Couldn't even have a thank you Gaz game without it being against Geelong, The man does not care about the club.
 
I have to admit, I was pretty cut when Gary left and went back to Geelong but his best years had past and he wasn't as much of an influential player for them. Now, having my own little family, I can see why people want family support around when they have children - it makes a big difference (I think his sister or someone like that was also sick?). That being said, I don't think he would have left if we were playing finals.

I reckon it's Dimma inviting Gary to the club. Itd be pretty crazy for someone like Jed Walter who would have grown up watching Gary. I think enough time has past for the water to go under the bridge and I actually don't think anyone would be happier for the club than Gary if the Suns start playing finals next season. That's all he ever wanted. I wouldnt be surprised if he starts turning up to the games and I think the Suns should invite him to corporate events. A speech for him could get the 1% they need out of the players in a finals game.

I know this is off topic, but looking at the crowds this year... imagine if we were more successful like gws from the beginning. It's going to be huge here if they can get it right. Let's hope the guernsey is awesome so we start on a high.

I think it would be on the jumper or merch given it will presumably be announced early this week before the launch on Thursday/Friday?

I remember when Brad Scott first got to Essendon and he made a big deal about recognising their club history within the four walls. That included graphics of premiership teams/cups throughout the training facility and bringing in former players to conduct speeches to the current playing group. It's challenging for us if we want to do this because we have limited history and most of the history we do have isn't particularly impressive.

So what do we have in our history? We have our inaugural captain who won the Brownlow Medal while playing his 100+ games for us and is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. That's absolutely something we should celebrate and use to create a sense of pride within the club + community.

Time heals all wounds and I doubt anyone associated with the Suns still harbours ill feelings towards Gaz. This rebrand signifies a new era for our club, but I think it's still important to recognise our history and create the linkage between the old and the new.

Plus, we're getting to the point now where several players have kids that could be future father-son picks for us and getting them in now could really pay dividends later. As an example, check out this video from 2012 (5:02 time stamp) when a 9 year old Nick Daicos took part in a Collingwood father-son clinic and was interviewed by another father-son prospect. The creepy part is the kid even says 'that was a sneak peak at the Collingwood 2022 premiership team' at the end of the video and they ended up winning the 2023 premiership with some of those kids...

I agree with all of that.

As long as we don’t have to pay to recognize our history and create linkage.
