Wouldn't think he'd be worth much in a trade after his last 30 games

Jack is ok hes been decent in the games where hes played his right position but hes 29 and declining on a long contract. It would be mainly them clearing salary for english (id get rid of english but they wont) and darcy and jamarra as much as anything.
Macrae is a solid citizen and would be fine for us as a leader around the kids so long as hes not picked every single week and is mainly depth.

I would like Moyle, but I would think Geelong would be wanting Conway him to be taking that no 1,
Reidy like you said be good. Also you would only have to trade a Mars bar to get him... Him just as a ruckman winning hit outs he would easily do the jobs, as his stats in the WAFL are all in the 40s, but only question mark on him ( which you may know better ) what's he like around the grounds?

Reidy is decent around the ground. Not super athletic but hes not a lumberer. Hes doing decently in the wafl and will definitely move as he isnt playing ahead of darcy and jackson for years.

Screenshot_20240608_104026_Chrome.jpg Jeepers look at the hit out stats ... a 51 , 49 hit out games.. Would be a great back up ruckman that could do a job without costing anything

I don't think that will be enough, its a pretty bad contract, it was a 5 year deal signed right after he was in the All Australian team 3 years in a row
It would be three years. Similar to Bowes I guess. One more year, better player, but declining rapidly. Bowes got pick 8 for us, Smith worth slightly less at the trade table

I wonder how much of the decline is him and how much is the strength of dogs mids? Only getting rolled out in 18% of cbas this year for the games he's played. Pushed out of his wheelhouse, or fallen out?

One thing that strikes me as a commonality between all the players people are linking us to is contract stress.

Oliver $1m a year forever and underperforming. Macrae 3 years left and hitting the wall. Smith OOC but coming off big dollars and dogs have other priorities.

Looks like we're looking for angles that preserve picks

Macrae's contract could easily be a 3 X 900k deal. We smooth it over a 4th year. Still 675k a year above 560k above base wage.

If we're talking Smith and Macrae together, do we have room for both of them in the inside midfield rotations. Depending on who gets forced out is it that much of a win. If Danger retires and we dump Parfitt, it makes more sense to sure up that area.

How does pulling out two 2nd tier mids from a middle tier team put us ahead of the group. Richmond did that to GWS. I think the opportunity cost was the a biggest loss for Richmond. Loading up short term didn't make sense for them, we're hard to read.

Takes away our ability to put big contracts in front of guys like LDU next year.

I do think that being in the position where you don't have to gift money and games to kids who aren't ready is a positive. As long as we are willing to play macrae in the 2s if he drops.

I wouldn't really be chasing him though to be honest. Not sure he's really what we need. But if it got us Smith while retaining picks and allowing us to manage the kids through instead of helicopter dropping them into a failing midfield then it could be worth it.

Yeah normally would go for him on his own but he may not be the worse trade if it gets Smith and allows the pressure to ease off the kids untill they hit their prime

We'd need to be real clear on our expectations and strong on selection integrity for it to work
Yeah it’s a risk but we don’t have much depth in the mids area and Clarke and Knivitt might still be a pre season or two away from hitting their peak.

Just depends on the length of the contract and costs I guess

We wont be preserving picks. It might be something like our r1 for smith and macrae but either way it will cost a r1.

If im the dogs id move that spud lobb and daniel and keep macrae anyway.

Even that is relatively preserving your picks
Relatively it is but my point is we are not getting a bowes type deal for smith and macrae.no chance of that.

The Bowes deal was so dissimilar to any other trade there has been that I don’t think anyone should be using that as precedent. Macrae might go on the cheap. But people can’t expect that they’ll just throw in Smith for free to take him off their hands

I can see a world where the clubs might be able to come to a mutually beneficial agreement.

But it would be harder to convince 2 seperate players that they both want to come here. Smith in particular will be in demand, as will Macrae if there’s a sweetener involved. So I’m not sure it’d be that easy to do in practice.

Bowes deal an outlier because the Suns misjudged the market and got held to it, but the concept that a player and his contract could be a net liability is not limited to Bowes.

Rarely trades like this wouldn’t be done unless they were set in stone a long time ago …I suspect they both would had agreed to it long before we caught wind of it so won’t need any convincing on the players part

So people Remember people.. This is BigFooty.... Lets not read to much about McRae being linked to Geelong as a package deal....
People believe to many things what people post on here..
