Not sure who these guys are but they seem keen on Hamilton.
Why a Northshore Olympic Stadium Trumps Victoria Park & Gabba Rebuild
With Queensland’s incoming LNP government now officially sworn in and undertaking a 100-day review of Brisbane’s Olympic stadium options, the focus has shifted back to viable urban sites following the shelving of the previous government’s QSAC proposal in Nathan.brisbanedevelopment.com
I get the train line but (although still just one line) but wouldn't we have issues with the post game crowd dispersal there?
Kedron Brook defiantly subject to flooding on a regular basis. Some chat in today's paper apparently about Mirvac being approached about building a stadium at the old Toombul Shoppingtown site. Given the flood that wiped that place out, I'm not sure it could be considered feasible.
It does suggest there's plenty being done being the scenes with private money.
Except it isn't the arse end of Sydney, it's basically in the middle of the urban area. The biggest problem with Homebush is that they didn't keep adding more public transport options beyond the shuttle from Lidcombe, which is annoying to get. That will change in the coming years with a direct metro line from Sydney CBD and Parramatta CBD, plus a light rail line.View attachment 2157565
Same things they said about Homebush. You know, that wonderful backwater ghost town at what is still the @rse end of Sydney, a quarter of a century later.
Lol , yeah let's all sell up where ever we live and buy in Nundah.Haha Real Estate is booming, must be a new stadium coming.

It mostly affected the lower car park arears. And that can occur just with a heavy storm
But that last flood had everyone pulling the pin
The Shopping Centre was built a long time ago.
With more modern techniques they should be able to do something
Still too far out of the city in my opinion to run the risk of being a white elephant.
That's also one of the reasons i did not like Hamilton Northshore (8km).
As stated, the old Toombul Shopping Town has a Railway across the road and regular bus routes
Google maps state it is about 8.5 km from the city
So the primary comment still stands; it's a stadium and a precinct which people detest going to, 25 years on from the Olympics. Replicate that here and we're complaining in a similar manner until 2060.Except it isn't the arse end of Sydney, it's basically in the middle of the urban area. The next thing they need to fix after that is nightlife, and while that's challenging, it's not impossible to do given they've built a lot of apartments nearby in the past decade.
Sure, if they make all the same mistakes and don't learn anything from it. I'd like to think that our government, for all their faults, can at least do that.So the primary comment still stands; it's a stadium and a precinct which people detest going to, 25 years on from the Olympics. I agree the site is the best option for an international standard stadium. Also, better for Lions and cricket.Victoria Park is the best option for this project by daylight. The area is so big that in addition to the stadium infrastructure you can upgrade the parklands into something that is more useable and build other infrastructure on the site including housing, shops and restaurants. It is close to public transport and the CBD. It then also frees up the Gabba site to build more housing, shops etc.
At the moment the Victoria Park site is completely underutilised and needs significant spending to transform it. Even with the money that has already been earmarked by the BCC, that won't happen unless there is a major project developed on site.
The only downside is the topography of the site so things need to be pretty carefully planned out.
I agree and disagree with what you are saying and at the end of the day it comes down to how you see the city progressing with it's requirements.Victoria Park is the best option for this project by daylight. Yep, if you want it to be a precinct with restaurants and accomodation then it needs to be either Hamilton or the Gabba.I agree and disagree with what you are saying and at the end of the day it comes down to how you see the city progressing with it's requirements.
Totally agree with Victoria Park being the best site for a stadium.
But I don't see why genuine green space has to be transformed into housing or restaurants , shops to be the only way the space is utilised for the best of the city.
I think the Bcc plan to create activity and spaces alone would bring people into the area and even if you don't go into the area to walk, bike ride, rope climb etc. it is still important for the diversity of plants and animals and the pure sanity of ourselves.
I believe if you think the last part is not important then I would say this.
With the densification of Brisbanes suburbs , not only inner city but all suburbs , that if not so much now but in 20 even 30 years this space will be so valuable for the function of a city.
Now having said that , there is still space for maybe one or two of these being a stadium or public housing or a string of restaurants or a Indoor Stadium but to have all , this bold plan to have all these builds is a slap in the face for anyone wanting only the Bcc proposal. Put it simply if we are going to get a stadium into Vic Park , that alone will be a comprimise for what is already planned.
And the need for restaurants close to the new stadium ,lets face it the MCG hasn't got restaurants close by ,you have a long walk in, and I have no problem doing this.
I think we are just spoiled with the Gabba precint, but as we all know the site of the stadium is too limited.
I would say no to a restaurant precint or any housing developements unless it's on a smaller scale for Hospital residents.
As I said ealier there are plenty of places around the City where there are 6 or 8 story residential buildings going up around the suburbs so why we have to use this space I just don't get that argument at all.
I would say something like Quirks proposal is where I sit.
Still clear as mud

