Port should have won, better list, Hawks still rebuilding, at home and key Hawk players out. Media was just hyping Hawks up prematurely .There are similarities, and at least Fagan knows it. Port and Brisbane are two clubs happy to be consistently in the mix, without actually threatening winning.
This week, though, the similarity is a different one. No one expected Port to win (I tipped Port); and the Lions were supposed to be dead at 3QT. Yet, both won.
The long and expensive contracts that we have needed to give to the likes of Conglio, Kelly, Greene and Whitfield are going to be thorns in our side. There is little left to attract in a monetary sense other experienced players that would give that extra edge that would be needed to win a flag.Zero discussion about the Giants given their season has concluded; all of their fans must still be processing things.
Couldn't get the job done last night against an experienced Finals outfit, and lost in a damning manner - out in straight sets, too.
Have they got the list to go again in 2025? Adam Kingsley comes across as an intense coach, will he be able to drive the group to greater things?
There's a lot to like about their make-up; Jesse Hogan has become the comp's best F50 marking target, Brent Daniels took a big step forward as a midfield/forward conduit, and in Briggs, Taylor and Green they have some strong foundations to build around.
Whitfield and Kelly are still classy players and they've got a few years left yet.
So what will it take to make that next step? They're not far off.

21 is the new 14Bit of a discrepancy. One celebrated with the crowd and his players. The other is hated by his own teams fans, sledged a 21 year old and turned into a aeroplane![]()
Port and Brisbane are simply in the league to make up the numbers.
The majority of their fans don't realise it though.
Four of those were due to having a retention allowance, cost of living allowance and concessions from the Fitzroy merger. For a team who has made 5 Grand Finals since the turn of the century, we must be pretty good at making up the numbers.
And the GC handouts have equated to what exactly?Four of those were due to having a retention allowance, cost of living allowance and concessions from the Fitzroy merger.
Don’t get sucked in by the trolls. And the GC handouts have equated to what exactly?
That team was 95% primarily set as the Brisbane Bears after years of turmoil and got pushed over the edge by Leigh Matthews. Cut the crap.
Yeah now the AFL are on his back, pack of dirty little pettyfoggersThe AFL and senile people disagree. But if Port want to lie in their bed, so be it
I ask that question everyday lol .But but but Port supporters are always told SANFL flags were easy to win.. why has no one told South Adelaide?
It's hard to see Gold coast or GWS ever winning a flag? I agree.Think you are confusing them for GCS and GWS.
Both Port and Brisbane have had success in the 21st century. Its hard to see GCS or GWS ever winning a flag.
21 is the new 14
It wasn't about some celebration with the crowd though, was it? It was about dismissing Port. "See you in 2 weeks"
Brisbane had their fair share of good and bad times. For a team who has made 5 Grand Finals since the turn of the century, we must be pretty good at making up the numbers.
So when will dockers win one?Interesting time to revisit this thread. Given the current circumstances I think you could make a legitimate case for all three clubs in terms of which one will win the premiership first, but if I had to pick one then I'd go with... the Giants. I'd love it to be us (Suns) though.
I'm not sure. I thought they were a decent chance this year until I saw them play their first few rounds. Now I'm not so convinced. So when will dockers win one?
