Howdy folks.

First off, I'd like to welcome everyone who's planning to travel to South Australia for the upcoming Gather Round. Like last year, we're putting together a hell of a celebration of all things Australian Rules Football. The mighty Woodville West Torrens Eagles are hosting Carlton, Westerns, and Geelong for some Junior Football Clinics and Captains' Runs. Their ground is down the road from me, and it's already decked out in banners. Driving through Norwood and Glenelg is much the same. Excitement is everywhere, and if you're coming over there are a number of places you can meet up with your team.

Unfortunately, after a number of regrettable incidents, I've been asked to go over some ground rules for our interstate friends. These are things that all South Australians know, but this information doesn't always cross the borders as it should.

1: Please avoid the marked area if at all possible. If you do need to enter the area, familiarise yourself with the locations of the police station. Cars left unattended will have their wheels stolen. I can recommend a visit to the maritime and railway museums, but the safest way in and out is with police escort. DO NOT ENGAGE THE LOCALS.

2: If you support Collingwood do not tell anyone you support the Magpies. You will get thumped. This isn't anything personal, it's just that when someone in South Australia says they support the Magpies they're usually referring to the Port Adelaide Football Club, and it's usually a precursor to getting mugged or having your car stolen. Thumping Magpies' supporters is an evolved instinct in SA, and unfortunate incidents can occur with vocal Collingwood supporters. Save it for the grounds, when the signage makes it clear you're NOT a Port supporter.

3: While Adelaide will be party central, make sure you get out and see the rest of the sight. If you are heading out, make sure you have a designated driver, and don't enjoy to excess. You're not going to enjoy Gather Round from the City Watch House. The Adelaide coastline is basically one long beach, take the kids for a swim of catch some fish off any of our magnificent jetties. Head up into the hills and enjoy our wineries, or experience the traditional German culture in the Hahndorf region. Head down south to Victor Harbor, Goolwa and Middleton for a surf, or for the truly adventurous head up into the Outback. The only place we can't recommend is the vacant lot between Birkenhead and the corner of Port Road / Grand Junction Road.

4: South Australia has a unique cultural identity, mostly around Fruchocs, Iced Coffee, German Bakeries and Villis pastries. Feel free to immerse yourself in our lifestyle, crack open a Coopers Pale Ale and a frog cake. We think our culture and lifestyle is the best in Australia, and we're right. Try a pie floater, see the Malls Balls, go visit the pandas.... just don't go near the swampy area at the end of Port Road.

5: And finally, the worst incident you can have here in South Australia is not enjoying yourself. Whether your team wins or loses, you're in an amazing city, surrounded by amazing people. Have fun, stay safe, and remember that we only dredge the Port River for dead bodies every second Thursday.

Now that's out the way, lets get this party cracking!
