Very incisive. It must be remembered throughout these changes from 2019, we were in some ways, awaiting secure development of several players. In this forum at least, there were questions and criticisms over the form of Stanley, Parfitt, Atkins, Zuthrie, Blics, Menegola, Miers and unbelievably, Danger. And of course Chris Scott. A good block of posters screamed for youth, Neale, Dempsey et al. while Close and SDK were guns from the start.
To me that's fine, they called it as they saw it at the time, more in frustration than anything else.
Don't you love it when a plan - the coaches plan - comes together.
I was listening to David King SEN yesterday.
Normally I find King annoying but he made some valid comments about the courage shown by the club in some key decisions

The main ones being the brave call to trade the 3 Tim Kelly draft picks for Jeremy Cameron when there were a lot of voices demanding they be used on youth.

And the other being the decision to change a game plan that had served them so well and got them so close to ultimate glory.

As someone else said earlier you can't imitate- you got to carve your own pathway and back the decisions you make to the hilt

One thing I noticed while watching the replay on Fox this afternoon was when De Koning punched the ground in disgust after giving away a free kick which resulted in a Sydney goal. We were 12 goals up at the time.

He made amends though by slotting a goal himself 3 and a half minutes later.

I noticed similar moments throughout the year from SDK. There was a moment in the third quarter of the QF where Crisp (obviously not SDK’s opponent) sidestepped him and kicked a goal, SDK threw his head back and was visibly furious.

Great competitiveness from such a young player but I hope he’s not too hard on himself… no point getting upset about the 5% of things you get wrong when 95% of what you do is brilliant.

Guys does anyone know why Chris Scott was on the bench at the end of the QF??

Only thing I can think of is that with us running out of rotations he wanted to control who was on the field in the final minutes?

Completely agree and it's exactly why Selwood is going to play on next year despite everyone assuming he'll walk off into the sunset.

His idea of a sunset is running through the banner every week for the rest of his life. While he can still run, he's going to want to play.
Am I alone in thinking he should pull the pin?
He is a selfless individual and will do the right thing by the club. The time is right I think.

Why though? He was in the best handful of players on the last day of the year. Arguably BOG when the game was hot. He clearly still has the ability to play at the highest level. If he still has the desire, why should he walk away just because he's "old"? It's not like Cooper Stephens is bashing the door down to take his spot, and he would likely be managed next year allowing younger guys the opportunity to earn (not be gifted) a spot in the team.

Skipper goes again! He gets 5 and the hawfies can f*ck off.

King threw up a few stats over the weekend - Our mids played 24 Min less in game time than the Sydney mids leading into the GF. (which i think was key to our permiership success).

Less game time with more impact + the correct resting reigime through out the year (Every 4 weeks), means Selwood can and should play on. (Bartel was mentioning this on 3AW on the weekend).

Many other 30+'s will also benefit from a similar resting regime. The plus is also those games that the old heads are rested in means we can get games into the young lads who need senior game time. Developing more of a 28 man squad rotation will mean we are fresher for the finals, the youth will be developed at the right rate (not being thrown to the wolves or getting undeserved games) and will make our squad a lot deeper.

AFL is a war of attrition and squad management is key and something we (and the sport of AFL) are only starting to wake up to.

V true but not only that we can get 15 games into Cooper without retiring the skipper.

Games rested throughout the year: (spitballing the amount of games but u get the idea)

Skipper - 5
Tbone - 4
Norm - 4
2e - 3
Chuck - 3
Danger - 3
Blitz - 3

Thats 25 extra games that could be given to the youth. whilst keeping the old boys fresh. You'd obviously seperate the rest days and never have skip and danger rested on the same game.

+ Injuries

The math and scheduling is very simple.

I hope he goes again, if only because there isn't yet an obvious replacement for him as Captain, but it's well and truly his call. Also, even at 35yo, he would be a big, almost indispensable, part of our qust to go back-to-back, even with rests here and there and more limited game time. There is no doubt that he would still be comfortably in the best 22.

My head still hurts... and it's Tuesday! I'm too old for this 💩 but never too old to see the Cats win another 🏆

It was my first time attending a Grand Final. Such an amazing day. The atmosphere was truly epic. I savoured every moment and couldn't be more proud of everyone at the GFC.

I don't have much else to say that wouldn't have already been said. I hope Joel goes 'round one last time and he can bow out this time next year as a back-to-back premiership captain.

Anyone listen to SEN afternoon yesterday?
JJ said cryptically said “we went in with an injury” when they were hanging it on swans for Reid inclusion.
Anyone have any knowledge?
Cos I have thought maybe Cameron, based on not much lol
Actually probably Cuthrie

CG is said to be needing shoulder surgery, but clearly has been able to play with strapping etc.
"Injury" at rd 27 is pretty hard to avoid.
But what Reid had was always going to benefit us either way.

That won't change in a year- he is irreplaceable, but I think Cam Guthrie, in his own quiet, unassuming, but very effective consistent way, would be a great choice. He is highly respected by all, and started with CS

Right now he is only six weeks younger than Chris Scott was when Chris was appointed as our coach.
