Amidst all the noise about the one that has 800 run outs to his credit, people have forgotten that Rudi Koertzen has also retired after standing in 108 matches.

He was a good umpire most times and generally a very consistent one as well.

As good personality as one can get in these antiseptic times.

He was a crap umpire. He made numerous shockers, was one of the worst "elite" umpires. Good riddance.

Rudi was one of the favourite umpires amoungst the players around the world. It just shows the respect the guy had amoungst those whos opinion really counts.

This is turning into a bit of a nightmare now though. Another good umpire goes and again no one suitable is able to replace him. ICC really built themselves a bit of a hole with current umpire developments.

Some of these comments remind me of this song.
His umpiring has been nothing short of disgraceful for a long time.

Hard to take any umpire seriously that engages is stupid 'trademarks' whether it's the slow finger of death or the crocked finger.

Umpires are not part of the show or the entertainment, some people are yet to realise that.

Not sad that his retired, unfortunately, like Bucknor, eventually the black mark count gets to high and you just want them to retire and be done with it.

great umpire who has just gone past it in the last 18 - 24 months.

Take Aim: what a stupid comment. His "trademark" is the way he umpires, he doesn't put it on. The television/media has made it that way. His slow death has been there probably since his first days as an umpire. Darryl Harper goes round arm, Billy goes crooked finger, Bucknor took a while to give him out. It's the way he umpires.

His trademark is silly and self-indulgent. As is Billy's idiotic trademarks.

I prefer umpires to just sit in the background and not be noticed. In that regard, I like an umpire to just put his finger up normally if he gives a batsmen out. I remember during the 2005 Ashes, when Warne was bowling and half chances were happening almost every over, Rudi kept persing his lips as if he was part of the action and he was saying "oh that was close".

I just don't like it when umpires start to think their part of the show, even more so when they make poor decisions. Rudi was part of the farce in the 2007 WC final. He made numerous umpiring errors that were inexplicable in his final years as an umpires.
