"COULD the secret to addressing Port Adelaide's slide down the ladder be as simple as straightening up its goalkicking?

The Power have lost two of their past three matches, dropping from third to seventh on the ladder over the past month.

Their expected score from shots at goal has slumped to -48.8, meaning they've scored eight goals fewer than Champion Data would expect over the first two months of the season.

The 'expected score' measurement is based upon previous results from shots taken from the same spot on the field, the same type of shot (e.g. set shot, on the run), and the same type of opposition pressure (e.g. corralling or a physical shove)."

Geelong's shot at goal accuracy is 53.6% (fourth)

So true! I did have possum boxes made + encouraged their use with apples. They preferred my roof. So they were relocated, to a lovely bush area with a creek.

I have four inside only cats because there are four blue tonged lizards in the garden + beautiful birds. Do not want my cats hunting wildlife. They have a 12m x 5m cat garden, to enjoy the sun + they can do their David Attenborough wildlife watching through openings.

Also, about 150 plantings of trees, hedges + seasonal flowers for the insects.

No car.

I am trying to do my bit.
Peanut butter smeared on half an apple. Possums love it

Well, it seems like every week or two Scotty rests someone we wouldn't have expected. Three changes are already pretty obvious: MOC in for Duncan, Parf for the slightly injured Bruhn, and Conway for Stanley. One more unexpected rest for someone would give Hardie a spot. I realise 30 into 23 won't go, but refusing to pick blokes who are tearing it up in the VFL brings its own problems. Mostly that the unlucky player who keeps missing out can start to think he's out of favour through no fault of his own and starts looking around elsewhere.
Fair enough, I just think it's really difficult to find extra swaps when we already have two or three obvious ones on the card. People need to be managed but the squad also needs at least some form of cohesion.

It's much easier to sit there and say "why isn't Humphries or Hardie being given a chance" than to actually lay out the solution.

"Eight things we learned: These young Cats mids are rising fast

The young Cats midfield is on the rise

Prior to the season, the biggest question mark over a Geelong climb up the ladder was around its unproven midfield and Saturday night's win over Brisbane <https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/5946> continued to quell any fears about that. Up against seasoned campaigners Lachie Neale, Josh Dunkley and Hugh McCluggage, Chris Scott's men more than held their own. Alongside Patrick Dangerfield, who returned strongly after missing a couple of weeks with a hamstring problem, it was youngster Tanner Bruhn and the ever-improving Brandan Parfitt who did most of the work. Bruhn gathered 21 disposals, including seven clearances and nine tackles, while Parfitt also had seven clearances in his 17 touches. The Cats were even at the stoppages, with Mark O'Connor shadowing Neale to add a defensive element, and their speed and quick transition did the rest. – Michael Whiting

Similar player to Tanner, so bring him in

5 day break probably means no one from the vfl game plays this week.
But hardie and mannagh should both play in darwin next week.

It might happen. And if it does it is for the reason you have outlined.

But they have never managed more than two players in a week (other than a dead game). I think largely as it is the wrong mindset going into a game saying you have more than two of your best 23 resting. Maybe they can call Tanner inj (I understand he is not and is ready to play) and Stanley omitted. Then can manage Duncan and one other? But unlikely I think.

The other relevant point is that they often leave players in VFL who have done everything to knock the door down. As recently as Dempsey last year who was VFL team of the year with 12 full vfl games. Dominated. But got (sub) games earl when injures hit Cats and late in the year got left in VFL until Cats out of final contention (and this is when cats were losing often). Knevitt also shouldn’t have been dropped from AFL and never got back in (still).

Lastly in the forward line we have 6 locks plus Rohan who could become one again. And Dempsey playing wing who could move forward if a spot opened up

But I am with you I would love to see him get some reward. I just don’t know how to fit him in

I would love Knevitt and Hardie to also get a game. And Neale and humphries

Makes sense. Although again whoever they manage from afl this week will expect to play against Gold Coast. Without injuries it becomes a rotation of the 26 (23 plus emergencies). Maybe a chance for an extra surprise but very hard. Those surprises are often for debut against a poor team

No idea on pace, different ends of the ground but I do think it all depends on the noise surrounding Ports team and their outs
If a few bug boys are out I suspect J Henry will get a rest
I hadn’t thought of Jack getting a rest. That might make sense given he has strung together more footy this year than he has for a while. And he could do with a freshen up

My bet in that case is they bring back Mullin (although I would love to see humphries he might have to wait until the next North game)

After last weeks performance I’d give him a week off
Some of his contests he could hardly move, just watch the Fritsch goal again.
It’s like he was on skates

I forgot he did his combine in sunglesses

In safestyle safety glasses 🤣

If you don’t get a pair, your not a true fan
I've actually been wearing nothing at all apart from the glasses for weeks now

Crunchy or smooth?
I think they prefer crunchy but smooth is ok too

EDIT: my prescient avatar!

Conway (assuming he comes in) will play as the biggest and best tap ruck on the ground.

Our mids will get a bunch of hits straight down their throats…. could be a bit of a weird feeling for them being able to come up with stoppage plays.

A perfect opportunity for Conway to really own the ruck in an AFL game for the first time.

He may be more athletic than May and Wietering combined but May and Weitering he is not. If they can move the ball to hit Tom on the lead ..I suspect he will contribute to the scoreboard this week in a significant way.
Sav is still one of my favourites. Hope he goes well in a losing side and the Geelong crowd give him the respect he deserves for what he contributed during his time with the club.

He got gifted games when he didn’t deserve them.
Started playing him at CHB and he leaves, to be honest he can’t get stuffed
I’m pissed he left but more happy he did
Couldn’t stand him
