What do we feel is our best forward 6? Not that anyone plays an actual 6 man fwd line these days - though those we put in the fwd 6 would float through there.

here's mine

Wright Tippett Johnstone (though apparently going to play defence)

Knights Walker McKernan (although I see he is not rated too highly on here)

Some may say this forward line is a bit tall - though I see Mckernan and others drifting up towards the wing to open space for danger, porps, petrenko etc to run into and use the ball well to either tippett and johnstone or whoever is deep -or taking the shot at goal themselves.

I would like to see danger and porps play mostly midfield but float towards the hfflank.

Thoughts?

P.S. I feel that walker is a better full forward than tippett - but walker can drill a goal from 50 whereas our hearts are in our mouths if tippett is kicking from any further out than the goal square.

Would like to see tippett assist in the ruck and then walker move to full forward - mckernan to just take a grab in the forward line - got less to think about then

HF Jaensch Tippet (Young Blood)
FF (Wright/Mckernan) Walker Porplyzia

I wouldn't be suprised to see a few young players rotated through the hff
to see if they have something waiting to explode onto the scene...

Disagree with that. I'd back Tippy from 35m+ more than i'd back him from 20m. Agreed that he doesn't have Walker's penetration, and as such is better at FF, but his long range kicking is a lot more reliable this his close range.

Anyway, my forward 6;

FF: Wright - Tippett - Porps
HF: *Rotation/rest spot* - Walker - Knights

With blokes like Douglas, Danger, Mackay, Callinan rotating through.

Forward line option #1:

Wright - Walker - Porplyzia

Knights - Tippett - Petrenko

Forward line option #2:

Wright - Walker - Douglas

Reilly - Tippett - Henderson

Forward line #2 assumes Porps and Knights are playing more in the guts.

I'd love to fit Hendo in AFGM.

Be interesting to see how Sando uses him.

he was often a fast-break gimmick under Neil. Play way up the field to the HBF. Used as the outlet valve, switch teh ball and then sprint all the way down the wing to receive the ball deep forward with his opponet often 20m behind him. Got predictable in fact.

At the moment, assuming he can make the side when everyone is fit, I'd probably play him off a wing similar to Burton back in the day. He can work 'baseline to baseline'.

The key issue for him will be learning to play contested footy. Because of the way neil used his key assets he was often in space. It doesn't seem like Sando wants to play that way.. so til he can prove his ability to fit into a more contested gamestyle he may struggle to capture peoples attention again.

Has potential to be an awesome flanker.

Whatever it may look like i hope it is a potent and dangerous forward line.

Tall options: Tips, Walker, Jenkins, Lynch, Johnston

Small/mid options: Knights, Wright, Petrenko, Sloane, Jaensch, Porplyzia, Dangerfield, Thompson, Johncock, McIntyre (rookie)

Will all get a run in there.

What I think our forward line has lacked in the last two seasons is that lead up, rangy forward; the medium/tall forward who leads up towards the wings and presents as a marking option when we rebound from half-back. Perrie and Burton were handy in this role and most recently Gun$ton looked good there. As good as Tips and Tex are, I think they are better served staying within the 50m arc. I'd like to see either Lynch or Johnstone tried in this possie. As long as we are not relying on Sloane to be our lead up CHF again...

Without giving it alot of thought, heres mine.

FF : Callinan - Walker - Porplyzia
CHF: Lynch - Tippett - Henderson

Have 3 smart 'footballers' close to goal.
Tex 1 on 1 will be hard to stop with Wing nut and Porp cleaning up any crumbs near goal.
Use Tippett as a hit up CHF and gorilla forward running back to goal.
Hendo can use his speed to lock the ball in and create space down the wings.
Lynch to be 3rd tall and link up player from defence and use his foot skills to hit up the leading forwards.

..and no one has named Dangerfield at FF either.

Firstly, I have no doubt that Dangerfield will spend some time deep in the forward line this year.

Secondly, I agree with bigfella that Hendo played an unusual position last year as a "very high" half forward and I doubt it will be part of Sandos structure.

Regarding my forward-line structure, I think you need to name a Forward Four and at least half a dozen players will rotate through the high half forward positions.

With reasonable form and fitness the round 1 Front Four will be

McKernan (or Jenkins), Walker, Porplyzia

Tippett

This was the same four that were used in last year's pre-season prior to Tippett copping the injury.

The high half forwards will come from Knights, Wright, Henderson, Smith, Douglas, Sloane, Petrenko and Vince (if sober)

I don't expect that Dangerfield will rotate through the high half forward position because we will want him to expend most of his energy in the midfield (he is likely to cover lots of ground at high half forward without getting near to the ball). He will be mostly rotated off the bench or deep in the forward line. You could call it full forward or forward pocket if you like to use 20th century terminology.

Tippet CHF to provide the contest ala mathew robran, Walker the obvious choice at FF, anything else is a waste of time.

Tippet is a great pack mark but if he doesnt grab it they to easily sweep the ball out of our forward line, we need our mids running onto the contest through CHF where Tippo can bring it to ground for them at the HF position

Even though it is unlikely to eventuate this is my starting forward structure

F Porplyzia Tex Johncock
HF Tambling Tippett Johnson

in brief

- Tex and Tipoett need to swap roles, Tex is a dead set FF, whilst Tippett would have a strong presence at CHF

- Even though Johnson has been mooted as a 3rd tall in defence IMO he is more of a natural forward and his kicking would be deadly around the 50m arc

- finally I would love to see the x factor and chemistry by playing Stiffy and Bling in the forward half, we desperately need some pace and unpredictability to create more chances and soft goals

Tippett.........Walker..........Porplyzia

Dangerfield....Johnstone.....Knights

I really think we missed the PORPS last year for his ability to take and hand off
the pill IF all things go well he should kick around about 40gls

I'm all for Johncock spending the rest of his career in the forward pocket. We would lose out in defence temporarily, but it would give guys like Brown, Special J, and Laird the opportunity to flourish and establish themselves.

This would be the biggest mystery for mine.
Tippett and Walker would be the only definites. Knights the other quite likely.
Will Porplyzia be fit?
Are Wright/Henderson/Callinan best 22?
Does McKernan fit in for 3 talls?
Do any of the new boys get a look in? Jenkins/Johnston/Lynch.
Do Dangerfield and Vince play midfield?
Do Jaensch and Petrenko play in the backline?
Does Douglas become a forward again?
Is it worth robbing Peter and making Johncock a forward?

I'd have:
FF: Wright Walker Porplyzia (hopefully)
HF: Knights Tippett Vince (more of a wing/forward)
