune and the stripping of our wealth, the Baghdad Bombers have fortuitously struck it rich again ... even if it was a little lucky this time. And no, we are not talking about the influx of rookies mid season, even though they are very welcome and providing a breath of fresh air around the place.
We thank the teams that have visited the Prison for our home games this season and have partaken in the controlled destruction of their accommodation facilities, as we demolish the old stadium in preparation for a custom built replacement. Without the funds to bring this to fruition, we were casting around for ways to both save money and make more money; including being early adopters of innovative new technologies like salt batteries and sand batteries to make use of our natural resources, making string and ropes from plant materials and the abundant animal fibre on hand and mining basalt for construction.
Little did we know that all along there was untold wealth lying beneath the shifting sands just waiting to be discovered and capitalised on ... to bring us back to the glory days of old.
In recent days, a stray live round being used in a training drill went AWOL after a misfire, and landed a few hundred metres from the site of our current rookie training facility. Upon detonation, a new oil rich deposit has been discovered which should provide ample funds for the new playing facility as well as allowing a few little luxuries we have been devoid of for far too long.
The new order of business is to "drill baby, drill" until liquid gold makes real gold flow through the streets and our affluence is enough to dwarf the "new wealth" that is so condescending towards those less well off. We will soon be the most well resourced club off field to complement our dynamic leadership and engagement, providing the means to help maintain our preeminent position on the field where we hold the most premierships.
We will make the SFA grate again.