However, the bolded is just not going to happen in my opinion. Maybe some restaurants attached to the stadium perimeter.
It will be hard enough to get a smooth approval process should the LNP give just a stadium build the green light.
The proposed BCC master plan will go ahead in some format or other and should be integrated into any stadium build.
Still clear as mud
Exactly. I think it's a case of build it and they will come in terms of that sort of thing. The housing and shops bit is my idea of what should happen with the site, not a view that it will happen. Cover over the train/icb and connect with the park on the other side. The footprint of a residential + shopping precinct would be small relative to the whole site and much less than the land gained by covering over the train/icb.
I guess he could be thinking that anything done at the Gabba could be a direct replacement for an existing stadium. So not necessarily a “new stadium”.I have followed Crisafulli's statements from 12 months before the election
At no time has he mentioned specifically Victoria Park to my recollection.
He has stated repeatedly "no new stadium" and more recently "wait and see after the 100-day review"
He may be taking the statement "no new stadium" and tagging it to Vic Park or any other place being obvious to everyone. Nothing has been obvious about our major Olympic venue choices, and still isn't.
However, you can also tag the statement "no new stadium" to a "Gabba rebuild"
Thats a new stadium. No other way to describe it.
The only thing that pleases me is finally someone is querying the $2.5 billion Brisbane Arene situation.
I have written to enough people and politicians for this to finally come to the discussion stage.
Love this! Thanks for the effort you've gone to here. My only comment would be that I'd anticipate any stadium built there would be much closer to a circle than the oval you seem to have presented there. The overlay there would end up being more like Kardinia Park which arguably is not what we want.Exactly. I think it's a case of build it and they will come in terms of that sort of thing.
I was playing around this morning and had a look at the Brisbane Bold location for a stadium which makes the most sense the further I look at it.
Like I've said previously, I've spent a bit of time on weekends in the park. The Purple hachured areas are the areas of the park I'd consider poorly utilised. That area on the south of the park next to Gregory Terrace (bottom of the image) is crying out for better usage - I can't recall seeing anyone ever using that area.

Next image shows the same, but with the BB site. It really leaves a lot of parkland, especially it you start to factor in any plaza areas made by covering the Inner City Bypass and rail.

Let's zoom in to the footprint for the stadium itself. This is an approximation based on the standard IAAF Olympic standard layout. The thick orange rings represent the outside of the stadium and the thinner orange ring is the inside footprint of the stands for Olympic Competition. They're mismatched to allow the width of a footy field (which here is the dimensions of the Gabba shown in light green).

As you can see, if you allow for the BB plan which seems to use ground level of 27m ASL for the plaza areas around the stadium, there's is very little removal of earth (pink hachured). This would allow the stadium to be built above the natural ground level and allow the drainage through York's Hollow waterhole underneath, as well as whatever infrastructure needed there.

Even the orientation of the proposed stadium works to let more natural light in winter.
If I get time later, I'll try and mock up the stadium in different locations.
