Dawson has been in the system for nearly a decade, his body would be far better at absorbing hits. Soligo is a 3rd year player that's gone full time as a mid, not surprising his body would start to get sore halfway through a season, so no better time to manage his body when 10 goals up at half time. They mentioned post game he had been pulling up slower from games the last couple of weeks.

This board used to go ballistic at not managing players throughout a season back in the mid 2010s, now we have people getting annoyed at managing a young mid in a thrashing?

There is a better time and it’s on the Monday following the previous game. We were playing a team with an average losing away margin of close enough to 10 goals. Sog could have been rested fully and spent the week on rehab instead of preparation. Obviously it’s then an opportunity to debut an in-form kid, but if that appetite doesn’t exist, Ned could have gone around again as sub, with Berry and Schoey sharing the vacant midfield minutes.

I saw your good post yesterday:
Yes - great to get a win against West coast witches hats who seem to get allergic to football when they get on a plane, but I want to see us now back up and beat Hawks away next week.

This is all too familiar for us Crows fans, get a soft win like that to wall paper over cracks and lots of back patting.

All too often when the heats been on in big pressure games we have caved in.
and agree with all of the above, but the last bit kinda nagged at me:
I want to be positive but Crows always let us down.
I'm extremely disappointed by the last 4-and-a-bit years. I hate the many losses, especially the close losses, losses to teams we should have beaten and Nicks' favoritism towards senior players.
As cynical as I've become, "always" is just a bit harsh.
The 2-point win over Carlton, loved it. They clobbered the Power; smashed WCE, both of which I enjoyed.

How about "often"?

Fair points - I guess the over-arching point I was trying to make is that those wins you mentioned always get our hopes up and we start to get a tiny bit excited about our prospects to only then be disappointing and bottle it in the pressure games.

You're right, 'always' a bit harsh but has happened all too often in recent years for my liking...

I don't understand the people who can only manage to post negative things in the game thread for a game like that.

They would have been annoyed if we lost. They were annoyed when we won by 99.

Why bother even watching? Do something better with your Sunday afternoon.
Some of us clearly have higher expectations from life..

And that extends to our choice of footy team..

We only want to see 99 point wins over witches hats if we are also seeing wins in close games against the comps best teams..

Im not sure how this is type of attitude is viewed in a negative light…

Some of us think that winning a flag once or twice in every 10 to 15 years is the only really acceptable KPI..

That isn't the point of my post though, is it.

Why spend your Sunday afternoon watching a game of football that will make you miserable regardless of the outcome? If there is nothing positive the game could have done for you, then why bother?

It very much could be. The rumours were that his off field hadn't been great.
Maybe the injury made him re-evaluate. Maybe the injury made him see what not playing elite footy looked like and he realised he needed to make his career count.
One can hope the lesson learnt is a lesson retained.

Who said it made me miserable?.. thats you simply assuming that others are feeling miserable..

I still enjoyed it.. just that I dont view it as any real step towards the next flag… so its a pretty hollow win.

7 years without a finals berth.. 7 fxxkn years.. and, given the coach and selection committee’s bewildering team selections and favouritism for battlers over talent that has continued unabated for most of that 7 years… its hard not to see it turning into 8, 9 or even 10 years.

They simply refuse to change.

But hey… “Yay.. we beat some witches hats by 99 points last night!!l” every body dust of the pompoms…

Then my comment was directed at you - so why are you bothering to respond to it like it was?

Good: harley will be there best player in the comp within a few years if he gets some decent team mates.

Bad: he has that fend off in the neck free pass that dusty has and the umpires never call it.
I don't think anyone will be better than rankine in a couple of years. He can do what no one else can.

I would have much rather subbed off Dawson if we’re talking about a key player getting a rest

Soligo has a copped a couple of hits in the last few weeks. So suspect he is playing sore so rested him. Dawson big body and has a bye coming soon anyway

I hardly watched the game and still think beating up on witches hats with changes the coach should have implemented weeks ago a hollow win. Is that ok?

Yet they’re both top 25 AFL wide for tackles. And contested possessions. And disposals.

I know it’s cool and sexy to bag them and I’d still move Laird to half back but it could be worse. Really.

And maybe being old heads - and us leading by 10 goals early - they took it a bit easier because we had general control of the game

That's a pretty interesting way to describe him. Feels like he has a lot of near misses but seems to make it out. Not as smoothly as Milera who does the impossible but the same sort of style. Does occasionally get run down from behind but he's new & raw so no doubt will get better at all this.
Indications are he will be more damaging that Milera . Nank is destined to be a fan fav

The lad shouldve been thrown into the middle for the entire last quarter of last nights game..

Reckon he’s got “big bodied midfield gun” written all over him.

Two way runner, has great skills, makes classy decisions, has speed and elite composure in heavy traffic.

And just hunts the footy..

But nicksy has no foresight.. stubbornly loves pidgeonholing players, especially young players, into set positions..
